I have found various techniques to work. Different folks prefer different ones, so what is your favorite and why? :collapse:

Merry Meet
Firstly I wash them in running water from the tap. To remove any sticky finger prints from my kids.
Then I roll them in salt whilst saying a brief incantation. Naming the stone and it's purpose and that I want it to be cleansed.
Then I leave them in the sunlight and the full moon to charge them to give them back their powers! Also saying to charge them and say what they do!

***But remember some stones like Citrine will fade in sunlight and some will fall appart in salt. :(
So beware of this if you choose these methods
Blessed Be

Ok that was an odd vote...lmao....I had to choose all of them! I have several other methods as well...all involving the elements or physical energies.

I also had to mark several methods. I mainly use smoke and a candle flame to cleanse them but I have used water and breath as well as the full moon.

For my recent Altar Blessing Ritual I used grounding, water, smoke fire and the full moon. Wanted to be sure that the stones I used for my alter were very clean and well grounded so I can use them as a focal point for other activities.

Sea salt, moon/sun and sage smudging work for me. I've always used these for cleansing ANYTHING. I recently couldn't find my candle snuffer that I use for mundane candle burnings (really, IS there such a thing? LOL), so I had to dig out my ritual one, which I hated doing! But I hated "blowing" the candles out even more!

So, now that I've found my mundane one, I need to cleanse my rit one...and I plan to use full moonlight. I can charge and cleanse at the same time that way.

Stones, I have used smudge and sea salt, and I'd probably use full moonlight to cleanse AND charge if I had purposes for the stones.

I use running water or burying because ultimately both are grounding, and I want the previous owners energy to be grounded, and the stone to reconnect to the source (earth). Not sure what to do with a meteorite! I guess I will hang it out under the stars!

cheddar (who will use salt in a pinch!)

other: nothing, I dont like cleansing my crystals. If they resonate with me to begin with, then I dont buy them!! If I lose my connection with them, I just sit with it in my hands for a while and tune into it

Washing with the salt and then leaving them under the moon for a night and under the sun for a day. Then I recharge them to myself and dedicate as they are used.

I just started working with stones--well...I don't know if you'd call it WORKING with, but sort of letting them work on me...

anyway, I buried them in some sea salt in my cauldron & left them out in the sun when I got home from the store. That seemed to clear them of other ppl's energy.

I like to rinse mine with water, then smudge them with sage & lavender. Then I charge them before use for whatever particular purpose.

I tend to cleanse them according to their elemental properties. Bury for earth, water in a cup w/salt for water, smudge for air and under the sun for fire.

What an excellent idea, Frigga! I had never thought about it that way. *makes notes*

Ok here is the thing with cleansing and enpowering stones that you must think about before you go putting stones into stuff that might upset them. Some stones are pourus and some are desolvable so don't go putting them in water and some scratch so you don't want to put salt or earth on them . Here is a link to my old thread on the use and care of crystals

this may sound really stupid but I don't like to clear my stones. I feel that they carry my vibes if you will, and I don't want to take that away. I carry many of them with me next to my body during the day and feel that this helps when using them in spell work.I feel almost like they are filled with my intention and will. However, I did set them out in the sun the other day just because everyone says that you have to, but I'm not happy that I did it. Is this ridiculous???

Just visualizing the stone clean can be a powerful cleanser, too.

<bows deeply> i like to bury them in the earth and ask the earth to take all energies that aren't needed and to bring her healing energies to charge the stones.
most stones i use are from the earth anyway, its kinda like returning them home after a hard day at the office. ;)

ive learned that the stones we choose are calling us or drawing us to them for a specific purpose, to be used with a particular intent. and some are known to disappear once the work has been carried out.<spooky>they also do resonate with us and can posibly tune themselves to our thoughts, often appearing in dreams. they do hold negative energies from ourselves and our environment so it is good practice to cleanse them. some stones can be faded by the sun, and these tend to lose their lustre. you could be picking this up from your srystals

That makes sense..thank you for pointing that out. I need to study this subject more, I tend to go too much by my feelings.

I mostly use salt then wash them in spring water but of late i havent really cleansed any of my stones they havent felt they needed it. things like citrine and onyx dont need to be cleansed at all and selenite will disolve in water so i just tend to leave them on the window ledge at night if i feel their energy needs re-charging or their energy feels abit funky. since buying my selenite though none of them feel like they need any sort of cleansing.. some also seemed to have gone walkabout i guess thye will come back when they are good and ready.. Blessed be ~Morrigan~

For cleansing, I tend to go with the burying in sea salt or the earth. I just find that works well for me personally. Plus, I figured since crystals are from the erath and all, that might be a good way to do it.

Charging, I go with under the moon/sun, depending on what energies I want. I also usually just charge it with the vibrations I want/need it to have.

Although if I am consecrating them I tend to go with the incense.

Cleansing - saltwater, laying out in the sun or moonlight, mostly. Sometimes I use sage, or cleanse them in running water like a river or the ocean.

Charging - I use me :)

I cleanse in running water- a stream, NOT the tap! And by placing them one night in the ligt of the moon and one day in the light of the sun.

I use all these techniques as the weather and resources permit. I really prefer cleansing them in the ocean, but living in the midwest kind of makes this tricky. I usually load up my suitcase with my precious stones whenever I travel near the ocean. Then take a nice evening stroll and lay them in the water for a while. I have a kids sand seive I use for this.

i made up my own cleansing water that works really well when i cant smudge. I take a bowl of water and i add a few pinches of sea salt, 1 cup steeped basil and sage water, and a few drops of frankinscence oil. It works awesome. I then set them out to dry in the sun.

for a really deep cleanse i place on the earth over night. other wise in the rain, or rince in rain water. using visualisation and energy. and a bathe in ocean water.
for charging, i also bathe them in full moon light over night, or briefly in sunlight, especially those prone to fade im careful with. i also charge with each of the elements when left outside to ground and breathe the elements they come in contact with. also in ritual format, and with charged energy build up. including focusing on their individual qualities.
just depends on the time and situation.
