Hi,
Jinx1_2 here! It's been a couple of days since I signed up and I haven't actually had a chance to sit down and introduce myself. I have been interested in paganism for most of my life but, having been raised in a strict Mormon household, I didn't get the chance to do anything about it until I left home. I have been reading anything I can get my hands on about the subject and trying to teach myself for 2 years now, and will have reached my yearly mark in practice at Yule. And although I come from a strictly Mormon background (they believe that a woman cannot receive "revelation"), the women of my family have a long history of things such as seeing and speaking with spirits and Precognition, myself included to an extent. I live in the predominantly Mormon state of Utah and so haven't had much contact with other Pagans and I will be really glad to meet you all!

Merry Meet!

hi there!
well, i'm new too. and... i'm kinda unsure what to do... yeah. i only got interested in paganism about 2 years ago or so, but i haven't had the chance to do anytihng about my interest, since i think my parents are quite against it. they don't really encourage it... i don't know what their reaction would be if i told them i wanted to be pagan; i think they would be really angry. so far i don't know much about anything (except maybe tarot, i managed to get myself a deck), so... can we be friends? i need as much help from anyone as possible... thanks
i'm glad to meet everyone in this site too, hope you all will help me along!

Well, with me what worked was not trying to hide. My mother saw me reading a book about paganism one day and had noticed the jewelry that I wear and asked me about it. It led to a really good discussion about beliefs and even though I don't think she truly understands yet, and she did get upset at first, I think at the end of the talk that she was if not completely accepting, understanding that I'm not going to freak out and sacrifice anything and that I am just looking for my own path in life. I guess we just agreed to disagree and that's good enough. I don't know how strict your parents are, but first and foremost...to thine own self be true. Do what you think is best.

:chattin: Hello, you two, and welcome... and the parent thing---- I wouldn't tell them if they would freak and preach to you. But if they are understanding, go ahead and tell them.... my mom knows, but my dad has no clue....

hi again! thanks for the advice... well, i guess maybe i'll use a bit of your advice... i think i'll reveal it gradually to them... won't come as a shock... well, not so much. i don't know what they'll think. but i hope they'll accept that i belief in a different faith from them. i really don't know... but i hope they understand. i wonder... if i've inherited anything from my mother... she has this natural flair of divination: whatever she says (e.g. there's gonna be a blackout, i think.) seems to come true, from just in a few minutes time to a few.. days? i don't know. i used to find it scary. now i don't. ahhh well i don't know how she does it!

First of all, Welcome aboard (both of you).

Secondly, as far as parents go, I wish you the best of luck. It's hard to give advice in this area, as all parents are different. I never told my mom until she started to get on my nerves with all of her chuch invitations, after which I composed a long letter explaining everything about my ways/beliefs. That was many years ago. We've had a few long talks since then, and she still invites me to church now and then, but I feel better about not hiding anymore. My dad is still rather clueless, but I think perhaps he suspects a couple things, but would rather not know, so he never talks about it. He's not very spiritual/religous, though, so it probably isn't much of a concern for him.

yeah... i guess so... i don't think i'll let them know yet, especially since they aren't very familiar with all this, so they mightn't like it. and i'm not very willing to let my friends know either (well, not yet u guess) because some of them are christian, and i know that their religion is against witchcraft, stuff like that. i'm not sure. but i think you're right, i would feel better not hiding anything, and it really depends on how my parents think. thanks for replying, tho, it's nice to hear some advice and stuff like that. and i'm pretty new to paganism/wiccan, so... if i do make any mistakes in the future please do correct me or whatever. thanks!
