For Those Who Suffer

For those who suffer,

and those who cry this night,

give them repose, Lord;

a pause in their burdens.

Let there be minutes

where they experience peace,

not of man

but of angels.

Love them, Lord,

when others cannot.

Hold them, Lord,

when we fail with human arms.

Hear their prayers

and give them the ability to hear You back

in whatever language they best understand.

*sigh* thanks for that, EP...brings back wonderful memories.....

Know what I wish? I wish some enlightened pagan would write a pagan version of the song "One Bread One Body"...have you ever heard that? I used to sing descant for that song in my parish choir and just LOVED singing it....

At the risk of being lynched the one thing (and right now the only thing) I still love about my former faith is the music....90% of the time it was always uplifting and beautiful....

Ooh, I've always loved church music... there's something about the voices and the echo in the room that's just so beautiful and reminds me of Christmas. :)

One Bread One Body ?
Incidentally there's an asf of it at http://religion-cults.com/songs.htm

If I can find the lyrics I'll give a shot to Paganizing it.... for interest's sake...

I can give you the lyrics for the chorus right now

One Bread, One Body
One Lord of all
One cup of blessing which we bless
And we, though many
Throughout the Earth
We are One Body in this One Lord

Oh! I remember the first verse too:

Gentile or Jew
Servant or Free
Woman or Man
No More.....

(chorus)

Does that help???

And thanks for the link!!

Oh! I forgot to ask...does anyone know where I can get a copy of the song "O Happy Day" as sung in Sister Act II? I just love it... I'm not Christian anymore, but I think it's just a fantastic song!!!

Still a Christian at heart when it comes to the music

Hm personally I think that defies religion in the first place. We are all one and we love eachother. No need to "paganize" that point!

Blessings Rae:) John Michael Talbot, Carey Landry, and Omer Westendorf are probably my most favorite contemporary Catholic composers:)

Have you looked on any Napster-esque type engines? :)

Personally, my favorite is "Amazing Grace." :) Non-Christmas favorite, I mean. Christmas-like, I like... "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" and "Silent Night".... all those good songs. *sigh*

My favorite has always been "All things Bright and Beautiful". My favorite part of church was always the singing... I was in the youth choir as well as the regular sunday service choir.

When I look at the lyrics of this song, however, it makes me think that I've been pagan all along. :) Here you go:

All Things Bright And Beautiful
lyrics by Cecil Frances Alexander 1832-1895, alt.
music adapted from a Danish folk song

Each little flow'r that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

Yes, all things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
And all things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

The purple headed mountains,
The river running by,
The sunset and the morning
That brightens up the sky.

Yes, all things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
And all things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

The cold wind in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden--
God made them every one.

Yes, all things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
And all things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The flowers by the water
We gather every day.

Yes, all things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
And all things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who doeth all things well.

Yes, all things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
And all things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Thanks EP that's going in my book.

Thanks for the memories Rae! :D That was one of my favorite songs in church too! When you mentioned it, it immediately brought back the memory the way the choir used to sing it. thanks for the lyrics too.
