There's a Hindu (well, I suppose really any goddess) whose symbol is a waterfall?
Thanks a lot.

Hmm, I couldn't find anything. Best I could find was a Harishankar which is a God.
Any more info? Water in India itself is pretty sacred and many Goddess' are represented by rivers and such.

i know of no Hindu correspondence for waterfalls, but my wife and i are waterfall hunters, having photographed nearly 300 here in the Pacific Northwest.
one of the most spectacular is Multnomah Falls just east of Portland. at the visitors center near the base of the falls there is a plaque with this local native legend of how the falls came to be printed on it...
"Many years ago, a terrible sickness came over the village of the Multnomah people and many died. An old medicine man of the tribe told the chief of the Multnomahs that a pure and innocent maiden must go to a high cliff above the Big River and throw herself on the rocks below and the sickness would leave at once.
"The chief did not want to ask any maiden to make the sacrifice. But when the chief's daughter saw the sickness on the face of her lover, she went to the high cliff and threw herself on the rocks below and the sickness went away.
"As a token of the maiden's welcome by the Great Spirit, a stream of water, silvery white, streamed over the cliff and broke into a floating mist along the face of the cliff. Even today, as you carefully watch, the maiden's face can be seen in the upper waterfall as the breeze gently rustles the watery strands of her silken hair."
can you see her? (http://www.waterfallsnorthwest.com/waterfalldetail.php?id=1596)

Some of the falls are beautiful over in India. I wish I could see them up close.
There are some very awesome ones here too. I just went to Palouse Falls in April Greenman. It was pretty cool.

Thanks everyone, especially for the links. Perhaps the sign is a river, as I'm feeling particularly drawn to Sarasw(v?)ati.
That waterfall is gorgeous by the way.

Im not completely sure if she's hindu, but I think that Oshun is associated with waterfalls. I'm pretty sure Oshun is an African deity. :)
The deities that popped into my head where the river goddesses, Yamuna, Ganga, and Sarasvati. And the Ganges river (Ganga) was said to pour from heaven, so I guess that could sort of be like a waterfall... :D

I looked it up and she's a Yoruban diety....often depicted in/with a waterfall though...

I was involved in our local Hindu temple once. I often saw Saraswati(Sarasvati) painted with rivers and waterfalls. :)

There are many waterfalls at the source of the Ganges and Ganga is widely worshipped as a Goddess in India. Most of the information I have on her comes from books but I'll see if I can find anything online.
