Well, I have to recommend it!!! It is a great way to center yourself. I favor the self treatments to meditation now! They really help me feel centered. I know what you mean about the money though. I am stashing some cash back for my level two attunement!

I've been a first level for a year now.
Actually, to practice, I sit on my couch with my cat in my arms. She and I share energy well, anyway, and it benefits us both. :D Nothing in the world beats a good dose of Kitty Reiki!:D

Why not let the rest of us know what reiki's about and why it's so expensive? :)

where is that darn Dagda when we need her!?!?!
It is expensive because there has to be some exchange of energy. I do have a couple of good links...let me hunt em down and I will post them here...back in a bit!

Here are a couple of links with various tidbits of info. While some may disagree on some of the finer points they all offer a good starting point in researching Reiki.

For those of you who don't understand or accept the charging for attunements here is a webpage with a link to free teachers.

Willow,
It can be very expensive. The last link I posted lists several folks who are willing to give it for free. One, in particular, the Reiki Revolution has a lot of great info on the origins of charging for the attunements and treatments. he tells his opinion that Karma can be the energy exchange, meaning that he teaches it for free as it was given to him, in a kind of repayment. The chi, or energy is availiable to all of us and he feels that more and more people should be given this valuable tool, as do I. I am not quite sure of how I would feel about not paying for it, but I am tossing it around in my head currently....the whole idea of paying with Karma by sharing it with others etc.

It can be. Depends on who you find to teach you. I've run into people who are in it "only for the money" ~ just look at their fees. I was lucky. I found someone who was able to teach me for free.

I have done reiki one.
I am just so happy that i can help others and myself.
I also love combining it with crystals, especially amythest, increases the energy flow greatly.
My mother has a lower back problem and it seems to be helping her.
Has anyone had any experiences apart from the norm while doing a reiki session?:)

Thats a really good question!...
I havent yet because I havent started but Ive been passing on headaches for years! I take one away from a friend or myself and pass it into the air around, concentrating on the energies and imagining the pain dispersing... this is what reiki is but your borrowing energy arent you!
Im so inetrested in this healing technique and cant wait to start my first attunement!
I'll have a look at those links later Semele ~ thanks!! I can never find any interesting info pages on Reiki when I search!

the only types of reiki i know of are usui tibetan reiki
and karuna reiki.
aparently there is a so called ultimate reiki called something like celestial or light reiki? not to sure of the name
but i met a person at a holistic fair that has done it and he sais it is amazingly powerful.
He forgot to tell a client one time to take off his cell phone during the healing session and when the session was done, the cell phone was fried lol.
And my reiki instructor cant go near computers because she fries the whole motherboard and cpu :D
But i think she wears hematite or some stone to stop her random discharges.

I can't were wrist watches and I find I have to replace lightbulbs quite often(becuase of the energy I put off) , especially if my energy level has been extremely high for any duration of time. ....but I haven't heard of Reiki causing major energy catastropies! ...it works for the highest good. I haven't experienced unusual appliance mishaps. If you ground yourself before using Reiki, all should be fine. ;)
Diane Stein's book "Essential Reiki" is a great book!
There are tons of different types of Reiki out there, but essentially they are the same. Teacher's tend to throw in extra material or even symbols, so they change the name of it. I've also heard of Tara Reiki <not sure of spelling>, Karuna Reiki, Usui Tebetian Reiki. They all have the core essence of Reiki though. William Rand's Karuna Reiki is only taught to existing RMT's....like an additional advanced course, and it's pretty pricey! Each one claims something better than the others.

I agree on Diane Stein's book on being a great background book. You may also want to check out "The Original Reiki Handbook of Dr. Mikao Usui" by Frank Arjava Petter. This one goes beyond the major hand positions that are taught and covers specific Reiki positions for healing various body parts. I can't claim I've observed any results from this book, but it is interesting reading.

Welcome blue shadow!
I have also just finished reading Dr. Eric Pearl's book,
Which is called the next step after reiki, (not the book title the concept) it made a lot of sense to me, and felt much like my experience, that is why I wanted to go ahead with the reiki training, for more of a grounding or centering of myself.
I find that if I have high emotion anger, sadness or even happiness, I blow out lightbulbs, appliances even an entire fusebox once for my house (try explaining that to an repair man). I used to hate that I did that then I started to understand it a little and now can use it better.
Any other ides on further centering or grounding?

My closest friend and soul twin sister just gave me my Reiki attunement......... two day ago on the beach while we were standing in the Atalantic Ocean......
I felt an incredible "rush of energy" and began seeing colors......am still seeing some colors.... pinks and purples mostly ..... and I did a healing on her eyes not long afterward. I felt warmth and a coolness at the same time through my hands...... and not long after that I did THIS on the beach in the sand......

