I'm after some reliable ( ;) ) information on the days of the week.
I'm after any old lore, folk tales, myths, days-of-the-week rhymes, correspondances - whatever you've got :)

Thanks in advance xx

Here are the days of the week correspondences from Buckland's Big Blue Book of Witchcraft (or whatever the heck it's called). I happen to know them off the top of my head because we had a pop quiz in coven last week on them. :)

(Sorry about the formatting - I don't think it's possible to do tables in here)

Day ------- Planet ----- Color ----- Metal

Monday ----- Moon -------- Silver ------- Silver
Tuesday ----- Mars --------- Red -------- Iron
Wednesday - Mercury --- Yellow ---- Mercury
Thursday ---- Jupiter ----- Purple ----- Tin
Friday -------- Venus ------ Gray, Pink -- Copper

*pulls out information from Book of Shadows*

Monday = Monandaeg (Moon)
Tuesday = Tiwesdaeg (? maybe Tyr or Twi who is the Norse god of war)
Wednesday = Wodensdaeg (Odin)
Thursday = Thursdaeg (Thor)
Friday = Frigedaeg (Frigga) (I've also seen Frejyasdaeg which corresponds to Freya)
Saturday = Saterndaeg (Saturn)
Sunday = Sunnandaeg (Sun)

I also have this:

I did some more research and found:

Sunday:

Meaning: The Sun's day
Order in Week: Sunday was traditionally viewed as the first day of the week by the ancient Hebrews and a day of rest and worship.
Folklore: Sunday was believed to be a lucky day for babies born.

Monday:

Meaning: The Moon's day
Order in Week: Monday was traditionally viewed as the second day of the week.
Folklore: It was believed by ancients that there were three Mondays during the year that were considered to be unlucky: first Monday in April, second in August and last in December.

Tuesday:

Meaning: Tiw's day; the Old Norse's equivalent to planet and god of Mars
Order in Week: traditionally viewed as the third day of the week
Folklore: Mars was the Roman god of war.

Wednesday:

Meaning: Woden's day: the Old Norse's equivalent to Mercury
Order in Week: Wednesday was traditionally viewed as the fourth day of the week.
Folklore: Mercury was the messenger to the gods and the Roman god of commerce, travel, and science.

Thursday:

Meaning: Thor's day: Old Norse's equivalent to Jupiter
Order in Week: Thursday was traditionally viewed as the fifth day of the week.
Folklore: In the Roman calendar, the fifth day was called in Latin dies Jovis, meaning "Jove's day," for Jove, or Jupiter, the god of thunder and rain.

Friday:

Meaning: Frigg's/ Frica's day: Old Norse's equivalent to Venus
Order in Week: Friday was traditionally viewed as the sixth day of the week.
Folklore: Friday was held sacred to Venus, the goddess of love, by the Romans.

Saturday:

Meaning: Saturn's day
Order in Week: Saturday was traditionally viewed as the seventh day of the week.
Folklore: Saturday was named in honor of the Roman god, Saturn. The Hebrews called Saturday the "Sabbath", meaning, day of rest. The Bible identifies Saturday as the last day of the week.

Well,

Monday in swedish måndag which translates to moon day, so it is the day of the moon, and as we see it in Sweden, it is the first day of the week.
Tuesday, in swedish tisdag which comes from the God Tyr and this was his day, Tyrs day.
Wednesday in swedish onsdag, Odins day
Thursday in swedish torsdag, Tors (Thors) day
Friday, in swedish Fredag and this is either Frejas day or Freys day depending on which source you go to...
Saturday, in swedish lördag and has nothing to do with saturn, but the name comes from the old word "löga" which means to bathe, and this was the day that everyone should bathe, at least that is what I've heard.
Sunday, in swedish söndag and that is the suns day.

Monday is ruled by the moon and therefor it is appropriate to practice magick that involves emotions, family, home and hearth, pregnancy and giving birth, healing, gardening, dreams, agriculture, memories, spiritual growth, travel etc. The colour is white and and monday is a good day to practise visualisation. Plants for monday includes poppy and roses (preferably white), willow is the tree of the day.

