hey there everyone. I s I said im New to the community and not sure which path I want to take, as a beginner there is alot to learn and take in, I have found that the pagan community are very friendly and make me very welcome, I am at the first stage of learning the basics and would love somebody experienced to perhaps give me a little guideance, I would love to speak to begginner also. And compare nones lol maybe just to have achat in general and make new friends, I am 18 years old and live in the UK (England) I have a keen interest in Art & Design, Watercolour Painting and Graphic Design, I also like my music, all different kinds from happy hardcore rave stuff, rap, RnB Dance Trance to healing and carming music Im easy Easy with anything im just a relaxed person anhope to make some good friends but also lean at the same time,I dont believe you can learn from just reading books. I also have a keen interest in nature and animals, especially Yorkshire Terries as i have one of my own.
Maybe some one could recommend a good book to read on Wicca/Paganism/Shamanism/

Anyway Write back soon
Take Care & hope you are all well :thewave: :fphone

Well, I tried to research everything I could possibly get my hands on. I found what I liked, and what I didn't like, and as a result I'm eclectic. I suggest reading alot and finding what works for you. Any books to start with? Umm I had to read through "The Craft" by Doreen Valentine, it was good for basic stuff. I like most of the stuff by Cunningham too. I've been practicing for about 4 years and would be happy to help you in any way I can, PM me if you have any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. Good Luck!

People who are new to the Pagan community will find a wealth of information and local contacts at http://www.witchvox.com Check out their FAQ section at http://www.witchvox.com/xbasics.html for instance for lots of info on the basics for a variety of Pagan paths including Wicca. They also have some excellent info on different sects or paths to complement the material here at MysticWicks in the "Traditions essays" at http://www.witchvox.com/xtrads.html

And they have the best listings of individuals, groups, stores, etc. for all over the world at http://www.witchvox.com/xvn.html

Hi!

The great thing about paganism is that noone can tell you what to believe or what to do, it's all up to what feels right to YOU, and you alone. At the same time, this can also be th scary part, lol, especially when you're new and don't know where to start. One piece of advice from an old hag: mistrust anyone who tries to tell you how anything "must" or "should" be done - they're most likely just trying to sell their own path or tradition.

Also, look around this forum here, there's a wealth of information available. And ask questions, many questions... people here are very helpful :)

If you lean towards witchcraft, I find that a good starting point are Marian Green's books, especially "A Witch Alone".

Hugs!!

Hi!

I'm a new too, and the best thing for me was to read up on all the topics that interest me. Then I read some more. :D I just follow what feels right to me; this search has been quite illuminating on a personal level. This board has been quite helpful. I couldn't believe how much info is collected here; scanning the forums is a learning experience in and of itself.

But the best way to find your path is to learn as much as possible about yourself and then learn about your options. You'll know the right path for you when you see, or feel it.

i recommend studying. go to the libarery and read every book on paganism u can find and remember wat u have read and then go back and try to figure out wat type seems to be more like u. like im a very earthy person. ive read books on wicca and druidism, i found my self to be more on the lines of a druid philosifer, so thats wat i went with the druid becuz im not into the whole casting spells and stuff. im more into rituals and studying nature and its wonders.

Read about what's out there, hang around this board, find out what others believe - and more than anything, listen to your own istincts.

Do lots of research... the more you like a path after reading the initial information, the more research you should do.

If you're looking for examples of paths though... here are some ideas:

Gardnerian Wicca
Alexandrian Wicca
Celtic Wicca
Faery Wicca (Also under Fay, and Fei I believe)
Heathenry
Christo-Paganism
Witchcraft
Paganism
Shamanism

Also, researching different pantheons may be helpful, such as Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Hindu...

Scott Cunninghams books are excellent sources of information, and he has them on a variety of subjects, not just Wicca. :)

Good luck, and keep asking questions!

Idiot's Guide to Wicca and Witchraft. I was very skeptical until i picked it up, and started skimming through it. There is some really good info in it.

i read a book on Wicca called wicca:the complete craft by D.J. Conway. it includes a complete year - and - one - day study course and it is very informative. Scott Cunningham and Silver Ravenwolf are also good authors. if you have any specific questions on Wicca, you can PM me.

All manner of witchy luck to you! :broomride

hey! im pretty new, too. ive been studying wicca for about 6 months now. what ive found out about paths is there really is no right way to do it. if you are unsure, maybe eclectic wicca is what you might want to start with. if you dont know what that is, it's basically freestyle wicca. then, over time, if you find a new path that you really like, you can switch. of course, you dont even have to do wicca. there are many different kinds of paganism-shamanism, druidry, and heathenry, just name a few. as for books, id recommend anything by D.J. conway or Silver Ravenwolf.
