Thats wonderful!!! *hugs* congradulations for the both of you :) the best thing I got when I graduated before running off to college was some award for musical excelence from the US marine band :-P I was the steroetypical band geek in high shcool. Come to think of it.. I still and and loving every minute of it :)

But I must say nothing feels better than when all your hard work and effort pays off :) Wonderful and congradulations again!!! For the both of you :) What exactly was the portfolio project he was working on by the way if you dont mind me asking. The only time I really have heard that term used was with my art major friends :)

In english, all 8th graders had to write stories ,poems, essays etc... and had to keep them all year which is a HUGE task for him (he is ADHD) then write about themselves and explain why they chose their best writing piece but not submit it for grading. The kids were graded on their explanation not their best piece. He had to do it all in school (so he stayed late twice a week all year to work on it). He is a terrific writer and could very well get published if he follows it. On top of all of this, he had to do orginal artwork for the cover describing himself as a growing writer(part of his grade) He drew a pencil with branches (like a tree) to represent his growing writing ability. If anyone in school failed this project they would fail 8th grade!

That's great..congratulations to you and your son. It takes a lot of effort on the part of parent and child to get results like that.
