Well, I know this is probably a rather unusual question at this forum, but does anyone here know anything about Bonsai?
I got a tree for my birthday, and I think it some sort of ficus, but I don't know, and I could use some tips and ideas before I start working with it. =)

You can keep bosai trees as small as you want. Just snip snip the roots:-D

A ficus is a common plant for indoor bonsai, the most important thing is that it's watered completely. The best way to do that is to fill the sink or a pan and immerse the pot, taking it out when the bubbles stop coming up out of the dirt. Good light is also important. There are a lot of books on bonsai around, both in stores and in the libraries. Generally, once a year the plant is removed from the pot, about a third of the roots snipped away and then put back, with fresh soil filling in the spaces. The leaves can be snipped anytime, if you make a cut you don't like, don't panic--the plant will regrow!! :)

My boyfriend bought me one from a flowershop... that's where you get them in sweden, however, one can make ones own from a small tree or so, but I've been told that its rather difficult. It's better to buy a bonsai, or a potensai (which I think is the correct term for my tree, I think it means, a tree which is to become a bonsai, one that has not fully been shaped yet...). Now bonsai trees can be rather expensive, therefor check out some books on the library before you buy one to make sure that you get the best one for you, that is the tree most suitable to what you can offer in terms of environment etc. :)
Anyways if any of you guys here are good at identifying flowers and plants, take a trip to my homepage (which unfortuntatly is in swedish) and go to "Bonsai", and then click on "bilder på min bonsai"... there are some thumbnails there of my plant as it looked when I got it. :) And perhaps someone knows what kind of tree it is. :D

I hope that shall work, although I am not sure (I am having rather big problems with my homepage right now, don't know why...
