Didn't think pure evil exsisted?
Well it does...and I am it!
I'm a...DUN DUN DUN...telemarketer!
Alright...so I'm not an actual telemarketer, but I'm close enough. I'm a surveyist, and I hate my job.
I call people all day long making them angry, I turn the sweetest little old ladies into screaming scary people who demand I go straight back to hell where I came from.
:bastard:
I get people who sweetly say, "Just one moment" then procede to either scream into the phone in a high pitched voice, bang there phone against the wall, or use a horn or whistle next to the receiver.
I wonder if I'll get workman's comp for when I lose an eardrum to some of things people do.
So I was thinking...the next time you pick up your phone and it's "one of us" calling please, please, be nice. Just say, No Thankyou. That's all it takes and we'll hang up and if you ask to be taken off the call list we'll take you off if you're nice. That...and the fact that I work with a large group of stalkers. I see people write down phone numbers, names, addresses...all kinds of information that we get with our call lists. What they do with that stuff I don't know...I just know people get on there "lists" because they are rude or mean.
So, on behalf of all the evil that are telemarketers and surveyists, I apolgize and ask that please, please, just say No Thankyou!

Glad to know I'm not alone. I understand people get annoyed when the get called at inconvenient times by inconvenient people...but we need to eat too. At $7.50 and being a broke college student this is the highest paying job I can get. Trust me, I've looked high and low for something better paying.

I can't be mean, my mom is one of "those" people too.
It's also a minimum wage, thankless and depressing job.
Mom tells meets to talk to people who can't speak english vry well and they almost alwyas tell her that "I am not interesting. Thank you."
I think the worst ones she gets are when the call list is outdated and she calls for someone who has passed away. It makes her feel horrible and the bosses don't really care, just get the count so the clients are happy.

Hmmm, i wish it was that easy. I once had a double glazing window company ring me all the time asking if i was interested in buying their windows, the first time i did nicely say no thanks, but then they kept calling me every week and still i said 'No thank you', after further phone calls from them i started to feel really irate and in the end i had to report them to trading standards and also British Telecom, they then stopped ringing me much to my joy!

Telemarketers are worse then surveyists I think, but I'm not sure. I know if you say no thankyou to us we HAVE to put you on a initial refusal list, and if you ask to be removed from the list we take you directly off.

Oh I hate those calls the most, the lists are always outdated! I hate it too, becaue we can't just take the number off out list we have to put it back in as deceased and then we have to ask for the member who isn't dead next time the number comes up...ugh I hate it. It's rude and I had some man break down crying the other day because he wife had died a few days earlier and that's who I had asked to talk too.

I have been a telemarketer, I have been a surveyist, and now I am an alarm operator. I work from 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM. I understand where you are coming from completely!!!!!!!!!!
My sympathies. I suggest having a very thick skin and keeping the volume on your phone low.You can turn it up if the person wants to do the surevy but until then I kept it nice and low.
Now, people just plain amaze me. I had a company that had fire alarms all over the place. They were all going off. I kept on calling the fire department and calling him. The alarm was going back and forth between my neighbors screen and mine. The customer was throwing a fit about all of the calls. The last call that he got was to inform him that the fire department had called us back. The reason why so many of his alarms were going off was because his heater had malfunctioned, exploded, and his building was full of black smoke. He still yelled at my neighbor as she explained this to him.
I have had a police department thro0w an absolute hissy fit abotu a burglar alarm that was going off multiple times. Normally I understand this. False alarms are a HUGE problem. The issue with this particular alarm was that it was the police department's training academy.

I work as a customer service rep for a huge company, and eventhough people are calling me for help they still scream at me everyday. So I'd like to add to the not screaming at telemarketers...please don't scream at those of us that have to book technicians for a week away..I swear we don't make you wait on purpose.

