hullo! :floating:

i was wondering if anyone has got any information on older greek practices, or if there are even any books out there on it (there must be, they're just hiding from me!).

i'm eclectic (and have been for ages), but looking to incorporate a more 'greek' flavour to my path.

Salve!

It is a shame really, with all the info available on Roman history and religion that there is practically nothing of value on Roman magic. Roman writers wrote for a Roman audience, so they felt no need to document practices already known to their readers. Also, Romans by the Classical Period were generally skeptical of magic. (Read Pliny the Elder's tirades against the magi in his Natural History.)

You might want to start with this article (http://www.societasviaromana.org/Collegium_Religionis/roman_magic.php) by my fellow sodale, Marcus Moravius. Its pretty good.
Arcana Mundi (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0801825482/002-4376604-4700843?v=glance) is the latest, greatest. But its mostly Greek.
You also might want to check out Magic in the Roman World by Naomi Janowitz which will lead you to other sources.
Good luck.

Vale bene!

thank you so much, i will most certainly be sure to check out those sources! :)

it is truly a pity that there isn't much on the old magickal practices of greece and rome. :/ of course there is information on the holidays celebrated, such as saturnalia, which correspond (ish) with many popular wiccan/pagan sabbats today... but hm. it doesn't seem as though a 'greek tradition' or a 'roman tradition' of magick has really been outlined -at all-.

if i somehow succeed on finding anything i'll let you know :p thanks a bunch, once more!
