View Full Version : Are you a Procrastinator?

Faeawyn
August 13th, 2004, 09:37 AM
I am HORRIBLE!! I procrastinate about everything :(. I've been staring at the same piles of clothes that my daughter has outgrown, and I'm supposed to be listing on Ebay, for 3 weeks now. They're just sitting here....in front of me.....and I can't muster up the motivation to iron them, take pictures and post them.
The same goes with just about anything in my life and I HATE it. It's so frustrating. My husband is the same way.......
I have about 15 unfinished projects around my house that I've started, but haven't finished. It's, by far, my greatest character flaw. I envy those who jump up and do things as soon as they feel they need to be done.
Do you procrastinate, or are you someone who always finishes the project?

Yes, I am the biggest procrastinator I know! I put everything off, and I put things off so often, I actually forget to do it!

Depends on what it is.. somethings i procrastinate till it's almost too late to do them. other things i'm done with them way in advance. *shrugs* I guess it depends on how important it is to me.

Yes, I am a procrastinator! I am sad to say. My house is filled with unfinished projects, etc. When the rubber meets the road, I get things done in a hurry. I never miss a deadline, but if I'm not on one, well, I piddle my way through. sigh.........

Serious answer now...

I used to be a procrastinator, but as someone said above, I'd often forget about the project and then have hell to pay later when it wasn't completed. So now, I may put things off a little...but then will try and catch up as soon as possible.

Yes...I ..think..I am.. So bad, too...

Valkie
August 13th, 2004, 09:46 AM
I'm the same way... If I can put it off, I do. I can usually work pretty well with a deadline that someone else needs me to meet, but things for myself... forget it! I'll always think of something that 'needs' to be done first.

And I can completely relate to the '20 different unfinished projects'. I think that pratically everything in my house is a project that I started but never finished.

The bane of my existence... though usually, I don't do it consciously. I have alot of stress issues (especially lately), but they're starting to subside now that I have work again. :D This weekend, I get everything done!!

I am, and so is my husband. But, I only am at home. At work, I'm super effecient and always ahead of the game, but I let stuff pile up at home until I'm forced to finally take care of it. I am simply not motivated at home like I am at work.

I'm a horrible procrastinator and my husband hates it.He has to remind me over and over to do something, because if I put it off long enough,I completely forget about it.I know certain things I procrastinate on are out of fear...like the dentist, calling on the phone to strangers, and so forth. Those are the ones that drive my husband bonkers...well,they all do,but those are the ones he feels need to be done.Something to definately work on....but I'll probably procrastinate on that one :shhhh:

What IS it about talking to strangers on the phone? Both my husband and I hate that, which makes getting things done via phone a real challenge for us!

I only am when it comes to school-projects (okay, and sometimes housework too)...

I am with some things (housework) but sometimes I go on these tangents when I am Miss Get Everything Done , that's when the my BF needs to watch out because when he's procrastinating & I'm being efficient I get annoyed! :gagged:
I have to be in the MOOD for things, that's when I'm into planning and carrying out every last detail until its perfect.
Lately though, I put everything off & deal with it when I HAVE too, which makes me feel rushed & things don't come out the way I want them too. This is when I need to kick myself back into the go, go , go mode! :steppy:

Another procrastinator here...at least at home. At work everything gets done really quickly.

And I wanted to add that if you can't seem to motivate yourself to go to all the trouble of ironing the clothes, hanging them and taking pictures, etc. then don't. It's been three weeks. It's time to just throw them in a bag and take 'em to charity. You can get a receipt and use it as a tax write off too.

Yes, and if there was a pill to make me perfect (mommy said it was called RID-A-LIN :P) I'd take it. But I'm trying to make my life better and stop this procrastination... it's just there's soo much to bloody do.

I'm a big-time procrastinator, but when it comes to things I *have* to get done, I do eventually do them and do them well, but it's always at the last minute. It's started to bother me so much I just bought a book on overcoming procrastination - I'll let you know how it goes, if I ever get around to reading it! :bigblue:

I'm the worst. I put things off for so long that when it comes time to actually DO them (return library books that are overdue, let's say) I'm too embarrassed about how long I put things off to rectify the situation.

A very wise acquaintance of mine says that procrastination is closely related to perfectionism--when it simply can't be good enough, why do it at all? I get that way about things from writing and art to cleaning my house. Instead of just digging in, I see HOW imperfect everything is and become overwhelmed and just shut down. Aaaaaghhh! I hate it.

I used to be... I was always going to tour by bicycle, I was always going to learn tai chi, I was always going to finish my book (okay THAT one's still coming... but I'll get there one day :hehehehe: ) and then one day I lost my job (which I'd been trying to lose for the past few months) got on my bike, and rode. I got up here, decided not to ride anymore, and took up tai chi: for which I'm now an assistant instructor.

Something changed. I don't know what. I don't really care. ;)

Yep, that's me. I heard a comedian say something like:

"If it wasn't for the last minute, I wouldn't have time to get anything done."

It's my own fault, I know. I have this odd idea that I should have some time during each day that I can make my own, regardless of how I choose to do it.

I think I pretty much have a "do it now and get it done" attitude. For me, putting stuff off is kinda like building a damn. All the crap piles up behind it and then you have a real problem when the damn breaks and everything has to be done RIGHT NOW! I much prefer "water management". :hehehehe:
