I'm pretty new to spellworking, but one spell requires that I use parchment. I have no idea where to get parchment, but I found a thing on how to make parchment paper, minus the hide of an animal. Can that work just as well?

I get my parchment paper from a stationary store and a few new age/mystical stores. Even Kmart (or the american equivelant) has it.
Try them.
And i don't think it matters either way what you use. The energy and intent come from YOU not the paper you write on. :)

You could easily just substitute it with plain paper. If you desire that old time look you can dye it in tea

Why ask permission to use parchment paper? Use whatever floats your boat. Join the po' folks (i.e., me for example) and write it in the air. It's free, easy, and happy. :)

An alternative to parchment paper if you're rather fond of detailing your workings with a lot of correspondences is construction paper. Honestly, I tell this to people a lot and they act so surprised, as if it never occured to them. Really, it's colored paper people, and it comes in so many shades (from icky grey-browns to maroon and sky blue). You can do a constrating color theme too. For example, if you want to create a vitality charm, use a light construction paper with dark red (Dragon's Blood ink works best, but plain red ink will work just fine) ink.
