Okay all of you seekers...

Let's here your favored tools for Divination, and why?

I am hoping to compile a list of tools/styles here, so don't hold back. There are means of Divination out there that many have never heard of.

I prefer the tarot, probably because I have the most experience with them. With the tarot I can lay out the cards, and the meanings, and how they relate to a situation, just pop into my head, and I all of a sudden *know*.
With other methods of divination, (ie, crystal ball), it takes a lot more work. I have to clear my mind, and look for symbols, and after 5 mins of that I get bored with it :)
Haha....I guess my mind needs something more to stimulate it. I'm like that in life though.... I get bored very very very easily, and I've been told it's kinda annoying :)

Ok here goes Semele making up her own divinition. I have always been very in tune with the energy that people give off. I know instantly upon walking into a room if they are mad, sad, hurting, whatever they are feeling. I used to think it was only because I know them, but it works with strangers as well. I see people at red lights and feel their emotions, on a lower level I am sure. I have learned to see energy or aura's but I have to look for it. I find it is easier for me to feel the energy and react to it accordingly.

Now you may be thinking to yourself, Great so you can feel energy, what does that have to do with divination??? Well, I have an answer for that, (you knew I would). I use divinatory meanings to guide my actions. I don't think you can look at the cards, runes, tea leafs, or whatever and say oh my I am going to be in a wreck and die..nothing I can do about it. Well hell yes there is something you can do about it, why else would you want/need to know? Anyway I go by other peoples energy to tell me what they need from me or what others may need from me. I think it happens often that I get a message from someone without them even knowing about it.

For instance this weekend when we were in Texas my Dad was asking about my mom. They have been divorced for many years, and while it is a friendly divorce they have no need to talk now that the children are all grown up. Anyway he just kept asking is your mom doing alright? Is she in good health/spirits, etc??? anyway something about the way he was looking and the energy felt made me think about my mom and on the way home it got stronger and stronger until I finally told Mol we had to go see my mom when we got home. Not exactly what he wanted to hear after a long trip, he wanted to go home and relax... and check in hee. but he knew better than to overlook my feelings.

So after 7+ hours on the road we drove another 45 miles to go visit my mom. She was well and enjoyed our visit. She has been having some problems with her sugar,(diabetic) and may have to start taking insulin. She did just need some company for a little while. And I think it made her feel good that we came to see her after being on the road all day. Do I think something bad would have happened if we had gone straight home instead?? Not at all, but sometimes a small act can make someone feel special and save a lot of pain. Sometimes when you are all alone you start to think abut how hard things are and you just need some distraction.

Blah Blah Blah... anyway I think you see what I mean, I hope so cause I think I lost myself somewhere along the way and i may need help deciphering this.

I feel it when people are sucking or giving energy. That isnt really divination, but semele's post above made me think of it.

Right now, I am trying to use the Tarot more often. I also have been trying to study runes as of late.

Wait...you know. I do use the Kabbalah quite a bit for insight. So, I guess I do have a tool of choice.

Before I begin...Semele, I am the same way and find it hard to get rid of other peoples energy. I am VERY empathic and sometimes it is just hard to shake off myself........any suggestions?
My ways of divination come at all different times...I can be looking at a glass of wine and something comes to me...........sitting at a pond or in the woods or just looking out my bedroom skylight and I feel things...as you do also Semele...I mostly feel things...my divining comes from "within". I do have some strong results from my Smoky Quartz crystal ball also......I get a lot of visual from it! Last time I used the quartz...an older white bearded gentleman told me to "come home" and I really haven't used it since......water, fire, and air are my best ways of divination...Blessed Be to all

Divination tool of choice is generally my trusty tarot cards. However, when they're not available, my mentor taught me a method that's really hard for me to explain...it's kinda like following a trail of bread crumbs. We leave an energy trail in back of us, but we also have a short one in front of us. I can follow that and get images and situations pretty accurately.

morticia2259,
unfortunately I don't have any suggestions for how to deal with the energy. It is often very hard to deal with. I used to always try to change that which made me uncomfortable, but I finally learned to understand that it was not mine to change and that there are reasons for people to have certain feelings, including pain. I have used it to my ability to gain insight into how to approach different topics etc.

All in all I simply try to focus on the good energies that I recieve. Nothing makes me happier than to be in the presence of someone in love. It is a great, warm rush and I can't get enough of it. Last week-end at my Dad's house my half sister who is 10, I think, was dancing with her Grandfather and it brought tears to my eyes. I couldn't figure out why nobody else thought it was so special until I remembered that not everyone was tuning into their energy like I was. I could feel him enjoying probably one of the most treasured times in his life as he danced with her, the two of them laughing about how he used to hold her and dance and then when she began to stand on his feet. To her it was funny, to him... priceless. One day, long after he is gone and perhaps when she has her own children, she will look back on this day with serenity and she will likely wish she could be there again if only for a moment.

These are the great moments of being an empath and I wouldn't give these up for anything, despite all the not so great ones. I think my empath qualities may be a key to why I don't enjoy movies so much, I can't feel them and it leaves me feeling like it is so very fake. Anyway this was way longer than I intended for it to be.

Thanks for connecting with me.

