I wasnt' sure where to post this, so I figured "Just Talk" was as good as any.
This morning I woke up with my right eyelid so puffy I couldn't open my eye. I can't figure out what it could be, and my eye isn't weepy or anything, so far as I can tell. I'm heading off to the DR's in a few minutes, but has anyone got any ideas what it could be? or any herbal/home/natural remidies for swelling around one's eye? I didn't get hit, I don't think a bug bit me, and I don't think I bumped into anything. It doesn't hurt, it's just uncomfortable. And my depth perception is all off.
I was klutzy before. This makes me unnaturally ditsy! help!

Best bet might be just to wait what the doc says then. :( Herbal remedies will have more of an effect if you know zactly what the problem is, anyway.
Hope you feel better, btw!! :)

It may be a Sty.

Do you have any allergies to animals? Been near one lately?
Years ago, a boyfriend stayed at my home for the first time and woke up next morning with just one puffy eye, and that turned out to be an allergy to my cat.
(hehe, just read what I wrote - he still had his other eye, but it wasn't puffy! 8O )

Pinkeye, Conjunctivitis, Isn't always oozy. It's an inflammation of the lining of the lids. It's usually caused by an irritant, getting under there, or by rubbing your eyes, which lends the chance for bacteria to get in there. It could also be a Sty however, or..you could have been bitten by something in your sleep. There is also the chance that during your sleep, you went to rub it, and scratched it. Or..it could also be a clogged tear duct. The first thing that I would reccomend, is that you put warm compresses on it. If it is some sort of clog, or infection, it should help to draw out that which is causing the swelling (even a stye). Get a washcloth as warm as you can POSSIBLY stand it, and place it on your eye. You can also use hot tea bags. This is an odd cure, that seems to work for me. Uva Ursi Tea bags, which you can get at a healthfood store.
If the warm compresses do NOT work, go to your nearest health food store, or GNC, what have you, and get yourself a small bottle of Colloidial Silver Drops. A naturopath friend of mine reccomended it for MY pink eye, and it cured it, it also cured my Cats eye, after he got into a bad fight, and it got infected.
If NONE of that works, Then you should visit a doctor, or the ER. I would say, that if the swelling does not go down by tomorrow, you should go to the ER. They will probably give you some sort of cortizone, either by injection, or in pill form, or eyedrop form. Since that is often used to treat inflammations.
If NO mucus appears after warm compresses (do this for the rest of today, until bed time)..you COULD try cold compresses.just to bring down the swelling, but I don't know how well that would work. Eye Bright, and Cucumber, are also very well known remedies for Eye problems.

You may also have come into contact with Nettle. I react that way to nettle. BTW..until you know for sure what it is, Change your pillow cases every day, do not use the same towels or washcloths as anyone else in your family, and Make sure you wash your hands and face OFTEN...if it is contagious, as in pink eye..you will transfer the infection from one eye to another, if you rub them...and can transfer it to your family, if it's the bacterial form. But in general..the cleaner you keep it..the sooner it will heal. Oh..one more thing...If it Is a STYE...try washing your eye with Johnson and Johnson, No tears, baby shampoo. My friends eye doctor told her to do that for her eye.

I had the same problem when I was younger and still get it sometimes when I'm stressed. What I had was basically hives under the skin and is called Angioedema. http://health.yahoo.com/health/diseases_and_conditions/disease_feed_data/angioedema/

And you're lucky, the first time I had it, by the time I could visit the doctor it was so bad both my eyes were swollen shut and I had various other swellings on my face.

well, I saw the dr. She said it's not pinkeye or anything, she said she thinks I probably got a bug bite on my eyelid and it was sensitive, she said it looked like an allergic reaction from a bite. So now I'm benadryled down and the eyelid isn't so puffy. My eye itself isn't red, but the eyelid is. I'm ugly like this! :(
at least it's not an infection. :)
