If he doesn't believe it will work ...it won't
It's energy work and you can understand it from a book but you can not learn or be opened yourself from a book...
Does it work...I have a lot of people who come see me for treatment and tell me it's better then advil...I combine Reiki with massage because I feel human touch is a huge boost to healing.

*nods* Exactly.
I have my level II and I know I can see a difference in things when I use it. My hubby calls it my ugga bugga hocus pocus- and tells all of his freinds he has no clue how it works, but it does. :p
Do you have any specific questions I can answer?

It's funny because I think most of the people who have asked for the treatment came with the thought they would give it a try but were convinced it wouldn't work...then were absolutley amazed at the results..
I was currently on my way to getting my Master but I moved to a new province...I have to find a new instuctor now.

No, reiki is not a religion. But you do have to believe and understand that everything around us is made up of energy. It's also helpful to believe in a higher power :D. Reiki is a means of tapping into that energy and acting as a conduit. You allow the energy to flow thru you and thru your hands:)

From what I know, ( very little, btw ) reiki can be used by and for anyone nomatter their faith.

thats right it can be but many churches would feel and have said that it's tapping into Satan...I know cause I was called on it...reason number 57 why I left my church...They didn't like the whole witch thing either.
Reiki is energy work...the person giving is a conduit and director so to speak. If your energy is messed up we clean it up...sometimes we change the energy as well...
If you get treatment or get training makesure it's real...I have already seen one site where they claim if you stare at a picture thats there you will be know reiki and be at a Master level....AHHHHHhhhh that adds to the belief that it might be hokey.

*shameless plug* http://www.arpg.org/ I don't have a *ton* of info up, but I do have some basics =).
As to reiki not working ...
General rule -- Hands On, Reiki On ; Hands Off, Reiki Off ... However... he most certainly can stop it from coming out by refusing to believe it's working ... It's like closing the door to the Reiki hallway.

I agree with hands on however many practise hands off especially for distant healing...I do know that hands off does work just not as well..at least not for me.

As a Reiki Master in a couple of different modalities, I can attest to the validity of Reiki as a holistic healing tool. Personally, I think even if someone does not believe, they can and will still benefit from getting Reiki, it just won't be admitted by them.
BTW, my husband calls it the woo woo and also agrees that it works despite him not knowing how. I know it works b/c I can *feel* the energy coursing through my hands when I am working on someone.
Ido have a question... if your Dad learned Reiki, how does he come to the conclusion that it does not work? Personally, I have spent a great deal of time honing my skills and there is no way I would spend that kind of time on project then announce that it did not work. Just wondered what the explanation would be...

Hmm, strange, I don't see any reason why distance healing would be -less- ... perhaps not as focused? /shrug .. kind of off topic... kind of.

Hmmmm... I spent a lot of time on the Mountain where Reiki was invented (and if you ever get the opportunity to go to Mt Kurama ... do so it is one of the most beautiful and powerful places I've ever been to in my life ^O^) and since then I've been rather curious about it. Any chance one of our Reiki practitioners would be willing to run an Intro class here? XD

It seems to me like he shut himself away from all other religion after he started praying to a buddha which originated from japan. He also thinks wicca and paganism attract negativity.
