View Full Version : a fall

my grampa fell down and hit his head today
they rushed him to emergency and he's been in there all day; they not having a room to put him in at the hospital (as usual)
he dislocated his shoulder and broke his upper arm clean in two
they think he might have had a stroke, but he can talk still so they aren't sure as he shows no signs of side-weakness
they did a cat scan and found something in his head
so tomorrow he might get an emergency mri or something
all my family went there today; except my mum's oldest brother who couldn't be bothered (even though he was the one phoning and telling people what had happened and even though he was in the same house when it happened to and everyone else lives far far away)
this is sort of a rant and sort of a asking for healing thoughts or luck to be sent his way (saskatoon)
anyways
thats all

thank you very much all
he is in high spirits
they don't know whether the mass they found in his head is just a blot clot from the stroke (if there was a stroke) which would mean surgery to prevent an aneurism or if it is a tumor which would need surgery to biopsy/remove it anyways
they say he could be home from the hospital today or in a month (bright guys, these doctors)
he's been joking with the nurses and family and stuff (he likes to pretend he doesn't know people sometimes .. like his wife :D)
i don't know if he's had the surgery on his arm to set the bone or if they are putting it off until his mri
thanks for all your support and thoughts and best wishes and energy sent his way

he had he mri today and is still in good spirits though no results til tomorrow. it is either a tumour or a bloot clot in the brain, not exactly the best choices.
however, even with his broken arm and such, he is most concerned about his tongue which he bit ... apparently it stings

thank you guys. he is doing much better now. and has been transferred back to the small hospital. they changed his diagnosis to two mini-strokes which caused a seizure which made him fall out of bed where he broke everything. so he's got physio-therapy and seizure management and a stay in the hospital of about a week then he's all good again (for the moment)
so thanks for all your thoughts and energy.

I didn't post before, but I've been including your Grandpa in my evening rituals. I'm glad that this is turning out to perhaps be less serious than first thought. Keep us updated?

Sounds like he had a couple TIA's- (trans-ischemiec attacks [I think it may be spelled wrong]) anyway, they are mini strokes and almost always the person heals with no physical problems. The seizure may give him a little grief, but he sounds like a real trouper! I work in a nursing home, so I've seen the TIA's quite a bit. Happy healthy , and speedy healing to him!