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try paying more attention to my hands to see if I notice anything.
I get days where things just seem to "calm down" and it feels like time to switch, others when I feel drawn to the next position, and finally others where I seem to be out of touch with the session. The latter days are frustrating; I don't know if I'm doing some good and should just keep up the position or if I'm doing nothing and should move on. Boredom just doesn't seem like a good cue to move to the next position.
Unfortunately (or is it forutunately), the person I'm doing the session for usually seems to get something out of it even on the days I feel out touch.

Reiki flows whether you are distracted or not. You are just a channel for the energy, nothing more. It serves the highest good to the person receiving it. I feel it is their own inner guide/energy system that directs where the energy is put to best use once received. I know sometimes I get really bored and distracted, but I feel that is only human nature. :D I just try to use that time to meditate, as I instruct my Client to do that as well.

Yup, and we sleep away at least six hours :)
If anyone is interested , here is a technique i found , and if practiced daily, your energy intake will grow:
Sit back straight on a chair , feet flat on the ground and relax.
The place your left hand palm down on your left leg and hold your right hand up palm facign outwards.
Now send reiki to fill your room, the plannet, the universe and feel how there is an increase in energy.
Do this until you have had enough, if you feel uncomfortable just stop and try again another day.
It works for me allong with chigung ofcourse :)

I was attuned in Reiki II a few weeks ago and don't know why I waited a year after doing Reiki I. I've decided to go for the Master level.
I've been practicing as often as I can with someone who has a chronic illness. He says that during treatment, he feels distanced from his pain. Even if nothing else is accomplished, I think that this is a very valuable benefit of treatment.

I am supposed to be doing Reiki Level One Attunement next month with a friend. She has a Christian spiritualist faith but does not know I am pagan. The person doing the attunement also has no idea about my beliefs and I was wondering if this would have any effect on the outcome.
Also someone else I know has had her Reiki Two Attunement and now has a spirit called William talking to her and I was wondering if this is normal. She also has a Christian spiritualist faith.

Thanks, SV and congratulations! I hope to be doing my Reiki III within the next month. What a "brill" idea (I love that word!). I have been trying to talk to him about getting a Reiki I attunement from my master ~ but why not wait til I get there and do it myself?! Duh!
Kalena, I am on several Reiki lists and have seen argument after argument about this on almost all of them. Is it possible for you to find a pagan master to do your attunements? Or someone whom you are sure is pagan-friendly? I'm saddened by the controversy about some practitioners' ideas of where Reiki fits in with various spiritual paths. I'd rather see you avoid the issue altogether if possible. If you can't, then you should probably go with your own judgement as to whether to say anything about your faith. And there really isn't any reason to discuss it with her/him. There are even some folks who consider Reiki itself to be their path.
My guides are with me during Reiki ~ and magick and meditation ~ and I have seen images of different people on occasion while self-treating or treating long-distance. If this person is comfortable with William, then I see no cause for concern.

July 16th, 2002, 01:41 AM
Hey kalena
It makes no difference to the attunement wether the master and student are christian , pagan or other.
The attunement is done in unconditional love without the bonds of religion and analytical thinking so it will work just as though the person of your own faith or viewpoint had given it to you :)
The only thing wich might be a little bit of a problem i think would be if the master teaches from their religion after the attunement without taking others beliefes etc into account.
I am doing my masters for usui and tibetan reiki in one month time and have done level one of karuna ki and when i begin teaching, i will not add any religious aspects to the classes unless it is asked for.
And i generally find that most masters teaching any form of reiki will not at all be worried about who comes from what religion.
Hope that sheds some light on your question along with Freyjas
help.
enjoy;)

Just wanted to add this, from Reiki: The Science, Metaphysics and Philosophy by Dr. John & Esther Veltheim, p. 36:
Reiki is not a belief system, religion or cult
"Reiki is practiced by people of all persuasions. Christians, Muslims, Jews, atheists and agnostics are all able to receive the benefits of Reiki because it is not tied to any religion or philosophy........You do not need to belong to any group or association.
There are no gurus in Reiki although a few people have set themselves up as such. Reiki Masters are normal human beings who are trained to initiate people. They have normal human traits, strengths and weaknesses. We like to think of ourselves as 'master learners.' "
I agree with Mythril in that religious concepts should not be brought up unless they are asked for.
Kalena
July 16th, 2002, 05:34 PM
Thank you.
Freya, no-one has asked me about my religious beliefs and I have not mentioned them. They have assumed and I have not corrected them, I have always thought my beliefs are personal and have never felt inclined to share them. As for finding a pagan Reiki Master, I would not know where to start looking. I do not know the ehat religion the person doing the attunment is, but I like and trust him. I have been assured that religion does not come into it by several people but it is something to be told and quite another to 'know' - if you see what I mean.
I do not think my friend is concered about 'William', I was just wondering if it was normal. My house could get a little crowded what with cat spirits and piskies.
Thank you also mythril for your help.

