How did you guys get into Wicca? What made it something that you looked into? Was it b/c you could see things in the corner of the darkened room? Was it an interest in the Occult? Was it you signifiacant other? Was it, just because?
I'm curious....(if i offend pls let me know)
Thank you,

Personally I just always had an intense interest in the metaphysical. One time I had an idea to go to Salem, MA on a ghost tour and I fell hard core after that. I believe I was called there. I've always been a witch! (and sometimes a *itch, too!!)

I really don't know what got me started. I know I was about 10 and I had to go to the public library after school for a few hours until my mom picked me up. I started looking up old wives tales, and down the line came to some superstitions and magick. I've been hooked ever since...12 years.

There's a thread on this already, just started a few days ago. You might want to search for it :)

MM Nyah,
I am a hereditory witch, all the first born females in my maternal line have all been sun in Virgo and been given the middle name Ann. I knew from about the age of 3 that I was "different" in some way. When I was about 4 I discovered a book about astronomy and used to stay up most of the night looking at the stars etc through a pair of binoculars. I remember arguing with a teacher when I was 5, when she told the class that god was up in heaven and it was up in the sky-I told her that I'd studied the sky and saw only the stars, planets, moon etc!!!
When I was about 6 I went to a fete with my mum and wondered off to a white elephant stall, I was drawn to a tatty old book, and bought it with my pocket money. That book explained so many things, what I already knew and a lot of my feelings, it was an encyclopedia of astrology and witchcraft.
My mum never told be about any of the family history until I was in my teens, she wanted me to find my own path.
Not wanting to be different from my school friends, I did have a foray into Chrisianity, I went to Sunday School at a methodist church and even got confirmed when I was 13, but I soon realised that I was doing it only to be "in" and no other reason.
I do believe in the teachings of Jesus and believe if he was alive today, he would e appalled at how his words have been twisted and misused.
I could go on and on.....
But all for now!!!

I've been a witch for 37 years and I can't remember how Icame to it. Ifollow my own path now and don't think of myself as wiccan anymore. You just grow into your life.

I am not a witch. I am being trained to be a healer/seer. I am not WICCAN, but I practice the Native American path. According to the closed minded religions in my town "I am a witch". Atlanta might be very metropolitan, but we still are in the middle of the BIBLE BELT.
Oh yes...GOTTA SHARE THIS ONE..... I love it when holy rollers see the spirits that follow me. I see them with their WIDE eyes and they basically freak out.
I am not someone that picked this path. THe path kept kicking/pushing/being in my face..... The path picked me based on my heritage and other circumstances.
I used to see spirits when I was young. I was trained to stop seeing them. My mother is very gifted and knew what I would go through so she stopped it....
She wishes that she had allowed it, but my family was basically closed minded christians when I was growing up.
I still feel the spirits. Once when I was 18 years old, the bottom of my bed lifted up and slammed down. I KNOW they are real first hand. But I am not gonna try to talk anyone into believing in spirits.

As I'm still new at this, I don't mean to offend anyone with my question. Sorry for not calling it "the path" or pagan learning....I do realize that there are many paths out there, I kinda scrwed up on the question...
I'd like to thank you all for writing and letting me learn more about you guys.

well, piffle, don't worry about it, i think enough people told you that its not just Wiccans, so, just keep it in mind.
Anyhoo, I was a wiccan, got into it becuase of Buffy(LOL), and then i gave that up becuase it didn't appeal to me, for a number of reasons. I went into a period of more than average studying, and now I fancy my craft Yin Witchcraft.
For the dark half of the yin-yang, because i was taught that the yin was earth and water, the quieter side, and from that i drew that by quiet they meant the side of you show least, the Dark Half, if you will.
I am begining to define it, somewhat. I don't follow the rede, and If I teach anyone else, they probably won't either, but the most important thing about The Yin, to me, is being yourself.
So if you think you absolutly need the rede, hey, who I am to tell you what you beileve?
Anyway, after my study, the Tarot cards lead me to Yin Witchcraft. I did a reading, and all the cards I got in someway depictied the night. It took several hours(yes, i have that kind of time to stare at pictures) for me to figuare it out. The story I painted with the cards made no sense, so i turned to the night. I got a book on Greek Gods and Goddesses, and read the paragraph about Nyx, and she didn't click. By chance, Hekate was after her, and that's how i found my matron goddess.
That launched me on a journey to find all the dark, and supposedly evil Goddesses I could. None were evil at all.
And that's were today started .... who knows how it will end?

I call what I do "my path". Other people call it different things.
I think this thread just touched on a sore spot for me. My grandmother is praying for my soul, and I joke and tell her I pray for hers.
I don't like the stereo types that people put on "witches" or "wiccans". It is just a problem I keep encountering.
Like this weekend - my friend kept trying to convince me that I am a Christian. Just because I believe that Jesus lived - does not make me christian.
I think the WICCANS are pretty cool - it is the organized religions that I have issues with.
I have encountered VERY WONDERFUL people on this web site. Very openminded and COOL people.
So, as I will continue to practice/burn sage/shake my rattle and drum myself silly.....I will continue to pray for my family....HA!!!
Nyah-----you are VERY COOL....hang loose!!
You are doing GREAT.

Please define/explain these things in your post:
I think the WICCANS are pretty cool
So the non-wiccans aren't? You seem to say Wiccans very very pointedly.
- it is the organized religions that I have issues with.
Define organised relgions. Do you perhaps mean mainstream?

I mean that the WICCANS I know personally and on this web service are very cool. I have been told by local Baptists and other "mainstream religions" that Wiccans are worshiping the devil and crap like that.
I have been getting this lecture VERY STRONGLY for the past month.
I am not WICCAN and I think that they are cool.
DID I SAY NON-WICCANS are uncool???? - NO I DID NOT.
Down in Atlanta - the mainstream organized religions reign supreme. They shove christianity down your throat. I have issues with this. I don't like this being done to me.
So it basically hit a sore spot.
I think there is A LOT of misunderstanding in Atlanta about WICCAN and celtic practices. Also, big problems with Goddess worshipers being attacked and ridiculed. This is VERY uncool.

i get your post now.
I wonder, how can those that have religions that condemn violence and death do it in the name of their deity, as if that made it ok?

Yes these same people are okay with killing healtcare workers in Abortion Clinics, but are not okay with the women that abort. Yes, these "wonderful organized religions" (okay so they are the extreme- or are they???) would prefer a 12 or 13 year old mother to have a child that she cannot support. Oh man - it just makes me SO mad.
Thank you for letting me vent. I have REALLY had a big problem with this.
I like this web page - I have actually investigated several other practices which I feel attracted to.
I especially an curious with Rick's norse belief system. Pretty cool.

I went to Salam as a young buck. That triggered some interest, I remember when me and my best friend were in grade 4 we got our hands on a book of love spells. We tried to do the spells but needless to say they didn't work and that young hunk never fell inlove with me *L* Then I stumbled along Wicca on a web page.... and thats that. I was hooked. Eventually I wondered off Wicca defining my own path.
