My children go to year-round school, so their summer break is 5 weeks long. And time's up! It's back to the chalkboards tomorrow. :yayhawaii

You have never seen two children more happy to go back to school :jumprope: ....they have their bookbags packed, clothes are chosen and hanging by their beds, lunches will be made tonight. My daughter cried for days after school ended, wanting to go back immediately. We met the new teachers on Friday, and located their friends and their classrooms.
:ringaroun

They get out for a 3 week break in mid-September, and we have another beach trip planned for then, as well as a trip to the mountains. I like to travel in the fall, it's cooler, less crowded and the rates are cheaper.

So today, we're going to have one last hurrah....although I don't have any idea as what to do with them. I thought kayaking would be fun, but I'd rather my husband go with us, and I don't think he wants to...so maybe a day at the pool is in order.

Anyone else in year-round?

WOW..... You got your kids on some type of drug or something? Haha Schools still out for me and I would die if I had to go year round. How old are your kids by the way?

My son is 9 and my daughter is 8. Yeah, I don't know where they get it from b/c I couldn't stand to go to school. But their school is pretty unique, and they have lots of fun. Hmmmmm....maybe I'm not enough fun for them! :holycow:

We used to be year round here, but they switched back to the old way :(. They said it was too difficult for working parents to constantly have to find temporary child care situations every time they got out.
My daughter misses school terribly as well, but she starts middle school this year, so we'll see how she feels later on

From kindergarden to grade 8 I could never fathom being fond of school. I hated my teachers, (strangely they loved me) and all I wanted to do was talk.

When it got to highschool I'd be glad to be on summer break until about mid-august when I would get unbelievable bored and go on the internet to make school-supply lists. Then every time I got money I'd take it to Staples Business Depot and buy school supplies. Wow. I'm a geek.

Good luck with middle school!!!! :huddle:

My husband is a stay-at-home dad, so the schedule is very advantageous for us. But I can see how if both parents work, it could be difficult. Our district had a year-round "school within a school" for the past few years, but that didn't work out well for anyone, so when they go to middle school, it will be on the traditional calendar.

Oh that will be a difficult change for them. i hope it's not too much of a shock for them.

I don't know about you all, but I loved school. I'd go back and get my masters in information sciences right this instance if I could afford it. I love sitting in class and studying the material. However, I loved it more in college. In fact I was the only person I knew who loved to take four hour classes. I'm such a nerd.:graduate:

Well, despite all of our worrying, my daughter had a GRRRREAT day!!
We found out last week that she wouldn't have the same 3rd grade teacher as her brother, and that all of her friends were split between the other two classrooms.

She was up till around 2:00 this morning, just shaking with anxiety. I know, b/c she was next to me in my bed keeping me awake! I just talked to her though, and she's made new friends and seems to like the teacher. :ringaroun

My son is happy b/c he ended up with most of his buds...and they have a new male teacher.
That poor, poor man. He has no idea what he's in for :holycow: .

I went to a year round school when I was in elementary school. It was ok. Not fabulous. But on the breaks, I got so much time away from my step brother it was great!
