The return of the White Buffalo is a sign that peace can be returned to the world. Many years ago there were a spurt of newspaper, magazine articles and TV stories on the birth of a White Buffalo in Montana. I saw them, like everyone else. I never thought I would actual be able to stand and watch the living animal, much less several of them.

We took a different route to Grand Canyon this summer and my wife spotted a sign. I thought it was another "let's soak the Easterners" tourist trap. We were in Arizona. Nevertheless, it was real and I knew it the minute I pulled onto the parking lot...just felt it.

Like hundreds before me I left the gift of a personal item on the fence.

I believe the first white buffalo calf you’re referring to PaganFiles was Born in August of 1994 .. her owner’s named her Miracle and Many believe that she symbolizes the coming together of humanity, into a oneness of heart, mind, and spirit.
A symbol of hope, rebirth, and unity for all peoples, everywhere.

But most especially the white buffalo is held scared in the hearts of the Great Sioux Nations.

Floyd Hand, who is a Sioux Elder, as well as a medicine man from the Pine Ridge rez in South Dakota … was one of the first to make a pilgrimage to see “Miracle”
He said of her birth …
"The arrival of the white buffalo is like the second coming of Christ, …. It will bring about purity of mind, body and spirit, and unify all nations, black, red, yellow, and white."

(So Mote It Be!!)

You know … I’m betting that there are many here in MW who no doubt, already know the legend of the White Buffalo Calf … and of the White Buffalo Calf Woman … but maybe, there are many who do not.

I’m sure that either you Pagan Files .. or Nighthawk, or Shatril can tell the story probably better then I …
But if you like … I’d be more then happy to write up a short version.

LmaoOOOooo *thinking* … it’s probably got a million and one different versions.
Depending one what Nation is doing the telling.

Thanks for sharing the piccies Pagan Files …. What a wonderful experience that must have been for you.

Dove,

Tell it......in your words. The thinking and telling is learning in itself. I would know how the the tale's way and emphasis changes through a new mind. Start a new thread for the telling.

The last I'd heard about White Buffalo was that it had escaped and a state trooper shot it to death because he thought it posed a danger to the people around. I heard that this horrible occurrence presaged a time of great suffering and despair, too.

Here's the story: http://jassekhmet.tripod.com/whitebuffalo.htm

Miracle, the white buffalo in Janesville Wisconsin, has moved on to making its own children. Miracle did turn brown and all its children are normal colored. Miracle turns 10 years old August 20 and she is expecting a calf that may be born on or near her own birthday. There will be cerimonies on Miracles birthday. Shanti,

Oh boy! How this post brought me down.....not your fault. I first went to your link then grubbed up some of the info I got in Arizona and found their URL http://www.sacredwhitebuffalo.org/
Neither Organization mentioned the other. It appears that modern techniques are allowing entrepreneurs to breed this sacred animal and use it. I should have followed my first instinct, but I felt them, and they are real. I guess it's a "Plastic Jesus on the dashboard" entrepreneurial schtick to make money off Peoples' beliefs and needs. The White Buffalo are still sacred animals, but those that worship money now have a way to use them as they used the Christian's Jesus.

Sometimes I wish I was still young and of violent temper. Now, I am just sad.

Thanks Shanti … for the update and “link” on Miracle
I find comfort in knowing that the sacred hoop is, as always .. intact!!

NeferSesemet …
A white Buffalo called “Medicine Wheel” was indeed shot on the rez in 1996.
And it was a sad day, but … the disposition of Buffalo, White or any other colour can be disagreeably nasty to say the least!!
And if they feel provoked, they can be VERY dangerous!!
Buffalo who escape their enclosures are often shot, because there’s little else that (cost effectively) can be done with them.

Nighthawk … I see you follow the Peltier cause.
Did you recognize the name of “Poor Bear” in that article posted by NeferSesemet?

Having lived on the Pine Ridge rez off and on for years …
I can tell you that I don’t remember a time when it wasn’t in volatile turmoil!!
Believe me when I say that “this” particular rez, is a place like no other on earth.
Where the clash of Native American and White “Other” never rests, and the horrific pain, of a turbulent history is always on the surface!!

On the Pine Ridge, as with ALL NA cultures … the Spirit Beings, both 2 legged and 4, are still respected, and just as they always have … walk among, and often commune, and hold council with the living.

Sadly maybe .. The memory of places like “Wounded Knee” remain ever fresh in the hearts and minds the people, and will forever serve to stir the blood of her Warriors.
Thus causing the Pine Ridge rez to be a place where the epitome of hate and sorrow, still hold sway over everything else.

The Legend of the White Buffalo Is Spiritual Prophecy for World Peace

I can think of no place on earth where “peace” is needed more, then the Pine Ridge Reservation.
If America can’t manage to resolve true PEACE it in the heart of her own Nation …
What hope do we have in seeking to create it anywhere else in the world??

PaganFiles ….
Is the glass half empty?
Or half full??

All the world is seeking ways to get rich and that’s just part of the greed in human nature.
But don’t let the bad you’re seeing … outweigh the Good!!!

The White Buffalo is still sacred!!!
The legend is still real … and People still have hope!!
I know that I do!!

I don’t think so ….
Please read what Chief Arvol Looking Horse had to say.

Another white calf was born August 7, 2001, in MI, she was considered to actually be the 9th Sacred White Buffalo Calf born after the first white buffalo calf in 1933.

On September 26, 2001, Chief Arvol Looking Horse, who is the 19th Generation Keeper of the Original Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe, gave this calf a truly spiritual name. …. Wahos'i, …. which means "Messenger"
He said this about her birth ….

White Buffalo Calf Woman's spirit would make her presence known, a sign of great changes signifying the Crossroads. I never dreamed I would live to witness this momentous time. Eight other white buffalo have since stood upon Mother Earth. White Buffalo Calf Woman's spirit has announced her message of support in this time of great danger, and she continues to announce the message in the birth of each White Buffalo--each one of them a Sign, each one a fulfillment of ancient Prophecy as well as a new Prophecy for our times.

Okies ….
I think I’ve over killed this thread with all my postings.

My apologies to everyone, it’s just that I have a passion for the legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman, and the hope it prophesizes for all this, our Mother Earth and all who walk, fly, swim, or crawl her.
So along with that passion comes a love for the White Buffalo.
But I promise … I’ll post this last bit, and then leave it, just incase anyone else might want to add their two beads worth.
Thanks for your patience, and again my apologies for maybe posting too much info.

A reporter asked Lakota elder, [Black Elk] one day, if he thought that the story of the white buffalo calf woman was true.
The elder said, " I don't know whether it actually happened that way or not, but you can see for yourself that it's true.

CHRONOLOGY OF THE

Little Medicine was born blind. When he was six months old, he went to live in the National Zoo in Washington, where he died in 1947.

The Sacred Pipe has been handed down through 19 generations.
When Miracle Moon was born, she was flipped 15 feet into the air by a young bull while she was still in her birth sack.
Jim Riley, owner of Spirit Mountain Ranch, saved her life.
They didn’t know at the time that she would be a white buffalo.

June 8, 2000, Rainbow Spirit was born in Wyoming where her mom, Miracle Moon was born.
June 8 is also the date of the passing of Stanley Looking Horse, father of Chief Arvol Looking Horse.

> .. I would still be very interested in any thoughts anyone else might have about whether they believe, or don’t believe in the legend of the “White Buffalo Calf Woman” ... <

Here's a picture of Sunrise Spirit, and her mom, Mandella Peace Pilgrim.
