Okay, as I'm having difficulty finding green and red pillar candles (I have the long thin variety, but I wanted something a little different for my altar) I was considering silver, gold or white candles, as these I have found plentiful in shops in my area.

Do Gold and Silver accurately bring to mind Yule? It's probably a weird question, but for the longest time, in association with the more commercialized Christmas, I think of Red, Green and Gold as the colours for Christmas.

Well, you could always wait until Christmastime; I'm sure there'd be a lot more of a selection of green and red candles around that time of year :)

I think Gold and Silver are a great idea, though. I would see the silver as the darkness of the waning part of the year, and gold as the light of the sun as the days begin to grow longer! Just a thought ;)

Thanks. Being in Oz, it makes it that tad harder shopping for things, that to the average american, would seem out of kilter. Once again the sabbat has snuck up on me unawares.

Tradtionally it is red, gold, green, and sometimes white and yellow. If color matters that much to you, go with the taper variety that you already have, but if the pillar candles are more of an important factor, go with them. Just pick whichever is most important to your celebration and you'll be fine. You could go with white and paint or draw with a green and red markers on them, just make sure the paint or marker is non-toxic cause you do not want to burn down to the paint or marker and have that chemicals be released in the burning process.

I'm not at all familiar with what plants you have present in Australia, but we have both an oak and a hollly tree right in our front yard, so if you can obtain clippings of those they are traditional Yule representations. I prefer holly myself, it's just so festive. It's an alternative to candles, since I believe I read in another thread that you were very limited in terms of altar setup and had to get rid of candles.

Thanks. Being in Oz we don't have Holly or other more Christmassy trees around ...

As for the candles, I do all of my rituals at night anyway, so nobody's gunna know if I'm burning candles or not.

Thanks for the help guys.
