MW Server Fund Thread!

Well, on Aug 8th we made our first payment on bandwidth charges, colo space, etc directly from funds donated by the community!

Right now we have $143 in the server fund account. Our bill is $299 month and it lands on the 8th of every month.

There is, but it seems that it has to be set up by the receiver and not the buyer. At least, that was all I found on PayPal when I went looking.

I wonder what could be done to lower it to 2$ a month... and then we could like pay 12$ and have a year. If this could be as a pay and you are granted something..it might work.. shoot, I don't know

I meant monthly. But, I suppose we could put some year subscriptions in too. It doesnt matter to me.

Doing it this way we might be able to bypass the subscription thing all together.

You know what....it really doesn't matter who pays what. All that matters is "What would I pay to be able to keep this community running, so that I can come here"....just me. Not "what is everyone else paying".....So I'm willing to donate a certain amount every month. Whether others can or will, should not be an issue......

Well, there's nothing saying that once you start somethign you can't change it. Why not try the ticker, see how it's going, and if it's not enough, set up the subscription?

I've wondered about that. Even giving those who donate an extra banner or icon under our names will separate out the "those who donate" vs "those who do not". I don't like that. I think that if you donate, it should be done out of the goodness of your heart, and not to get something. Some months you might not be in a position to donate, other months maybe you can do a bit more.

A subscription method is still a good idea, and I think that Faeawyn's concerns are true. It is human nature to allow others to take the load, IMO. How many clubs have you all been members of that seem to have the same core group of people doing all the work? Mol, I know that you will be very fair about this, but I personally think that monthly subscriptions are the way to go, with amounts as low as $2.00/ month.

Best of luck in deciding on something! You have my admiration for this undertaking.


Edit: I'll go with whatever the admins and the majority of the board wants. Subscription, ticker, whatever. I just want to pull my weight.

My thoughts exactly... I hate that tendency to create classes on other sites. I love it here and I'll be making a donation every payday just so I can continue to come here. I'd hate to see it come to subscriptions, too... I know how it can be to live paycheck to paycheck, so I would sympathize with those who simply couldn't afford to be here. If those of us that can manage a bit extra here and there all chip in, there should be no reason we can't do this on donations alone. I also like the ticker idea... if things are looking sketchy I know I can always scrounge up a bit of change from the cushions.
