Nobody told me that. I've nursed 4 while eating plenty of chocolate. Chocolate milk every night after the kids go to bed, and random entire bags of chocolate once or twice a month. I can't eat just one.

A chocolate a day keeps the grumpies away!

HorseCrow

There is nothing wrong with eating chocolates while you breastfeed. The ones to look out for are the filled ones- some babies will get a tummy ache if you eat those while breastfeeding, but not all babies, by far. The only way to find out is to try it a couple of times and see what happens.

That whole list of stuff that people say you are not allowed to eat is bull. You try it out and then you find out. Most babies do not mind at all, some do.

So don't listen to all those well meaning people telling you what to do and don't.

I dont know what you read but nipple stimulation is harmless and can help!

Gosh, not even in my imagination can I figure out how nipple stimulation could be unadvisable, unless you hook yourself up to a car battery and turn on the ignition!! I think people refer to more of a nice, gentle foreplay type thing!

shanti, the thought of that made me laugh SO hard..but I agree, I don't see how it could hurt... but If a doctor advises against it, you should of course listen to him or her.

FaerieGothMommy
July 8th, 2004, 02:26 PM
Found it :

Nipple stimulation
Some women massage their nipples as a way to induce labor. This stimulation brings about the release of oxytocin, which is the natural form of pitocin. Oxytocin causes contractions, which sometimes evolve into labor.

Most practitioners are not enthusiastic about this method of inducing labor, because it has been known to lead to excessively long, strong uterine contractions and resulting in fetal distress. Unless your practitioner advises it and is monitoring your progress closely, nipple stimulation is not recommended as a means for beginning labor.

Shanti
July 8th, 2004, 02:30 PM
The amount of potocin needed to cause that would be more than some foreplay!!! A lot more!

Potocin in large amounts (compaired to what the body would release by nipple stimulation) is what is used to induce labor!

Where did you get that?

Shanti
July 8th, 2004, 02:32 PM
And potocin as noted in that quote is not natural where as oxytocin is....that quote seems a little lacking.

You would have to be stimulating those nipples quite a lot to get that result, quite a lot!!! More than reasonable for sure.

If it was that easy, no woman would need potocin at the hospital to induce, they could just play a little!!! Be easier than the potocin and its side affects and be cheaper too!

FaerieGothMommy
July 8th, 2004, 02:34 PM
Found another :

Nipple stimulation. Twisting or pinching your nipples releases your own natural oxytocin. A few studies have found it to be effective in getting labor going within 72 hours if your cervix is already ripe, but the method has not been well studied. And you shouldn't try it at home because it can sometimes cause prolonged contractions that could stress your baby and depress his heart rate.

I got this from babycenter.com

Shanti
July 8th, 2004, 02:39 PM
Maby if your not ready to go into labor, but if you are, isnt that the idea? It sounds like its all speculation. PG woman have included nipple forplay all through pregnancys with no probs. All woman I know have and so I say its a little over kill. Thats my opinion.

Induced labor by potocin is the same as this article. Potocin I have had to induce labor...it is horrible and dangerous but the natural oxytocin I dont believe is dangerous but you can always ask your doc.

Since your due date has come and passed, would your doc approve?

Actually I think it is the muscle contractions from a good orgasm. . .so even if SO isn't available. . .you know. . .take care of things. . .
Actually, a compenent in semen-progastilin to be exact-helps stimulate labor. They have a progastilin gel available at the hospital that helps ripen the cervix. They get it from pig semen...I'd rather get it from the human source, but that's just me. ;)

Lilith79
July 8th, 2004, 05:22 PM
Serial posting, sorry.
Ask your MW about black and blue cohosh. You could also try Evening Primrose Oil, you can take it orally, but it works better if applied directly to the cervix. There are EPO caplets available at most health food stores, and those work well for that application. You could start drinking tea made from black cohosh and red raspberry leaf safely, it'll help strengthen the uterus and can help facilitate labor.

Laughter should help get things started, or at least make the time pass better. So here ya go...

Being a parent changes everything. But, being a parent also changes with each baby. Here are some of the ways having a second and third child is different from having your first.

