After 5 years of being a Make a Wish kid (I’m almost 20) and none of my previous wishes working out...I’m going to Scotland :woot:. It was between Scotland and Greece…Scotland won. I was meditating on it and Scotland was pretty loud. I’m going with my mother sometime next year.

Make a Wish wants specifics on what I want to do while there…that’s where I need help.

What are some good places to visit? What are some good things to do while there?

What’s the shopping like? Are there any shops that are more new age?

I heard somewhere they do a Beltane festival but I’m not sure. If they do when and where?

That’s all I can think of right now.

Thanks

The Beltane Fire Festival is held on 30 April on Carlton Hill in Edinburgh. It has 300 performers who dance, play with fire and reenact scenes from Celtic mythology. It's quite a big event and is changing quite a lot at the moment. It was banned by local authorities in 2003 due to worries over crowd control and safety concerns as it is getting more and more popular. This year it was a ticketed event. It's not as good as in past years as a lot more people are turning up just for the spectator rather than spiritual value. Still worth a look though.

Edinburgh is a fantastic city with loads to do for tourists. There's the castle, city dungeons, loads of city tours, ghost tours, theatres, museums, galleries. It also has a brilliant nightlife. Both old and new parts of the city are really good for shopping with a lot of unique and alternative shops. I've never heard anyone say a bad word about Edinburgh. Through the summer the festival is on and is really good but the city is packed and expensive to stay in. On New Years Eve they celebrate the Scottish festival of Hogmanay and have a big street party. They even freeze the grass in the park in the city centre and have ice skating. Basically it's good any time of year.

That really depends on what your interests are. Nature, history, nightlife, meditation ... it really all depends.

This is a whole country .. it depends on where you go. But yes there are, again it depends on your interests.

1 May, its a public holiday along with 1 August 1 November and 1 February (sound familiar?) These used to be the quarterly rent days in Scotland too.

*Rain*: I found that very helpful...thank you :)

Nantonos: I don't get out much so pretty much anything that doesn't involve a hospital. The history and mythology probably intrigues me the most...then there's the architecture. I have a fondness for the fae. My mom has to go to loch ness.
