I'm such an idiot. I was stupid enough not to post this thing here. My question is:

Is it true that the most powerful witches are born on a full moon?

I believe that everyone has equal power/magickal abilities within them but maybe people born on the full moon have an easier time calling on and controlling this power, ya know?

I have never come across any information to support such.

nope, not an idiot :) i have never heard anything about one having more or less power, I believe we all have an equal amount, but some are more attuned to the powers within than others

Witchcraft, in my small amount of experience, is more about what you put into it than what was already put into you. Sort of the same premis as the fact that a "spiritual attack" cannot harm you unless you beleive it will. Belief is what gives the Craft its power.

By that logic a person born on Easter or Christmas would be a better Christian, and a person born on Passover or Hannakuh would be a better Jew?

Is it true that the most powerful witches are born on a full moon?Yes.
Although I think this is a reference to a mythological witch.
In Puglia for instance, where my family is from, it is believed that a girl born under the full moon will become a strega - a type of witch which sucks the blood of children. A Calabrese legend holds that a child born on the full moon will be cursed as a werewolf. Then there is the Sicilian mamm'adraia which is is hydra-type monster.
Ok, that's enough south Italian moonlore for one evening... I'm gettin' the creeps.

I don't know if that's true or not, personall I'd put it down to folklore. I read somewhere that most people are born under a full moon, I'm not sure if that's true and I can't remember where I read it.

Maybe we should do a poll to see how many people in MW were born during the full moon.

One has already been done here is the link. (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=40095&highlight=moon+phase+born)

I personally don't believe someone born under a full moon would be a more powerful witch. I don't see how it could possibly have an effect.

I figured that when I heard of this superstition that it must have been this exact thing. That people born on the full moon may be more inclined to accessing their intuition/psychic gifts.

I guess at the time I didn't believe it the way she did and so I never even thought to ask. :awwman:

I'm not so sure that even being born on a full moon will make it easier to discover whatever power you have. I do have to point out that theories like this I am very very skeptical of, because to me, everybody has the ability and I think that being able to tap into it quicker or better than someone else has more to do with one's understanding, upbringing and attitude rather than what moon phase or anything else you were born under.

I also have never heard such a thing. Everyone is born with power. Some people chose to use it and use their own power in different ways The Christian the Jew The Witch The Voodoo Princess ect. Others chose to ignore it.
I have no idea whether I was born on the full moon but my path led here and I continue to follow it. As I follow it I feel myself getting stronger. I doubt it will stop at some point because I was or was not born on a certain day.

I don't believe that. 'Power' is something you have to work at, not something that just lands on you.

But it is true that the coolest Witches are born in the couple of days immediately following a full moon. ;) :D

So then what would be the theory regarding someone born on a New Moon??

You know, what I was getting at is that there are so many factors to magical power... Like others have pointed out here, it's a skill that needs to be developed and trained. Even if someone is born with a certain gift, maybe more talented than others, they'd have to learn how to harness and use it. And then it is VERY hard to determine who has more talent than another, because they might just not have discovered it yet... and magical power comes in many shapes and sizes, someone might be better in a different area of magic...

So many factors - I don't think anyone can or has the right to determine just how 'powerful' someone is. It's not something you can measure with a ruler, or on the Richter scale!

Just my two cents.

Hugs!!

A lot of people are born under a full moon. I was born under a new moon. I don't know what that means.

I don't know about that. I know there are people who are convinced it makes a difference...me I think that power comes from experience and practice. It's not a matter of inborn power. To me magic is the manipulation and control of energy towards a specific goal or purpose. You can choose to use your own personal energy, or external energy sources, but in the end it's the same thing. I don't believe that the moon controls the amount of life energy a person has, and so it doesn't control how "powerful" a person is. For what is power to begin with.....knowledge. You can have all the energy in the world and it means nothing....without the knowledge of how to use it. :D

My take on this is, even though I know very little about astrology, I belive the planets positions at the time of our birth affect us throughout this life, especially personality-wise (sp?). But as far as power goes, everything and everyone to me has power, but we are all "specialists" in different areas so that there will always be a balance. eg: I am strong with fire and water elements when working spells, when it comes to air and earth, Its a dud. But that ( to me ) doesn't mean I'm not powerful. It means that I've found my "specialty" (and it's not working with air and earth, lol). But it could be different for you. Sorry this example sucks, but I'm kinda tired and don't feel like rattling my brain just yet. :)

I think some may only wish that being born under a full moon enhances there power so they can say to others that they are more powerful, it might just be the classic argument of

im better then you
no
yes
no
yes
no
yes

etc etc.
but thats only my 2 cents

If you don't know what the moon phase was when you were born, you can look it up on the chart at http://wise-obs.tau.ac.il/~eran/Sky/MoonPhase.html where they list the phases from 1950 through to 2060.

I'm not convinced there is enough of a majority of full-moon babies here for the claim that witches are full-moon babies to be accurate. (I'm a new moon baby myself, and I don't think I'm any less powerful as a witch than anyone else I know.)
