I've never been real big on actively going out and searching for witchy stuff. I like to be surprised and simply find something one day when I wasn't looking. I have a few great finds.
When I was in college, they used to have a flea market every Wednesday on one of the streets of the campus. I always went to see the bookseller. One day, he had this great plaque of a green man. It was only 5 bucks! But I didn't have it (poor college student). But I went back next week and it was still there. This time I had the money. It was meant to be mine.
Another time, I found a finger puppet of Kali at a comic book shop. It's sooo cute.
What's your best unexpected witchy find?

Several years ago while selling at Englishtown Auction in NJ my wife found a 100 year old crystal ball. It had belonged to a Foture Teller that had passed on. The Crystal ball was apart of her estate sale. It costed us $40.00 and is the size of a large grapefruit. :)
Last year I found a Brass Punch bowl set that looks like a Large Chalise. The beer mug type cups I gave away and use the Chalise type bowl as an offering bowl. Cost $5.00 dollars.
I have found so much though the years I cann't remember them all. As I do I will add them :)

Other than finding all of you.....at Mystic Wicks
I found my cauldron at an auction and it only cost me 5 bucks.....she can hold at least a gallon and a half. I am so glad that I found her.
I also found a great wholesaler....who can sell me all sizes of cauldrons at a very good price. If any of you are in search of one.....they will be in my store...once it is opened.

I have a HUGE cauldron that my husband traded work for...I think it's a 12-gallon size.
Lots of flea market finds over the years, but the cauldron is the most memorable.

I found an incredible, really old (I'd say 50+ years old) BROOM awhile back at a flea market.
I was so surprised when I noticed it.....and my expression clear as the nose on your face...lol. The lady behind the table said "ooo, you like my broom?" "Yessssss!!" I crroooned. I asked her how much she wanted for it and nearly fainted when she looked at it and said "How about $40?"
Needless to say - I was in my wallet faster than you can spit!
The wonderful, old broom was cleansed and dedicated and resides quite beautifully now along side my fireplace. Where it took up residence for peace, prosperity and provides a lovely Home Blessing to our home now.
I've been collecting "witchy" items since 1981 - but I think this Besom is by far my best find (not to mention least expensive good find) in all these many years.
Just meant to be mine and bless our home - eh?
fun question
cheers

My athame - I found it at a flea market. It was on a table full of mostly army-surplus type things - stuff that I am not usually interested in. But for some reason I walked over to the table, and there it was: its got a gold sheath, a beautiful red tassle on the handle, and egyptian heiroglyphs on the blade. And it was 12 bucks :D

My best find... my naturally mummified toad. Found it in an empty watering can a few years back. It is so perfectly preserved by Nature that you can see every little toe and even its eyelids.

Probably when my Nanny learned I was interested in Paganism and gave me some old candle holders to start with. They were five-pointed stars - she didn't even realize how perfect they were until I told her.

A pair of carved wooden candlesticks, they are kind of spiral like, I got them at an estate sale for $4. A friend of mine suggested I go to look at the swords that were there and i didnt make it til the next day when the sale was almost over. The woman who sold them to me was very suprised that they were still there she said alot of people had looked at them and she thought that someone already bought them but after checking with her husband she said that they had changed their mind. I was so shocked and bought them right away it was like they were just waiting for me.

I found my brass-ish stag and doe candleholders at a thrift shop for cheap. They were just *perfect* for my altar.
Then a short time later, I found a taller metal (steel?) rearing stag statue guy, who was even perfecter for a God representation... Not as cheap, but too perfect to pass up.
I also found a rock at the beach one day that reminded me of a lingam stone- just the right shape.
But I think the coolest thing was when I found a little wooden cup that had vines woodburned onto it in a box in my own basement. :D Hubby had done the woodburning back when he was in scouts, and let me have it for my altar. It holds my salt. :hugz:

I found these little dish type things at 3rd St Bazaar in NYC. They were really cheap and are really cute. I actually think they might be soy sauce holders for sushi. They are turquoise and I use them for holding salt & water on my altar.

Mine were more or less supply finds. normaly it's hard to come by things like incense burners and aroma burners but now it seems as though my local dollar store has started there own mini metaphysical section...or at least has a pagan in there midst because there now stocking a funny amount of candles, Essential oils (10%), incence burners and the like.

Mine is an old wooden coffee table that my sister-in-law was going to throw out but I rescued it and use it as my altar. It's a rectangular shape with a drawer on each end that I keep my incense, candles and other sundry supplies in, and flaps on the front and back that I can put up if I need more room for readings and such.
I haven't been lucky enough to come across any of those legendary flea market or thrift shop find though - yet!

My best free find was a unique table raw cut from a tree. The top is shaped like a fish and the legs (made of logs) make it look like a fish with feet. It lives in my flower garden and serves usually as an altar, but sometimes a bench.
My best find was at a garage sale, I found a very nice replica longsword with a leather sheath for
20$. I have an afinity for knives and tend to hoard them whenever possible, LOL.

I found my altar at Lowe's (a home depot-like store). I had picked up what I came for - something to do with plumbing, I believe - and was just walking around, when I saw an unfinished table the exact height and size I was looking for. And, it's real wood, not particle-board or whatever.

My Athame was a Goddess Gift before I even knew it I was going to follow her path. One day, I was walking beside a lake when I came across this old rusty Bowie knife with a pretty beaten up wooden handle. I picked it up, took it home and cleaned it up. I made a sheath and carried it around everywhere... even places I wasn't supposed to. It is, I suppose, a somewhat bizzare Athame, but who can argue with the Goddess when she gives you something.

My cauldron, which I found when going through some really old stuff mum was going to throw out. And my athame, which was a pretty letter opener my dad had but didn't want. And my chalice, which I found in a cupboard full of junk at our holiday house. All brilliant finds :)
