This question is directed at all witches who chose to answer.

At what point did you decide to cast your first circle? When did you feel you had read enough, and wanted to put what you read into practice? Were there any special aspects to your casting?

I ask because I am contemplating my first ritual, and I am trying to get an idea of others' experiences.

Thank you!

Well, as for myself, I just started off by incorporating protective circles into my prayers; basically just doing the same thing a different way. As I became more comfortable with the process, I began to use circle casting for other things, as well - with candles and such especially. I don't really see it as having 'read enough', but mostly just being personally comfortable with the process. Then again, I'm not much of a ritualist, so.... ^_^ This might not be applicable to your particular situation. :)

I believe you meant "These questions" and not "This question" ;)

My first Circle was too long ago to remember the Why. I had read plenty and sought the help of a mentor - a friend who has been Wiccan since I can remember. Special aspects? This question: Have you found, in your readings, a particular ritual that caught your heart? If so, do not do it by "the book"! Instead, try this:

Get a pad of paper (3 hole punched) and prepare to start a Book of Shadows. Under the light of a candle, read a paragraph, or two, of the ritual you liked. Close your eyes and invision it. Then, without looking to the first book, write you vision in your BOS. Keep doing this until the ritual is done.

Later, read what you have written and form your own ritual based on what you wrote, not what you read. This will have much more meaning to you.

And fear NOT your ritual for it is yours and your alone.

Blessings,
RnR

I first cast a circle during my initiation in May 1997, the Thursday before Father's day (I remember it as that because it was the night before my dad had his first heart surgery).... I found it to be a lot easier then I thought it'd be - you might find the same, these "mysteries" will turn out to be so natural and easy to work with.

Hiya and merry meet Sarah!!!
I cast my first circle a few years ago for Beltane and I can remember feeling the same as you do now.. very curious and wanting to know how others do/did it.. all I had was a book... I wanted to cast my first circle as I had been studying Wicca for a good few years but never actually perfromed a ritual or spell... I celebrated Beltane with my first circle and ritual offering the gods and goddesses food and wine and my love, respect and energy. It was such a powerful experience and one which I will never forgot...I was quite nervous at first feeling allot of energy around me but as soon as I started the words just flowed out of my mouth as if I had always known them and I felt very energised but grounded at the same time.

Good luck Sarah ~ please tell us how it went if you want to :D
