Old farmers are a lot like old wives (of Old Wives' Tales) - only about half what they say is right, but I'm often surprised which half.

My Grandmother used to get it for me each Christmas. I loved it and carried it around with me. The weather was frightening correct most of the time, and the info fun and good.

I agree completely, Nighthawk: It's scary how well those little verses tell you what the weather will be like up to 11 months in advance!

One of the local stations here just spent who knows how much on Doppler One Million ( :wtf: ) and it seems to me that their forcast would be much more accurate if the Weatherman just read his Old Farmer's!

This is an old thread but I thought I would mention other things to be found in the Almanac.....

Local farms www.localharvest.org
to tour a farm www.agritourismworld.com
www.farmstop.com

To help children learn where their food comes from--and to encourage them to eat healthier

www.kidsgardening.com
www.edibleschoolyard.org

even the ads can be of interest....a stove that burns corn stalks
fieldtoflue.com

Their website has a lot more of this kind of information, it's useful beyond the weather and the calander.

Corn stoves are very nice to have. I'd like to get a little one myself.

Unless you raise corn it will not save you any money. The alminac is good for planting garden & fishing days too.

'Unless you raise corn it will not save you any money.' If you raise spinach, unless you study other books, it could cost you money.