No problem Kalena.
I am very certain that you will really enjoy reiki as a system towards self realisation. and of course helping others.
Since i have had my first attunement, So much change has occured in the way that i think and view the world.
It seemed that working with the loving universal energy started to disolve my ego and i started seeing the truth.
I have since gone through hectace depression and other mind things, which is really good as i was releasing the old patterns.

Generaly, i think the teacher should be very patient and light hearted.
Other than that, i think it is up to the individual to choose the person that they feel is right for the job :)
I am hopefully going to be teaching a bit in two months or so.
Would be nice too hear from everyone on what kind of teacher they would like to learn from.
So we can all get some ideas.

Silver, are you a reiki master. You do teach dont you?...
Im asking because i feel that this wonderful art should be shared freely with others.
I think it is fair to ask for a small amount to make the student manuals for ones class but there are so many other reiki masters here where i stay who charge very high prices just for level one, never mind the other levels.
I dont think they would be to happy to find out that i am going to be charging less than R100, $12 for those in other countries :)
Since you have experience in teaching, what do you think about this?

Mythril my dear, I think youve got the wrong end of the stick ;) Im just a meer level 2
I'd love to become a reiki master some day but at the moment Im content with level 2 :)
I agree with you on the fee's subject, I think its such a great generousity if you dont charge much for passing on and teaching this wonderful natural energy practice! I really dont like to see all these over priced reiki courses everywhere, I think it gives reiki a bad name and doesnt spread the work productivly.. but I know there are those who would argue the other way..
Arduinna thats a brilliant idea! :) Id love to do that too and have often thought about approaching local groups and hosiptals but the last 6 months Ive moved 3 times and only just got settled, so one Ive had my baby (in the next 4 weeks :)) and everything calms down a little, probally next year now I am deffinatley going to volunteer Reiki for free for those who need it.

In one of our local hospitals here, there is a group that meet once a week. It's not called Reiki but they do Healing Touch. I'm not sure what the differences are. Things like Reiki and Healing Touch and Theraputic Touch are starting to become more acceptable in hospitals here.
I think I found a teacher for Reiki. I've talked with her a couple of times & she feels right. I've heard so many horror stories about bad teachers. The cost for her classes are $150.00 each for level 1 & 2. I think that's standard around here. That would be a total of $300.00 for this. I'll have to think hard about this.
For those who have their Reiki, do you think it was worth the money?

Absolutely worth every penny :)
I say, go for it, you wont be dissapointed;)
Enjoy
And anyone who would like to send distance healing to the earth and places in need can join me on sundays at ten o'clock in the morning.
I begin at 10 on the dot and connect with the universe and send for about half an hour or so, it doesnt really matter for how long, it is up to you.
Anyone interested in joining me?

:) What a lovely idea ~ I am interested in joining you, what time would that be over here in the UK? (sorry Im terrible with thew world clock..)
Wild ~ I would too say your right being cautious as is worth finding a really good teacher, one that you connect with too, and as for the money, it is an expense but certainly worth it! :) Dagda (from here!) taught me via emails, she was great and I found the attunements amazing experiences as it felt like she was with me and I could feel her attuning my hands and feet even before she typed that she was (the attunements were carried out in a chat room) ~ Reiki really can be sent through time and space!

Hello!
And, congratulations to everyone who has reached their Reiki goals. I am very excited also about starting my Reiki training for 1st degree level. I am curious what types of Reiki everyone does here? I have heard of Karuna and a few others, but not familiar with these. I will be trained under the Usui tradition. I was wondering if anyone could reommend a good starting book to read before I start my training with the Reiki Master? Thanks!

Hi Mysty, sounds as though your really excited! Thats great!
I think most train under the usui tradition, some would say its the only tradition :) I trained under this with Dagda. But also like to encorperate crystals and singing bowls with my reiki practice and some would say this is Rainbow Reiki :)
Id strongly recommend ~ Diana Stein's ~ Essential Reiki ~ its really good and written from a very readable, personal perspective :)

Diane Stein sounds familiar, I think I may have read a book written by her long ago, having to do with the Goddess or Cronehood. Is Usui the originator of Reiki? I would also be interested in incorporating crystals in Reiki. I will pick up the Diane Stein book. Thank you again!

You can start at 9 o clock in the morning because i think we are ahead one hour in south africa .
So if you start at nine and i at ten, we will be sending at the same time :)
I am going to start by connecting with you and then carry on sending love and light to the earth and government so that they hopefully can make the right decisions in terms of not destroying a huge amount of trees and to stop harming the marine life with their sonars and generally sending to mother earth.
Anyone who wishes to join can do the same.
MystyPines: First of all, i love your nick name "mystypines", lovely.
I have been practing the Sensei Mikao Usuis reiki system as well and have been attuned via distance to karuna ki.
The difference between the two is that you are introduced to more symbols in karuna reiki. Infact there are about eight or so, must find my manual, and i have been attuned to the first four.
Each symbol like the ones that you use in 2nd degree usui are just used for focusing on the different aspects of the energies for example compassion, or sensitivity etc.
These symbols are actually wonderfull. I have been through many changes after using them. They have helped a lot.
But otherwise, reiki is reiki, i think that the different systems just introduce different techiniques but Usui shiki Rhyo is the original. All the other methods started popping up afterwards.
Hope that helps, and dian steins book is very good .

