View Full Version : Titles under our names

Can anybody tell me what the titles under our names mean? From reading an earlier post I found out that neophyte is someone with less than 30 posts. Is there a list?
richardcranium

I also found out while editing my profile that I can make up my own title. Is that OK or should the "site god" determine that for me? <lol>

Hey look! I am not a neophyte anymore! I have another question. What is a zelator?
eaglewolf
February 25th, 2001, 02:47 AM
LOL! It is the next stage of initiation of the Golden Dawn just after Neophyte... it is the same thing as a zealot I think...
Being a zealot means you are committed...
I know it doesn't help, but that is all I know.

"There can be only one!"
A great quote from a great movie.
Well, ew explained everything just fine. And I have made this option only for staff to be able to have a different name than the classes related to posting...but it looks like when I upgraded the system last Friday I left the option for everyone to change their title. :(
But, since everyone is having fun with it...I will just leave it. If you want to change your title...then go for it. I originally did it so you could tell who was staff and who wasnt so if you had questions you could ask. But, hey, we are all family here...and everyone pretty much knows who is staff. So, change if you Will and make sure all new visitors know who the staff members are so they can get help when they need it.

I could tell who were staffer's by the main page where you select which forum you want to enter. It tells who moderates the "room", forum, whatever you want to call it. So, when I'm in the Green Room, I would direct ?? to EW, and when I'm in the Tarot Room, I would direct ?? to Semele.

...but the idea is to be able to grab a staff member on the spot if it is possible... that way you get immediate attention if needed.
Some of the moderators have made a few posts and never returned, so emailing them or asking them for help would be pointless (I think)...

Yah...I dont think it will be a problem...hopefully.
I just dont want to take anything away...and since i left that option in...I would feel bad by taking it away from the handful of people who have taken on new titles.

Yes it is possible to change the title under your name as you see by mine and my wife's (Yvonne Thomas); but first you have to make it out of the neophyte chair. After you are no longer a neophyte you can go to your profile, click on edit profile, and type in a new title under the new custom user identity field that you will see (but it needs to be 25 characters or less).

WoW! I didn't know my tag line would create such chaos :D.
You guys are having far too much fun for me to spoil it now!
Did someone mention sailing? Yes, you are on the right track, but do not translate Levant... (hence the capital) as in a proper name
You guys are still trying to translate is literally, which will not make any sense...
"ranch hand" may translate as such, but does not mean "the terminal part of the human arm located below the forearm, of a ranch" ...
Does that help? No? Want to know the kicker?
Even if you translate it, it actually means something else (as in the above example) and on top of that, without the history behind the saying, even figuring out that meaning will not make any sense.
...if you REALLY want to know...
Perhaps you could research it from a historical standpoint, rather than trying to translate it ;)
...learn now, hate me for it later...

Hi all!
I don't speak any french. But the Levant is a name that used to be used for the Middle East by Europeans..Places like Israel,Lebanon, and Syria. It was considered an exotic place where one could get goods from the Orient.Things like spices and silk.

Now we are on the right track. The Levant was a name used for the eastern Mediterranean countries...
...it was an exotic place where one could go, not only to purchase goods, but to "escape" their lives. They could hide out, so to speak, temporarily or in some cases permanently (kind of like heading down to Mexico for those of us in America).
In relation to my tag line, Levant is refered to as a place of temporary escape from my life...
"Sail into the Levant"
I mentioned an alternate meaning, but that is for me to know ;) (unless you do the research and figure it out of course). It is deeper and much more personal, so I will leave it at that...
~ew, sailing into the Levant~

that reminds me of a time, many years ago, just after i got out of the corps, i was a "free lance military advisor" for a while. once while back in the states between jobs i shared quarters with some friends in the same trade. one afternoon while we were pulling maintenence on our gear came a knock on the door. "we're from the watchtower bible and tract society, may we speak to you?"
we were polite, we invited them to sit down and offered them a beer and asked if they didn't mind if we continued our work. about the time i finished assembling a sten gun, pulled the trigger and the bolt went home with a "clank!!" they decided god had urgent business for them elsewhere.

When I was in grad school I lived in a student housing project called West Campus and JW's used to pester me a lot. And they are not even supposed to "solicit" from door to door without an appointment because it was a gov't housing thing. (This will be sort of important later.)
Anyway, one fine Sunday afternoon I answered the door wearing a small silver pentacle, that's all, just a small silver pentacle. I invited them in, but they just wouldn't come into the apartment. They also never reported me to the housing office.
I was never bothered again while living there. Now I just answer the door with my shirt off and they get an eyeful of the tattoo on my right shoulder. The tattoo can be seen at http://www.bluecatsden.com/tattoo.html and it usually gives them the message. If that fails I have a sign in my living room that says "Taste Religion, Lick A Witch."
Life is good.

I hate to say this but my ex helped add to our bad reputation. This was before we met but he used to look see who it was grab a robe he kept at the door and then open it. It was almost always morman missionaries because he lived in Salt Lake City. He would peer at their name tags and go "mormans right?" "Hey you guys are virgins!" Then he would yell at the back of the house "Hey guys it's time the sacrifices are here!" Funny but he didn't get many missionaries of any faith. It kind of bothers me because of the propaganda about us but in some ways it was funny too. Gunner I like what you guys did that sounds like fun! :D
