Has anyone heard of the Ar Afalon Tradition? Or do you know any members?
Please let me know.

yes, I heard of it. It's a New Age movement, and it's sort of small. "Afalon" is a made up word, I should have you know. They pretend to be Welsh, but they are really really really NOT. The word for Avalon, as presented in the "Mabingion", is "annwn" or "annfn", the latter being the LEAST popular.
I've only looked at this group from a far and prejudical view... if anyone can give futher insights I'm still listening.

There is a thread near the bottom of the page with a great deal of information on the Ar Afalon tradition. (I don't know how to link... I'm sorry!)

In that thread a "Priestess of Avalon" posted...
Why did I put that in quotes? Well cause in my tradition, Avalon aka Annwn, is the dwelling place of the Angels (whom you might calls gods). However, above Annwn sits Dôn, and the concept of the male - female duality.

I am the person who posted about Ar Afalon, as I am a member of the trad. I consider myself a Priestess of Avalon on a personal level. As for Ar Afalon....
We do not classify ourselves as "New Age" movement, but a Pagan tradition. I would prefer that you, Charles, who seems to be so dedicated to research and study, inquire more about what the truth is before you make a judement or profess to know anything about a trad that you are not associated with.
In my tradition, I am called a Page. That denotes my amount of training in the trad. I have been training in this tradition for 2 years, and have worked though the Gateway (intro) and First Triad courses. I have just begun my Second Triad training.
The tradition itself is very small at the moment, we have only 5 people who have completed their First Triad training, and one founding mother left of the four who began the trad in 2001. We have a group of 17 people in the current Gateway class.
Afalon was chosen so that if you speak the name of the tradition out loud it sounds like "Our Avalon"--that is exactly what it is--the view of Avalon within this tradition. No one has claimed to be Welsh, nor are out teachings Welsh in nature. Our tradition is Avalonian/Arthurian. We work with deity in the Welsh, Irish, and general Celtic pantheon.
Our teachings base around the idea that Avalon is another name for the Celtic Otherworld (also known as Annwn), and that the mythos of Arthur and the court of Camelot are reflection of the Gods of that time. There are many correlations between the myths and the characters. We honor both male and female duality in Ar Afalon.
The tradition was founded by four women, one who is training with ADF and another who was trained in a family tradition of Irish Witchcraft. The other two founding mothers left shortly after I started my training, and I did not get to know them very well.
I am the Members Advisor, and if anyone would like more information on the trad they are more than welcome to PM me.

Avalon's Blessings, ~Rhiannon Why thank you, oh gracious lady of slander. I'll have you know that in Welsh, the word for "and" is "a", except before a vowel, in which case it appears as "ar"; which is one indicator to me that someone was thinking Welsh in conjuring this name. Furthermore, in Welsh, the English "v" sound is produced by an "f"; thus I presumed the "f" was substituted for the "v" in the word "Afalon". With all due respect, to me, "Ar Afalon" means "And Avalon".
En second lieu, I have read about your tradition on Witchvox. And I am proud to send you my most honourable blessings.
However, in my opinion, if your tradition is named "Ar Afalon" because it sounds like "Our Avalon" whilst you are trying to reconstruct and rejuvenate Celtic traditions, it is puzzling to me, why you have named your tradition in pesant's speak of English, which is most certainly not a Celtic language.
Please forgive me for no "seeking the truth", oh lady of slander.

Why thank you, oh gracious lady of slander.
Having read RhiannonSolana's I see nothing in it that could be construde as slander (slander being "1. Law. Oral communication of false statements injurious to a person's reputation. 2.A false and malicious statement or report about someone.")

All I can give you is the knowledge of the trad that I have. As for the name, that was the explaination of it as I was given in my training. Nothing more, nothing less.
Thank you for the information, I will be sure to pass that along to Lady Calliean. It is her decision as to what is done with it.

Yeah, really it doesn't matter... Ar Afalon is a cool name, and it is meaningful.
Best of blessings!

actually because she gave you negative karma in private is not an injury to your reputation, because up until you made it public only she and you knew.

Since I, nor anyone else in the general WM population, can view your Karma I cannot see how it would be slander if I chose to react by taking away any. You say I am slanderous, when I was more than content to keep this in a PM conversation, while you go about airing it as though I am a terrible person. Slanderous, indeed.
I felt very warranted in taking away your Karma. I felt attacked on a personal level by your comments regarding my tradition and spirituality. Your use of quotes around my title implies that it is somehow not valid, while within my own tradition it is.
The message you left me, which is not for public viewing, is definately not helping me feel any better about putting this behind us.
However, the time has come to do so.

heyy... :hahugh: look honey, I really really don't understand why this isn't in pm, but anyway... I used quotes, back up there simply because I was quoting the name of the Tradition. I in no way meant to slander it. I didn't mean to attack you, but I was just a little offside. I mean your sig-img is reminisent of the movie Mists of Avalon, which um is a lot of mixing of different stories true and false. I was just trying to say that your tradition has a funky name, that appeared to be Welsh to me, but was of incorrect usage... so I thought it to be something fabriqueated by someone of minimal knowledge -- and now I know it is not so. Especially since you are a Celtic (incl. Welsh) deity honouring group, I was very sure that the tradition was named in Welsh. Forgive me. I mean you no harm, angst, hatred, or wrong of any sort.
Be you blessed.

My sig image is imply a picture that is beautiful to me. Yes, "Mists" was my first exposure to Avalon, but my views are not that of the book, which I've stated here. It would be better for you, and your Karma, if you stopped making assumptions like you did about the name of my trad--just my two cents. From my side, it certainly looked and felt like an attack, and I responded in kind. I will not apologize for my actions.
It appears to me that things have been cleared up, and with that I'd like to have the whole thing dropped. There is no use in dragging it out any more. I forgive you, and wish you always....