Hello!
I have a question for you Reiki healers, how long does it take to achieve all 3 levels (attunements) of Reiki. I ask this because I have seen at websites that some Masters train one day for each level. Could that be right 3 days and you are a Reiki master? hmmm. Then, I have seen some say 3 months between each Reiki level. I have even seen on Ebay people selling all 3 attunements with certificates for $30.00 giving the attunements from a distance. I would appreciate any input on this? Thank you!

From what I've heard and read, the best thing is to take your time going from level to level. I don't know...I still haven't done my level I yet. I can't help thinking what if it doesn't work for me.
I picked up Diane Stein's Essential Reiki & it's really good. I'm not sure I agree with some of her historical presentations but I like her no nonsense style. By far, one of the better reiki books I've read so far.

Yes, she does have the Reiki III symbols in her book. I found the hand placement charts really helpful. I'm going to get my first attunement next Wed & I'm really excited. I've been working with some of the placements from her book & have been getting small success with them. That's even without any attunements.

Thanks you guys, I will have to read Ms. Stein's book. In your opinion, what is the best way to learn reiki? I was thinking about taking classes, since an instructor could guide me. It seems like you all have learned reiki from various means. How did you learn it, and do you recommend that method to others?
Good luck with your attunement, Wildchild. :)

I've done my Reiki I and II instruction in small groups with a Master in my area. I'll be doing III in a few weeks. While I'm a firm believer in long-distance attunements and treatments, I prefer to be taught face to face. This is just my own preference and I'm not discounting long-distance attunements. I think a lot of the reiki instruction on the internet has gotten a bit out of hand, but that's just my opinion. In my Reiki II attunement, I agreed to keep the symbols sacred and it bothers me to see them all over the place.

I can understand about you wanting to keep the symbols sacred Freyja, especially if that is what you pormised with your attunement, but I also am a fan of Diana Stein and her book, and sharing reiki with the world as much as possible.
I found reading about and seeing the symbols so stimulating and empowering that it actually spurred me on to learn more and take my Reiki II.
I was taught over the net, by our very own Dagda herself (she's great!) and really enjoyed the freedom of learning at my own pace in my own time, but missed the one on one tutoring and verbal learnign process. Stein's book actually helped alot too, as I had her story/voice and Dagda's to teach me.
I found both my attunements mind blowing and very powerful!
Good Luck with your attunements Wild and Freyja! :sunny:

Wow, what you said about the symbols impacting you is really interesting. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned or something :T Someone I've been giving treatments to has been seeing symbols without ever being shown them ;)
I've had several long, long distance treatments and attunements that were very powerful, and I think that if two people who have a connection and line up like that can definitely make it work! Again, hands-on is just a personal preference.
I do intend to become a Master, so of course I'm planning on teaching at some point but that's a long way off right now.

I dont think your old fashioned at all, the symbols themselve's are like whisper's to me, so I can understand anyone wanting to keep them secret and sacred. I call them whisper's because I also think that the symbols whisper there shape/form/pattern to the person recieving the healing, if they see/recieve them is really all part of the amazement of reiki hey!
I personally found that seeing and reading about all the symbols (in Stein's book) made perfect sense to me, they all seemed so familiar, like I had been whispered them already, just not caught the whole message.. this I think etched the symboled I had been attuned to even more into my mind and took reiki to another level for me.. its hard to describe!

I have seen faces, very clearly, many times during long-distance sessions. These people are unknown to me on the physical level and I believe that they are my guides. I was discussing one of them with a friend and she suggested that it may have been the goddess Frigga.

Thanks Freyja,
I think that is so cool. Have you tried asking their names?? DH has had contact with this presence before. But he has been gradually showing himself. It started with just the eyes during meditation. My Reiki teacher had told me to ask for their names when they make themselves known, so I had discussed it with dh. We didn't expect it to happen during a healing though.

I just got my Reiki 1 attunment done last night. I thought I had gone, not expecting anything, but I must have some pre-concieved notions because it was not what I had thought it would be at all! :p
I think I expected the sensations to be more emotional or spiritual but it was all very physical. When she was putting the symbols in, I actually felt pinching at the top of my head as my crown chakra was opening. Afterwards, I didn't really feel any different but was very tired by the time I got home.
The odd thing is that the arthritis in my hips doesn't seem to be as painful today. I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it or something is happening. But usually, sitting here at work would be very painful for me...but not today.

