I watched the National Geographic Channel show on witchcraft last night, and the first bit was about Bruja. They showed people beheading chickens, killing frogs, and also human remains being sold at a "witches market".

Is that what Bruja really is like, or did the program misrepresent it?

LmaoOOOooooo reading this ... erm ... not laughing at you Fideal ... just at the whole general concept. :geez:

Bruja is just the Spanish word for Witch.
La Bruja means “The Witch
Brujas Blanca's = white witches
Brujas Negra's = black witches

Stories about witches, and what they do ... remain the same world wide.
The good and the bad … the horrific, all depend on who’s telling the story, and from what perspective.

What makes me :grrrrr: though is that they show this kind of crap on TV. I mean, it's not like we're usually represented in a non-biased, positive manner... but this is defamation.

It is defamation Stella
Definite offensive slander!!
But what are we to do actually?
It’s the same kind of thing that particular people, traveling particular paths, have been dealing with for centuries!!

Making your beliefs public knowledge can get you very “unwanted” attention .. Even in this day and age.
I don’t believe that any of us are still as free as we’d like to think that we are.

Are there practical .. “Positive” .. ways of protesting a show like this?

I’m curious if there are folk in MW who have had any real experiences with protesting publicly, in favor of some particular “Pagan/Wiccan” cause.

There's a thread about this already in just talk. It's NOT defamation at all. It was showing the "taboo" side to witchcraft. Different cultures have different beliefs and rituals on witchcraft - it didn't single out any group in particular.

also would like to point out that some people do do those things, and those were the ones shown...they didn't say all witch's were that way

Ohhhh sowwies WitchJezebel …
I’ll go take a peek at that other thread.
Thanks for letting me know.

And for the record … I didn’t see the show (don’t watch telly at all actually)
*shrugs*
I was just commenting in a general sort of way.

Aaaahhh, now that sounds different.

Dove: even if it had been defamation, I wouldn't waste my energy on protesting against it. I'm trying (not always succeeding, lol) to be angry for no more than a few minutes when I see anything like this, and rather enforce my positive energy... I believe the Huna saying that what you focus on, grows... :)

Hugs!!

but this is defamation.

Only if it's not true.

Only if it's not true.
Not necessarily. If a report presents an aspect as something everyone does (which is often the case - obviously not this time), it is still diffamation imho.
