View Full Version : Singing in the Night...

Here is what happened to me last night...

Last night I came home around 5am from dancing at a goth club about 3 hours away. My SO and I go to bed around 6am after some well :fpoke: and he passes out. I toss and turn as usual (I've had a nasty case of insomnia due to a changed and inconsistent sleep schedule for about a week) and am unable to fall asleep. My body and mind are finally relaxing and I begin hearing singing. It was...it was...the most beautiful sound I have ever heard. It was the singing of a woman or of many people, or both I do not know. It was in another language and sounded possibly celtic or irish? This is just the impression I got it could be wrong.

I listened to the singing for how long I do not know before I truely realized what I was listening to and when this happened it stopped. I closed my eyes again and thought about what I'd just heard and it returned quieter but then my mind would get excited and it would fade again. This is the same thing that happens when I try to astral project and meditate, once I realize success is near my mind gets overly excited and I lose the ability to medtate or astral project. But anyway...that is what happened when I tried to hear it again.

So my question is...has anything like this ever happened to any of you? I am posting it in this form because I think it may have been a Goddess or divine spirit of some sort contacting me, perhaps giving me a sign that it is time to search deeper into the spiritual realms and no longer remain saftely on the surface. And...does this experience remind anyone of any deities?

First thing that came to mind was the Greek Muses. But as I follow a Celtic path, you might want to take that with a grain of salt.

i work with egyptian deities, and i've had Aset singing to me, though She was more like singing a tune rather than words. She -- the singing was incredibly beautiful. I sang back, and it was like we were communicating on some higher level. There was so much love between us. it was a truly amazing experience.

Taking a somewhat more mundane approach, it could have been
noise induced tinnitis. I'll assume there was loud music at
this goth club? The high frequency vibrations can wreak some
serious damage upon the delicate structures of the ears. This
often results in "ringing" or "humming" in the ear which only
becomes apparent when background noise is eliminated. Lying awake
in bed without any active stimuli, it's not uncommon for this
ringing to seem almost like a voice, or a song.
Just a thought.

Some information about tinnitis and pseudo-auditory hallucinations
can be found at:

Pseudo-auditory hallucinations sound vaguely like tunes, music or voices. They can sound "fuzzy" or indistinct. One lady described hers as, "like the wind blowing, but with a musical quality, as if someone off in the distance was singing without words." Another woman described hers thus; "When I am in a real quiet room I hear this humming in my head like someone is humming a song" ... Make no mistake, when we hear pseudo-auditory hallucinations, it is a very real experience to us.

Hmm that is something to consider asamananara. The music was loud at the club but I then had a 3 hour drive home when no sound but the quiet humming of the car and the voices of the others in the car when the spoke on the rare occasion (everyone was falling asleep and I had to drive). I never noticed anything unusual on the way home. And the singing was definently not fuzzy or indistinct sounding...but it is something to consider. Thankyou for pointing out this idea, I hate to jump to too big of a spiritual conclusion if it's just something scientific.

I think I will look into the egyptian deities now...I have been seeking a path for quite some time and have yet to look towards the egyptian path. Perhaps now is the time?

perhaps it is. If you get to know Aset, she's wonderful.

This is funny. I was remeniscing on a few weird but cool instances from my childhood. The very same thing happened to me, I was in the middle of falling sleep and being awake when I heard voices or instruments singing or playing softly, but consistantly. At first I though it was music in my head ( I ALWAYS have music running through my head) but then I realized that I never heard this song before... and it was sooo beautiful! When I got excited it faded away and it never came back. I too would like to know what this might be. My interest is peaking now...