No, I haven't tried that yet. Initially, I thought that they might be people who were receiving since a Reiki list that I'm on sends energy to different groups each Sunday.
More bizarre than that.....I have been giving Flar lots of treatments. He dreamed of a man who lives in South or Central America who told him that he would assist me with the symbols when I treat, and Flar was to give this message to me. I've discussed this with several masters and they feel that one of my guides spoke to me through Flar.

Arduinna - how did it feel to you when you initiated your student? I'd love to hear the experience from the 'other way around' - I know just how amazing it was when I was attuned to Reiki 1.
Also, wierdly, I have no compulsion to do Reiki II or III. I feel as though this is just as much as I can handle right now. Strange or what?

Hi Nina,
How did it feel. It actually felt really similar to when I was attuned myself. The first thing I noticed on her was that her hands were burning hot. I had that swirling energy feeling and felt warm. It was really cool.
About you not wanting II or III right now. I don't think it's strange. I think it's really good to go with your own intuition. You'll know if and when your ready to do more.

Hello!
I know you didn't ask me, but I thought I'd share my experiences with you, too.
My lady and I recieved our 3rd Degree Reiki attunements last month. We did "practice" attunements on each other, but not on a newbie.
My father was in the hospital, dying from a nasty staph infection he picked up during his stay there. We had done healing after healing, and it seemed little else could be done. One night, very late, I got the impulse to give my father an attunement. I don't really have an explaination; clearly my father was not going to recover & become a healer...BUT I could feel the golden energy stream into his bodies, filling him with joy & peace. He seemed to radiate with energy! Then, I did it again! This time Becky (my lover) assisted. We both asked that he use whatever he needed, and discard the rest, b/c he was unable to give verbal assent. His passing was peaceful, with most of us (except me & Becky) kids in attendance, and our mom + some of the grandkids.
They all heard bells right after he passed, even the nurse in the room with them. People outside the room didn't hear them, but all within the room clearly heard bells pealing for at least one minute!
I later read that giving an attunement to someone when the are very sick can ease their passage from this world to the next, if they are past the point of healing, or it is simply their time to go.
So that is my story of my first Reiki I attunement. So sad yet wonderful!
I hope my next ones will stick around here for a while and help heal the planet and Her people! LOL:D

Epona, that is so moving. To assist a loved one on their passage to their next destination must be so special, and an honour. I am awed by that!
For me, reiki has become such a major part of my life. I use it during my yoga practice, which has enabled me to access so much more benefit from it. I meditate while I run Reiki through myself.
I find that Reiki will come through me in the most unexpected situations, and I'm learning to flow with it.
With Reiki, I feel my own aliveness (if there is such an expression!) so strongly. I feel my interconnectedness with the universe, while at the same time understanding my uniqueness. It's a hard concept to explain, but a wonderful thing to feel!

An attunement is rather like an initiation. The difference is that the reciever gets passed a special kind of energy from the Reiki Mistress (Master). The energy is not from the teacher, but through her. The word Reiki means Universal Life Energy, and that is what is passed along.
After the attunement, the Reiki student uses her hands to send the energy to herself (Reiki 1) and to others (Reiki 2). Since this board is for and by Magical People, I can assure you this will be very familiar to you. You know how you use your hands to empower water to make holy water? Or to charge a talisman? It feels very similar, but if you were on a 9-volt battery before, now you are plugged into a wall socket! Then with Reiki 2, it moves on up to 220 volts! Absolutly incredible! And Reiki is not just for healing; I use it all the time to help with Magick.
Now, in response to your original question: All you need for healing yourself is Reiki 1. If you want to heal others, and do distant healing, you will want Reiki 2 also. If you plan to teach, Reiki 3 should be your goal.
These "Degrees" build on one another, like in the Craft. There is no set time between degrees, but a general guide is at least 3 weeks between 1 & 2, then 6 months to 1 year between 2 & 3. This is so your bodies (physical, astral, etc.) can adjust to the increasing energy levels.
Read Diane Stein's book "Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art". Here is a link to Amazon to check it out: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1580911005/qid=1035304795/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/102-4990156-0049710
She has been known to give all 3 degrees in a weekend without ill effects, so let your intuition be your guide.
Be aware that some people charge a LOT of money for the attunements. I tend to agree with Diane Stein that Reiki should be available to everyone, so I feel that it should be reasonably priced, and nobody should ever be turned away because they have no money.

Epona...
I was taught that Reiki I allowed you to open to use Universal Life Energy on yourself, or others that you are in close contact with - laying on of hands on the body, or on the aura. Reiki II allows you to learn distance Reiki, and III allows you to attune others. Before I got my Reiki I certification, I had to provide 8 case studies of using Reiki on other people.
I have no actual desire to go to Reiki II - yet - I'm happiest using Reiki on myself, and those who come to me. I also want to explore this stage to it's fullest, before moving on to Reiki II. The most remarkable Reiki experience I've ever had was when I was a 'guinea-pig' for Silver Venus when she had just been attuned to Reiki I, so I don't believe that a Reiki I, II or III are necessarily better than each other.
I agree with you entirely on the fact that you can use Reiki in all sorts of ways - I use it on my pet, my food, magickally, to cleanse rooms, and Reiki charged bath water is amazing - especially when you laze in it and continue giving Reiki to yourself at the same time!!!

