I have this beautiful Chinese Chi'in I'm extremely attached to. Normally I clean it with Olive Oil (I wish I could find some good clove oil actually, but I can't so I make do with what I have ^O^) which works okay ... but lately I've been using the sword more and more in my spiritual practice and I got this bright idea to mix a little essential oil into my plain oil base to clean it with.

So my question ... are there any oils that one should not use on metals (namely carbon-steel and brass) or woods? Has anyone used a special oil mixture to clean/annoint his Athame and will share? :D

i don't know that much about essential oils, but a lot of them are very strong. for example, cinnamon essential oil will strip paint, so you want to avoid that one. as for others, i don't know what they do to wood or metal. if you can't find any information, you might want to get a cheap kitchen knife, put some of the oils you have in mind on it, and see what happens.

No it won't hurt the blade if pure essential oil, not all essential oils are 100% pure, some are mixed with other oils. I Collect blades and sell oils, I'm checking on that Clove Essential oil for you. I like to use Dragon's Blood oil on the blades and Rose oil on the wood of the sword and Athame.

Ok just found out that we have Clove Bud essential oil if interrested in it PM me.

there was a thread a loooong time ago which contained info on how to test for the purity of essential oils. i think it was in the green room, sorry i can't be more specifi or remember exactly what you were supposed to do.
