Four Directional Spread

Hi All!

I just wanted to share a spread that was in my Wisdom of the Australian Animals book. I have been doing it daily since Saturday and it's been incredibly accurate and interesting! I'm sure you could use it with whichever cards or other oracles you have.

You shuffle the deck, cut it into three piles, and then lay out the top three cards. They will be read like this... 3 - 1 - 2

Then you put the remaining cards back together, shuffle again, and then lay the top card across card #1.

They are read thus:

Card #1 - Where you are now
Card #2 - Recent Past
Card #3 - Immediate Future
Card #4 (overlaying card#1) - Biggest Influence at the moment

If anyone wants a reading done with my Australian Animal cards, let me know! I've been having so much fun with it! If you try it with a different oracle let me know what you think of it! I think it's an interesting, simple spread that offers a lot of insight into your current situation and messages you should be paying attention to.

INTERPRETATION

It looks like you've been having some trouble with just letting go and being yourself. Tasmanian Devil is saying that you have some very definite ideas on how things are, and what you believe in, but Lyrebird is saying that in the past you've gone a bit shy or quiet about these things. Probably because you aren't sure of the company you were in, or didn't feel comfortable standing up for these beliefs on your own - or maybe there's a situation that is calling for some discretion - like friends/parents/family that doesn't know about your beliefs.

You future is Lizard, and he's saying it's time to let go of your fears and walk your talk, at least as much as you can. There is nothing to be gained by hiding behind a mask. It may be time just start taking baby steps in the right direction. This might be in relation to your religious/spiritual beliefs, or it may be in relation to someone you are holding a grudge against. It is time to let go and heal, and move on in life. Emu is the biggest influence around you at the moment and he is saying it may be time for you to bring in some action, assist people who need your support right now, and be true to yourself. INTERPRETATION

OK> To read this I'd say this is where you stand now in relation to your BF moving, mainly because that's your question, and is uppermost in your mind, and because that's what the cards seem to be indicating too!!! :) (I will however address the effects of the separation in another reading for you).

OK. So your recent past is Tasmanian Devil, who is a very stubborn, aggressive and determined little fella. I would say that with relation to your BF moving you've been pretty aggressive in your feelings and not wanting him to go, perhaps you've even gone so far to try and make him choose? LOL The devil thats me ~ but not with him.. with my sister! Shes just moved into my house and I havent been too happy about it...

We are on completly different wave lengths and I have been in a mood about her moving in ~ because she just asummed she could after she came back from travelling.. and had no where else to go... but she creates chaos, mess and we argue so I didnt want her to move in.. now she has its been ok!! Yeah totally!!! With my sister and Paul ~ Im trying to just go with the house being a mess and I totally understand about Paul's job ~ that we still can be in love and go out with each other. Crow mentions that you may have gone through a stage of tunnel vision, and close-mindedness, perhaps you were really zealous about a subject recently and forgot to take into account that others have equally valid opinions?

Whale is reminding you to let go of any past hurts that you might be holding on to - they might be cropping up in your future and proving a challenge for you. Flow with life and know that things are as they should be for you. Don't get caught up in the past, instead move forward. Lilu, my question is:how does this layout relate to the directions? Or does the name refer to something else?

When I do a Medicine Card spread, the first four cards I lay out are to the East, South, West, & North, & in the reading, correspond to the aspects of the directions' elements (Earth is the place of strength, Fire is the place inspiration, Water is emotions & spirituality, Air is the place of the mind).

Is there some sort of similar correspendence? Just curious...

Good question Rick, I don't think it's related to the cardinal points in any way. What I believe (though it wasn't exactly explained in the book I got it from) is that it refers to the four biggest things in your life - or something like that.

You draw cards for past, present, future and biggest influence, so I consider it a kind of "directional" thing in that it can provide guidance in what's going on around you at the moment, and how you are reacting to this.

That's all I can tell you I'm afraid. :(

Dagda gave me my Reiki 1 attunement last Friday and ever since I have been feeling absolutley on top of this world ~ really! I have been meditating a whole lot more than I normally do. Practising Reiki every day! Practising Yoga allot more too and really feeling connected with the universe and my guides.
Ive also been in a great mood and not let anything get to me or get me down (which sometimes I quickly let happen).. so maybe this should be the right way up? not reversed? Then it would really fit.

This really ties in with my time aspect ~ I have had allot going on this week and for the next few weeks I havent planned much at all! Interpretation

I'm getting the sense that things are going really well for you at the moment, especially spiritually. You've been receiving a lot of recognition for your talents, probably in the healing section but also in general (cassowary), and you are now sitting in a position of being really in tune with the Universe and hearing its call to you. Spirit is leading you on your path and you are learning from what you are experiencing (eagle).

The immediate future looks good - as it indicates that you have friends and support where you need it, but also presents a little warning to stay in touch with those people who might be needing a little extra support right now, a little loyalty so to speak, someone to tell them that they are doing a great job and to hang in there (dog). Interpretation:

I get the impression that something is going on for you at the moment that you aren't entirely happy about. There are a lot of people on the scene all with their own opinions and thoughts, and you are feeling pressured into conforming with them, and you aren't feeling overly comfortable with this. Dugong in the past, indicates that you may be feeling the effects of the "fast life" and that you might be getting a little unbalanced, and he encourages you to take some time to get back in balance with the Universe right now, and to not let things get to you too much.

Ant seems to be indicating that you might be feeling a little overwhelmed right now - which ties in with dugong saying you might be feeling pressured and out of balance - either there is too much going on in your life and not enough people to help out or lighten the load, or there MAY be too many people meddling in your business? ;)

He's reminding you not to just go along with things because it's the easiest thing to do - you have stand up for what you want. Have you been letting other people make decisions for you lately? Biggest influence is Tasmanian Devil - and this is aggression. Which leads back to the feeling of frustration that I'm getting here. Frustration and stress. Tassie Devil is trying to teach you to harness this aggression in a positive way to achieve what you need to get done. Don't worry about the people around you and what they think - do what you need to do. His influence may also be what you can call on in order to stand up and speak your mind on a few things.