That is very interesting! When we did the class, there were 16 Pagans there. We all did Reiki on each other, practicing the hand positions. Our Reiki Master did encourage us to use the energy on ourselves, but of course we helped others as well...I realize from your reply I gave the wrong impression...senior moment...woops!
BTW: Diane Stein was passing attunements at level 2. And now I've read that Reiki did survive WWII in Japan, and the Japanese were much suprised to learn that Westerners were doing Reiki! LOL I think Reiki is much more freeflowing than rules will allow, and that it has an intelligence of it's own.

You are absolutely correct! Again with the wrong impression. Truly, in my own experience, and with many others I have spoken with or read about, the other levels are just that: other levels. Reiki 1, 2 & 3 are said to increase available power exponentially. This has indeed been my personal experience. I think also it is different for Magickal People, who have experience in moving energy. We take to Reiki like ducks to water! Reiki 1 is still an awesome amount of power!

Reiki is a wonderous thing isnt it.
I think we should really be thankfull for Sensei Usui recovering it and spreading it once again :)
Nina:
I totaly agree that it doesnt matter what level you are at in the reiki system.
All that counts is total openness with the reiki source and the supply of reiki is limitless.
I feel the levels also give one more tools to work with.
I have been reading a lot on japanese reiki techniques and sensei usui's life and found out the he mainly taught the symbols to those who had dificulty opening up to the energy.
Although i have had some amaisingly wonderfull releases using the emotional symbol, they dont seem to be totaly necessary.
All one needs is focus on what level they would like the healing to occur and the reiki seems to work on that level.
Anyway, hope no one minds me butting in to the conversation :)
Peace
Nina
October 24th, 2002, 01:27 PM
Mythril - don't you dare apologise for butting in!
Your comments make me sure that I'm doing the right thing for me by sticking at level I right now.
I do feel that if you have done energy work before, you find yourself opening up to Reiki even more quickly - and I find my magickal work even more intense now I have been attuned. I also find my yoga practice is better - laying in savasana after a yoga session, I run reiki through myself, and it is wonderful!
Reiki is something I wish I had come across years ago - it's certainly changed the way I am and feel. Right now I've just had a major disappointment (that's an understatement!) in my life, and for once I haven't descended into apathy or depression, and I'm sure that the reason is my Goddess, Reiki, and yoga. I may have lost a love, but I haven't lost myself in the process. Reiki seems to affirm my place in the universe, my self-worth and esteem too.
Good grief, I must be growing up!!!

Hi, maybe someone can give me some insight or views on my experiances since I was attuned for Reiki 1.
I was attuned with a friend, she saw lilac patterns and swirls. I felt incredibly sick and had to focus on not throwing up while the attunement was being done.
Afterwards I felt as though I had holes in my palms, which did calm down but left them very itchy. I did a full Reiki session on a friend just over a week after and she said it was incredable, the feelings of relaxation etc and it lasted over a week. The were other more physical improvements too.
However I found I could no longer use the energy I been using before. This really concerned me and I stoped using the Reiki for selfhealing and anything else.
After talking with another friend about two weeks after this I started the self healing again and was starting to get used to the Reiki. I was still not able to use the energy I had before but had decided that I probably had not give the Reiki enough time to attune properly.
Anyway about two weeks ago someone close to me was admitted to hospital and I tried using the Reiki but felt nothing at all.
BUT without trying to I could use the other energy. Now I should make it very clear that they are different forms of energy although used in a similar way. They feel very different.
I am not sure now, having reread the post that I have made any sense whatsoever. I hope I have.
Oh and I have not tried to use the Reiki for over two weeks now.

Wow, that's interesting. I've had several Reiki masters advise me to get through the levels as soon as I've met the requirements. It was a long time before I got around to Reiki II and I did notice that I felt more capable of using it effectively although I'm not saying that I feel it necessarily works any better. I just felt that the experience was greatly enhanced and I felt a lot more confident.
Yes, we can use Reiki for so many things. I charged Flar's bath water with it when he had a fever and the fever quickly abated. Another time I gave him Reiki when he had a fever and we actually took his temperature to see if it had gone down a few degrees, and it had. My car was making an awful noise recently and I'm too broke to get it fixed. I've been giving the car Reiki every time I get in to get me safely to where I'm going. The car has not made that noise, which seemed to be coming from the rear brakes, for the past three days.
Kalena, I haven't had any experiences similar to yours so I don't think that I can be of help. The healing crises that I have experienced in relation to Reiki seem to apply more to events and life circumstances than physical changes.