In college, my roommate answered the phone in our dorm room, and mouthed "marketer" to me silently once he realized who it was. He said to the marketer "No, you can't, he's dead." He winks, pausing while the marketer stammers an apology. Then he cheerfully replies "No, no, it's all right, he was a real sonuvab*tch. Yeah. Sure thing. Bye." I about died laughing.
He was very polite, but that was still evil, wasn't it? ;)

I usually just push the off button if they don't say who they are as soon as I pick up, or if I don't know them, or their number, or if it says not available. People who take their anger out on the caller are stupid.

I, too, am on the no-call list. So far, it has seemed to work. I do continue to get calls from people like Prevent Blindness, AmVets, etc, and that's okay, because I like to donate to them.
But when I used to get the others, I would interrupt with a No Thank You and hang up.

Do not call list doesn't apply to my job. You can be on all the do not call lists you want and we'll still call you and the law can't touch us. It's because we're not selling anything and the law only applies to solicitators and telemarketers. Ugh...I've had to explain that one too many times!

Then you would get interrupted politely and told No Thank You and hung up on. I've trained my kids to do the same. Although maybe I should change that to No Thank You Please Remove My Name From Your List, instead!

Regardless of what you say, you're still going to get pitched. At my company we avoid that as much as possible. We final pitch, then tell you good bye and then if you are stil persistent, we make you hold and then let you speak tto a supervisor. Yeah, my job sux.

How can you be persistent with me when I've hung up? I hang up after I speak my sentence even if you continue talking. Sorry, but that's just the way I do it. I'm not rude and I don't slam the phone down. If you go to get a supervisor, I won't be on the other end.

I used to say "No thank you, please remove my name from your telemarket listing", but I don't have to anymore. I don't have a land line anymore, just a cell phone.
I can remember only a couple who were really persistant and annoying. One was selling storm windows and I told him that my husband had just suffered a heart attack and wasn't working so we couldn't afford any storm windows even if we wanted them, which we didn't thank you anyway. But, he says, installment plan, discount, they're right in your neighborhood and can give you a free estimate. He just wouldn't take no for an answer. I asked for his supervisor and then he hung up. I called information to get the phone number for the company, called and reported the creep. I'm not afraid to be rude on the phone, but only as a last resort.

Ah... Surveyist... Not *quite* as bad as telemarketers, the bane of existance.
I found an easy way around both -- They don't call cell phones ... (I guess the wireless companies yell at them or something?) .. so now I just have my cell phone and not a normal land phone. Haven't gotten a single call I didn't want since I dropped my land line...
Well, I get them at work still... Depending on my personal mood (dealing with people screaming at -me- all day) ... I'll go from "No thanks, take us off your list." to playing games with the person... I don't ever see any point in -yelling- at them... but it sure can be fun to play games ;-) .

Thats what our supervisors prefer. They would rather you hang up than to have to take you off the list. Thats just how screwed up this company is.

Hehe, I can actually appreciate when people play games with me. Like one guy said he was busy ******* a girl (you can guess what he said) and my response was, Really? And you answered the phone? Geez is it that bad?
If you play games, I play games right back. I think it makes things more entertaining on both sides.

I had one of those people call me not too long ago, about an hour ago. I couldn't understand the man with his deep accent but it had to do with parenting(survey). I told him I was busy and he asked "May I speak to your mom or dad" I told him "haha, I am the MOM".
I really wanted to tell him "yes you can speak to my mom, but she is at home right now, can I have your number and have her call you back?" haha.
Husband was a tellemarkter and he ended up quitting cus they were teaching everyone how to con people into getting costomers credit card numbers! after he walked out so did about 5 others. They shut down. Here in Oregon is illegal to have tellemarkters :) I dont mind them so much when they understand teh word "no" but when I have to say "no" 10000000 times is when I get a little pissy and tell them to.......

I'm happy to see that no one here prefers screeching when "no thank you" will do.
I remember an incident at the office last year, all the phones started ringing and all of them were telemarketers from the same company. Apparently their call list was made up of every possible number sequence in the area. The person I talked with was nice enough to wait for me to give her our range and within five minutes all the calls stopped. Not bad when they had to dump 3000 numbers.
