August 12-13 Games of Lugh, Peak of Perseids
The Perseid meteor showers peak on this night. The Celts associated them with the light-bearing god Lugh, who is honored at Lughnasad (Aug 1)., and called them the "Games of Lugh "since he is a hero-warrior like the Greek Heron Perseus, and there is great similarity and scholars
compare the two heroes :>
there is a chart here

some great info here
http://www.skypub.com/sights/meteors/perseids/01preview.html
but some of the predictions are saying the best viewing might be lost to the light of the moon. I am taking my binoculars anyway

Should be visible here from about 1.00am (it's now 12.30am). Apparently it will go on for a few hours.

I'm not sure what direction they will be though, any ideas?

Swannie, the constellation of Perseus is directly overhead at some time in the night. That even with a quarter Moon, if the sky is clear, there should be enough meteors to see.

Actually, the shower takes place over a period of a couple weeks. This is just the peak. Anyways, the shower should be located between Persues and Cassiopia in the north, north-eastern sky. If you need more help I have star maps for this month located in the science forum. The shower is located on there in the upper-left corner of the map. :)