How did you find that you couldn't use it anymore? Was it just that you weren't feeling the same during healing as you had before? Or was it something else?
Anyway about two weeks ago someone close to me was admitted to hospital and I tried using the Reiki but felt nothing at all.
It's ok that you didn't feel anything. All the Reiki healers I've talked to (and my teacher) and myself have experienced each healing as different. It isn't the same every time. There have been times when I could really feel the energy and times when I didn't. What I feel and what the person recieving feels aren't the same. Also I usually feel it more when working on someone else than myself. When you put your hands down it flows, even if you don't feel it.
But without trying to I could use the other energy.
I'm not sure what other energy your refering too.

Kalena
perhaps i can be of some help here , i have experienced healings where i didnt feel much either, there are a few possible reasons for this that i have researched:
1. Because the reiki energy is of a enourmously high vibration, if the person recieving the healing has problems with their higher astral boddies, not the etheric or more physical related ones, then the reiki energy knows exactly at what level it should opperate and therefore one may not necessarily feel the energy working but it certainly is. the higher the frequency of energy the less physical feeling would normally occur.
In this case i suggest rather trying to just be and not try to find a physical feeling in your hands or anywhere else, just have trust in reiki.
2. Sometimes the person might have a blockage in that area, which might be preventing the flow, i find that a rattle shaken in this area helps to loosen the blocked energy and then the flow should be easier to start :)
And lastly to the different kinds of energy:
This is my point of view but i comes from experience:)
-energy is energy, one may feel that there are different types but chi can manifest in a number of ways, depending again upon the frequence and rate that it is vibrating at.
Try doing a healing in different light spectrums, you will find that in a red light, the energy would be more physically felt and you will sense that it is different to the energy that you experience other times.
A higher light spectrum would create higher vibration of energy which again would change the way the energy vibrates and it would feel diferent.
That is why when doing healing or any other magickal work, when visualising different colours , the energy will act in different ways and cause different outcomes.
That is my theory, and i am going to stop chatting away now :D .
Hope that gives some insight.

I work as an Aromatherapist and Reflexologist and have been using something very similar to Reiki for a number of years. The feel of the magical (I'll call it that for want of a better word) energy is very different from the Reiki. This was noticed even by clients who were unaware of what I was doing. Although they enjoyed the treatments they felt there was something 'missing', especially in the weeks just after the attunement.
I was very usure before I had the attunement as to whether I should and maybe this has affected me more than I realised.
I have even considered the fact that the Goddess does not want me to use Reiki.
Unfortunatly I have been unable to find anyone who has had a similar experiance.
The friend I did the attunement with has used it with success on friends and animals so I am sure it is me.

My only thought is that you might have been using a lot of your 'personal' energy before, which does feel very different to Reiki. Did you used to get tired after your energy work?
I've never been good at giving my own energy away, so Reiki was fantastic for me - people have really been able to feel it.
I can't think that the Goddess doesn't want you to have Reiki - but on the other hand, perhaps your personal energy is so strong or perhaps it's your energy that some of your clients need... I don't know, I'm just guessing here!
I hope you settle in to your Reiki!

No, I have never been tired after treating a client.

Hmmm... then I haven't got a clue! Sounds like you have a really strong connection to your clients, though - and that's fantastic.
Good luck with finding your way through this - I'm sure that you will.:)

Kalena:
I think that if you are helping people with whatever you know, then that is wonderfull, it doesnt really matter what you are using then does it?...
And it is great that you dont get tired when healing, that means that you are connected to the source and are channeling energy, not only using your own. which is similar to reiki then.
And reiki flows the moment you think about helping another,
Was it the same before you had reiki?
Did you have to focus and actively send the energy you were using or did it start flowing automatically without trying?

Yes, I do usually have to focus on the energy for it to flow. At times, especially when doing an aromatherapy treatment, it is almost like an exchange of energy. The negative energy from the client flowing out and being replaced with positive energy.
The Reiki feels like a pulse of energy whereas the other feels constant and softer.

I have only ever used reiki so it is interesting to know, thankyou.:)
I do practice indian head massage and i do use reiki but also because of the physical manipulation, my energy also goes into the work, is that the same as aromatherapy massage?

What healing practices do you do, only reiki or do you also practice aroma therapy or others things?
Nina

I'm not a qualified aromatherapist, although I'd love to learn more, but I do use aromatherapy on myself. Other than that, it's just Reiki. What about you, Mith?

Im going to be starting indian head massage, i did the course about a year ago but have not practiced it for some time, and unfortunately i lost contact with my instructor so i couldnt do my practical exam and get certified, how unfortunate  .
Otherwise i practice reiki, especially distance healing and am going to start helping anyone who comes for help next year.
I also help my Sensei teach Tai chi chaun.