Your Clothes

1st baby: You begin wearing maternity clothes as soon as your OB/GYN confirms your pregnancy.
2nd baby: You wear your regular clothes for as long as possible.
3rd baby: Your maternity clothes ARE your regular clothes.

Preparing for the Birth

1st baby: You practice your breathing religiously.
2nd baby: You don't bother practicing because you remember that last time, breathing didn't do a thing.
3rd baby: You ask for an epidural in your 8th month.

The Layette

1st baby: You prewash your newborn's clothes, color coordinate them, and fold them neatly in the baby's little bureau.
2nd baby: You check to make sure that the clothes are clean and discard only the ones with the darkest stains.
3rd baby: Boys can wear pink, can't they?

Worries

1st baby: At the first sign of distress -- a whimper, a frown you pick up the baby.
2nd baby: You pick the baby up when her wails threaten to wake your firstborn.
3rd baby: You teach your 3-year-old how to rewind the mechanical swing.

Pacifier

1st baby: If the pacifier falls on the floor, you put it away until you can go home and wash and boil it.
2nd baby: When the pacifier falls on the floor, you squirt it off with some juice from the baby's bottle.
3rd baby: You wipe it off on your shirt and pop it back in.

Diapering

1st baby: You change your baby's diapers every hour, whether they need it or not.
2nd baby: You change their diaper every 2 to 3 hours, if needed.
3rd baby: You try to change their diaper before others start to complain about the smell or see it sagging to their knees.

Activities

1st baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics, Baby Swing, and Baby Story Hour.
2nd baby: You take your infant to Baby Gymnastics.
3rd baby: You take your infant to the supermarket and the dry
cleaner.

Going Out

1st baby: The first time you leave your baby with a sitter, you call home 5 times.
2nd baby: Just before you walk out the door, you remember to leave a number where you can be reached.
3rd baby: You leave instructions for the sitter to call only if she sees blood.

At Home

1st baby: You spend a good bit of every day just gazing at the baby.
2nd baby: You spend a bit of everyday watching to be sure your older child isn't squeezing, poking, or hitting the baby.
3rd baby: You spend a little bit of every day hiding from the children.

Coin Swallowing

1st child: When first child swallows a coin, you rush the child to the hospital and demand X-rays.
2nd child: When 2nd child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for coin to pass.
3rd child: When 3rd child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!

Here're energies for a smooth and easy labor. Some advice if the labor goes on for more than 24 hours, and your cervix is taking forever to dialate to as large as it should: hormones. My bio teacher's wife had to do the same thing. It really helps.

djmixon

Time for jalapenos. . .eat some and then wait. . .it will 1) induce something similar to labor, or 2) at least clean out the lower intestine to make more room. . .

My Goddess!! You weren't thinking of using the Flar mehod of nipple stimulation were you?? :collapse:  There's a whole thread on that in JS..........

I'm sorry that I offered a method that wasn't very pleasing to Dr's, but on the lighter side of things, look how many times I got you all to say "nipple!"

Erm, I was just wondering what a "sweep" is. Do I want to know? Will it make me pass out? I am very queasy when it comes to mommy things - you are all so brave!!

Still thinking of you . . .

HorseCrow

Erm, I was just wondering what a "sweep" is.

It is when the midwife (or Dr) "seperates" the membranes from the cervix by placing one or two fingers inside the cervix and running them along the "circle". This releases hormones that can jump start labour.... sometimes.

I see that FGM isn't online right now, I'm hoping that means things are starting to happen. Oddly enough my mentor was discussing different ways to use runes during our study group on Sunday evening. And one of the ones he mentioned was tracing the rune for Harvest on the tummy when you want to get labor started. There are lots of good sites on the web where you can find the shape of that rune. You just draw in universal energy, or earth energy from good old Earth Mom, and use that energy to trace the rune right on the skin. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has tried this and what the results were, if anything happened.

Anyways, even if he doesn't come on his own, i will be induced on Thursday, so he should definatly be here by Friday 16th, at the latest.

Thing is, you can have a show upto 6 weeks before you actually give birth, it's not a definate sign that labor will start, and it can come out if it's been dislodged, remember i had a sweep done, so she could have dislodged it then!

But we'll see... something may happen tonight

9 pegnancies here too.....three daughters, three unwanted pregancies and three miscarriages...
