first of all, incase people don't know, prayer beads are what rosaries are called in just about every non-judeochristian religion. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew of a physical store in Seattle Washington where I could get a nice set of prayer beads? the place I normally frequent carries stuff that I really consider an insult and overcommercialisation of religion, *cough*glow in the dark prayer beads*cough, cough*. I'm not looking for some 200 dollar set of prayer beads, just something a bit nicer than a set of plastic, glow in the dark ones.

You know what? You could actually go to a Christian store even and buy a set of rosarie beads and maybe take off the cross if it bothers you. Or you could go to a craft store and buy some nice wooden beads and quality string and make own yourself. I actually think if you make it yourself, it would be much nicer and your energies will already be in it.

Ebay. You'll find prayer beads in a lot of different configurations.

Also, they aren't just called prayer beads. Hindus and Buddhists call them Malas, Muslims have a specific name as well, though I can't remember it at the moment. Anglicans call them rosaries as well, though there configuration is slightly different. And Catholics only call the rosaries when you pray THE rosary on them. Otherwise they are called chaplets.

If you'd like info on prayer beads, ask me, I have lots as I collect them.

i've always found prayer beads fascinating. i'd be more inclined to make my own rather than buy them, but whatever takes your fancy. Apparently i took a liking to them when i was a very young child, though i've never owned any. I just thought they looked pretty (talking mainly about the 'rosary' ones -- i was raised christian)

There's a couple of metaphysical shops near Pike Place... at least there was last time I looked.

You can also make them!!!!

If you did want to make them yourself you can buy appropriate sized beads from a beading/craft shop. You can buy anything from bone, wood, plastic, glass work or semi percious stone. I bet hemetite would be good for prayer beads.

I have a hematite rosary ...it's "our father" beads are emerald green crystals...it's really lovely, though it's also really heavy :)

And the hematite always feels nice and cool to the touch.

I have a rosary that is ALL hematite. Even the crucifix is hematite. And yup, it's heavy. But sometimes it feels comforting to have that heaviness.