The aromatherapy routine I use is very gentle, relying on the oils to do most of the work but because I found it very easy to use my healing energy during the routine I did. Then having realise that it was similar to Reiki I did the 1st attunenment and that is where all the problems started.
However I went last night to receive Reiki from the friend I was attuned with and she found my hands and feet had a blockage of energy. In fact they were increadable painful for me while she was concentrating on them and she also had a very heavy dull ache in her arms, up to her elbows.
When she had finished she put her hands to realine the chakras and then she moved them just above so her hands were in my aura and I felt so sick she had to stop.
I did sleep well though.

Hope you get well;)

I haven't a clue. The only thing I can think of is that in the past I have badly sprained my right ankle several times dancing and skiing so it could be partly physical. I suppose now I just have to figure out how to clear the block as well as what caused it.

Isnt it amazing how a injury which occured a long time ago can still create trouble.
My mother sprained her ankle at least two years ago and she still gets a bit stiff and because she was walking mainly on her other foot for a month, here back also started giving trouble.

I've been level III for about six months now. Since my life has gotten so busy in the last two months with a new job, I haven't been able to invest the time that I should but my sweetie and cats still get quite a bit. It's the self-treatments and attunements that I'm having trouble finding time to do and they are badly needed. Yesterday I repeated Reiki II as it is required as part of the teaching Master. Since 20 long distance attunements are also required, I may be offering a few on this board in the future, but please don't request one just yet since things have still not stabilized with the new job. I'll post a thread when the time is right.
:T We don't get fancy around here. I practice Usui Reiki directly as taught by Dr. Usui. It's all I can do just to remember the Japanese names of the Masters........

Freyja, Semele or Mol,
I have been researching different things and have decided that I would like to pursue some Reiki instruction. Since you all are Reiki students/masters and in the same geographic area…perhaps you all can direct me to a local teacher? If you would prefer to reply via PM/eMail I will be keeping my eye on all of em. =)
Thanks in advance!

That sounds great, sharing attunements are certainly a great way of practicing.
On that note if anyone would like a distant attunement from me let me know, i would also like to practice it via distance and come to think of it, it is a great way to really connect with one another.
All that is needed it a photograph and your name.
Go well
Here is another idea, there is a website called Reikido.org if i can remember correctly which talks about 21 day meditation.
Would anyone here be interested in starting a 21 day meditation?
It would generally involve the group of people sitting together in a japanese dojo but since we are far appart we can do it any time as long as it is once a day at home.
It involves first practicing a session of HatsuRei ho and then Sazen meditation for the remainder of the time, after ward, the Usui Reiki precepts are said and Buddhist heart or diamond sutras said (if you follow Buddhist thinking) and give thanks thanks.
Anyone interested? :)
peace

I think it's a great idea, Mythril but I wouldn't be able to participate right now as I've got too much going on to commit to anything extra. We did a Saturday Reiki share on one of the lists that I was on each week, sending to each other. We didn't synchronize the times or anything and it worked really well.

Hi Freyja
No worries, the reiki share sounds like it was really great .
Any time you are free, let me know. I will probably be starting it soon.
Imagine going to mnt Kurama for a month and practicing there, the mountain is said to be a wonderful power spot so to speak.

I have recently purchased two video tapes of the Reiki workshop by Frank Arjava Peter and Chetna Kobayashi.
I do recomed it to you guys, they first talk about japanese culture and a bit about Usui Sensei and show his memorial stone.
Then the second tape shows a few japanese Reiki Techniques used by the Gakkai in japan.
If you go to i think Reiki.org, this is offhand thinking, i might be mistaken, you can have a look.
Great source of info regarding traditional practice in japan and what has been found out so far from students there.

Exactly and that is why it is such a wonderful practice, it is totaly natural and it is up to you to continue working with the energy to experience more of what it can do.
An interesting point is that Usui sensei only taught the symbols to the dr Hayashi and perhaps a few others only during the last few moments of his life here. The symbols where supposed to help those that werent very sensitive to the different energies as it provided a focus and since dr Hayashi taught what he learnt to his students and hence Mrs Takata which is how western Reiki was started.
So i also dont see the point of hiding the symbols, in fact, they are displayed freely in japan, as they are representitives to the different energies and have no such use to one who is not empowered into reiki.
Also since Dr Usui encouraged his students to practice Kotodama (mantras) which help one connect to the earth energy (power symbol) and heaven energy (emotional.mental symbol) and connection to all things(distance symbol).
And while practicing these Kotodama, all students would say together and you can be pretty sure that people outside the dojo would be able to hear this and therefore no need for secrecy.
But it is important to give due respect to the symbols of course and the kotodama. They should be used with right intention which is perhaps why they were deemed secret, so that some people would not just flaunt them and say that they were magicians or something of the sort hehe. :)
Enjoy

I have come to realize that I have the natural ability to heal through the use of energy.
I have had this ability since I was young.
I still plan on learning Reiki though.