Hi Semele and thank you! I had tears in my eays when I read (felt and was there) about your sister. I could see her dancing and felt your joy and happiness. Thank you for the insight on enjoying those feelings that are of love and happiness. No, I would not trade being empathic and being privaliged to experience these feelings for anything. You are soo right...along with the ability to feel the good....we must also process the sorrowful feelings we also get.....thank you for reminding me. Walk in darkness and in light for it is all about balance...Again.....thank you Semele! (sorry about writing a book for ya!)

morticia2259,
I don't have much time because I have to go meet someone but I just wanted to say quickly that I am so glad you are here. I have connected with many of the community members here, but none so strongly as you. I knew there had to be some more nuts like me out there! Its great to have someone to share with. Thank you!

A candle and a crystal. I focus using them then kind of go out. That's the closest explanation that might make sense to someone else. 8O

My favourite is the Australian Animal Wisdom Cards - which are similar to the Native American Medicine cards, only featuring Australian animals (der!) hehehe.

I also like the pendulum, but haven't used it in some time. And I have several sets of tarot cards and a rune set, all of which I have success with when I use them.

But the Australian Animals are my favourite.

Semele,
Thank you! It's very cool to know that someone else feels things the same way.........it's awesome to know that I'm not alone. Not everyone feels impressions and energys as strongly as we do and when I try to explain...I just sound nuts. I have a lot of non-pagan friends and I don't even bother to explain anymore...I just cry when I touch something or laugh when I feel something else and they are all used to me just being..........Blessed Be and I wish I lived in Oklahoma!

Hello and MM,

I only have a suggestion, and I'm not sure if will be what you are looking for, but I begin the day by "zipping up" my Central Meridian. (This technique is described very well in Donna Eden's 'Energy Medicine' book) This method is to protect you from other people's energy from 'scrambling' your own. I don't know if it will help on an empathic level. But I would say it would be worth the try. I don't have the book in front of me so I'll have to try to describe it the best that I can! The Central Meridian runs up the front of our body. (Meridians are 'energy highways' on the body, and these are what are used in Accupressure and Accupuncture as well) It starts at the top of the pubic bone and runs straight up our body, up the neck, over the chin to the bottom lip. All you need to do to 'Zip up' is follow or 'trace' this Meridian 3 times with your fingertips and when you reach your bottom lip the last time, just pretend you are turning a key in a lock. (the old 'button your lip' kind of thing :D) This should keep you strong, and is should let other's people energy 'weaken' you as much. I would think that this would also pertain to the energy of their feelings or at least the intensity.

I hope this helps! :sunny:

Okay, and now for my divination tool of choice....Tarot. I am inexplicibly drawn to them for over 10 years now. (Just recently I've gotten 'serious' about learning them!) I would like to get a crystal ball, or a black mirror soon and 'give it a go'! :) The only other means that I have experienced is prophetic dreams just FULL of symbolism! These are few and far between, but they always come when I need them! (and mostly they relate to my romantic life! :sunny: )

Dagda

My favorite (and best results with) divivation is playing cards. I put up a link to my own card definitions on my webpage.
I have also used and had results with Tarot, Runes (first cards, then stones), SilverRavenwolf's Angel runes (interesting spin on divination that I would highly recommend. They're different.), pendulums, bibliomancy, I-Ching, astrology and palm-reading.

My favorite is Playing Cards because I find they work far better with my linear mind than Tarot does. I find Tarot too abstract. I can build my own associations with the Playing Cards based on strong and simple definitions. It seems to be the method of divination that has chosen me, at any rate. :) Also, the cost of the cards makes them a collectible item and the more in my collection, the more a person I'm reading for can choose which deck would suit them best to be read with.

As I posted a month or two ago, I'm also trying to work out the use of gaming (D&D) dice for divination (as opposed to just 6-sided dice). I'm still happy to hear any suggestions!

I've always been fascinated by people who just work with playing cards, I have absolutely no idea how that works! I did have a reading by someone who used them a while ago.

I started with Tarot. I didn't like Rider-Waite and moved on to Crowley's Thoth deck and used that for a few years, still do. I've also used the Shaman Wisdom cards and I really like them. I became very interested in the runes a while ago and am mostly using them now.

I also do some very in-depth dream readings with the Dream Cards, but I can also read dreams without using tools - sometimes :T

I use the Tarot for complex, ongoing situations, but I prefer the Runes for short-term, or less complex problems. Sometimes I use the Tarot and then see what the Runes say to the same situation.

A lot of times I have problems with "catching images" just as I'm drifting off to sleep. The images are never really clear but usually portray violent or high emotion situations. Like last night, I saw (from the drivers or passengers point of view) a car running headlong into the side of another vehicle at an intersection. The T-Bone effect as we would say down here in Alabama...

I do not know who this was but as mt brakes are ticky right now and I recognized the intersection I am postponing plans that I had today... Silly maybe, but better safe than sorry.

Not silly at all. Once I felt uncomfortable about where I'd parked my car, and when I came out and went to leave, someone ran into me. Now, if I feel that way, I will actually move my car. Last year, I had an increasing sense of foreboding about driving, I even heard metal crashing. I was extremely careful about my own driving, but a friend of mine had a major wreck...........

Thanks Freyja! I don't think my daughter will fuss at me too much (she's usually understanding about this stuff) but it helps that there are those that understand...
The weather is bad down here, the brakes are grinding, and after that flash last night I'm just glad that we got the groceries yesterday!:p