Tuesday is ruled by Tyr and also by Ares. Mars is the planet that rules this day and the energy is masculine (mondays energy is feminine). Magickal workings for this day would include goals, conflicts, wars, enemies, physical strength, self confidence, hunting, sports, competitions, politics, protection, banishing negativity. The colour is red. Plants include aloe, patchouli.

Wednesday is Odens day aswell as Hermes and the ruling planet is Mercury. Wednesdays magick includes communication, intellect, the written word and the spoken word, poetry, divination, magic, fear, understanding, studies, learning, teaching, understanding, guilt and loss and travel. The colour is purple. And wednesdays are exellent for divanation (particulary runes). Plants and herbs includes lavender, peas, frankincense, cinnamon.

Thursdag is Tors day and is also associated with Zeus. The ruling planet is Jupiter. Magickal working includes gain, profits, wealth, pay checks , prosperity, success, results, gambling, religion, spirituality, trading, work, promises and making deals, honour, legal matters, wishes, weddings etc. The colour is blue. Its plants includes aloe and pine.

Friday is Frejas day and is also associated with Aphrodite. Venus is the ruling planet and magickal workings include beuty, love, sexuality, sensuality, pleasure, harmony, fertility, family, money, friendship, nature, growth, luxery, music and art. The colour is green. Its plants includes apple, musk, saffron, verbena, myrrh.

Saturday is Saturns day and the ruling planet is of course Saturn. Magickal workings includes property, grains, developments, construction, meditation, reflection, responsiblities, duty, projects (long term projects), life, reincarnation, karma, wisdom, mysteries,, growth, death, protection etc. The energies of Saturn helps one tear down walls that might be blocking your way and preventing you from development and personal growth. The colour is black. Plants for this day includes black poppy, myrrh, pensies and the tree is oak.

Sunday is the suns day and its magick includes beuty, hope, success, healing, nurture, health, happiness and joy, friendship, creativity, cooperating, money, winning, protection... and sundays colour is yellow. The plants for this day are orange, clover, frankincense, musk, myrrh and the tree is bay.

The Old Welsh Calendar might interest you then...
there are five seasons on the wheel of time
each season is two months long
the first month is each season is for the Spirits of Light (children of Dôn that live in annwn) - and the Great Mother (Keeper of Light) (Dôn)
the second is for the Spirits of Darkness (children of Llyfr) and Keeper of Darkness (Llyfr)

each month is four weeks long

from http://www.draeconin.com/welsh/articles/calendric.htm ...
No. Welsh No. Dates (Gregorian) Welsh Name English Translation
01. Un Dec. 22 - Jan. 27 Cangen Dechreuad Beginning Branch
02. Dau Jan. 27 - Mar. 04 Cangen Duwyau Divine Egg Branch
03. Tri Mar. 04 - April 09 Cangen Trydydd Third (Day) Branch
04. Pedwar April 09 - May 15 Cangen Glasu Greening Branch
05. Pump May 15 - June 20 Cangen Pump Petal Five Petaled Branch

09. Naw Oct. 06 - Nov. 11 Cangen Nawfedrhod Nine (Noon) Wheel Branch
10. Deg Nov. 11 - Dec. 17 Cangen Cigfran Raven Branch

each week is nine days long
each day starts at sunset

each day is for a child of Dôn or Llyfr - depending on whether we are in the first month or last month of a season
the names of the days are the numbers one to nine in Welsh: (english pronounciation) ein, dai, trrri, bedwar, pimp, whoewch, seith, wyth, now.

usually on pimp Dôn and Llyfr are both honoured

there is an 11th month at the end of the year, consisting of 5 or 6 days to make 365 or 366 days per year, depending on whether it is a leap year or not. Leap years occur every fouth year, now in alignment with the gregorian calendar used popularly today.

This is also similar to the 9 day Irish week, I believe... but Moorag or others might want to correct me :P

Anyhow you can manipulate this concept into something to your tastes.

bless

You should check out the book "The Pagan Book of Days" by Nigel Pennick. It's a guide to festivals, traditions and sacred days of the year. It's built up like a calander, with an explanation to each day of the year and what folklore, pagan beliefs/history rtc is connected to that day of the year. It also talks of weekdays etc. Think you might be able to use it. You can get it at amazon.com for $ 10.36
