In Illinois, it's now 11:27 AM on Wednesday, the 15th of August.
Today, I pack my suitcase and my bags full of clothes and other things. I wear an old shirt and prepare to wear these pants twice in a row, to maximize the amount of clothes I have available before I have to do my first washload. I have all my supplies at the ready, including some vitamin pills. Taking vitamins was a habit that began in the first week of my braces, when I was on basically a liquid diet, and continued even after I could eat again.
Tonight, I will watch The West Wing for probably the last time. My college schedule promises to be quite a full one. I'm taking Calculus w/ Analytic Geometry I, Basics of Java, Principles of Comp. Sci. I, Intro to French Literature, Comp. Algebra System Lab, GH101 King Arthur, and for my P.E. requirement, I'm taking Relaxation. :D
Tomorrow, I eat a quick breakfast, arrange everything in the trunk of the car, and help my mom get my little bro awake and ready for the trip. Once we get started, it's a 4-hour trip from our home in Aurora down to Macomb, IL where I will attend Western Illinois University. It will be August 16th, a Thursday, exactly 2 weeks after my 18th birthday, and freshman orientation begins as soon as we all arrive. I'm supposed to be there by 1:00 PM.
On the 20th, the following Monday, my classes actually begin.
I'm leaving home. It's kinda weird to think about that. But I'm ready and I'll be OK. This is the moment that's been coming for over a year now.
I'm going to college.

Don't stress yourself out too much, college isn't as hard as you've been lead to believe :) Calculus might be interesting, Comp. Algebra is probably just going to be number system conversions and gates, Basics of Java will probably leave you *very* bored :)

I know you have a good leg up on this stuff, so good luck and don't worry yourself too much! Have fun!

Hugs and luck to you. Reading your post I was jealous. I didn't know what I had when I had it and dropped out after one semester... don't make the same mistake. It's very much worth it.

I thought I was going to hate college and was going on protest. I ended up having a blast.

Good luck to you. I hope you have a very safe and happy experience there. And just some Mom advice~ be careful, K?

Wishing you all the best, the start of an exciting phase in your life, enjoy it. :)

And send my best wishes to your Mum, must be strange for her too! Neither of mine have left home yet, but the eldest is very close to it and i'm sure most Mums can't help but think -'Have i prepared them for it all? What can I tell them to keep them safe? How can I not worry?'
Can be heart-wrenching to see your kids go, but I'll bet she's soooo proud of you!

Brightest Blessings

You will be like a fish out of water for some time, but you will adapt. And in adapting, you will LEARN how to adapt. Isn't THAT neat?

Organization and planning are the keys to survival in college. Intelligence and creativity are really not all that important. Then again, I don't know your chosen major.
