People who you talk to say that there is a good and bad side to pagarism. how do you know if what you read is white or Black magic.

in my opinion - magick is neither white nor black.
in essence, magick is universal/divine/personal energies manipulated by a person in order to help him/her achieve a goal or some sort.
therefore - the energies themselves, magick, is neutral. Its neither bad nor good.
the person doing magick and manipulating these energies at his/her will - set the tone of the spell. They set the goal - good or bad.
You also have to ask yourself - what is good and what is bad?
because every person is going to have a different definition of good, and a different definition of bad.

I know there are magicians who believe that there are more then just the white / black colors to type a spell..
For instance, there's red for sex magic..
White and black weren't meant good/bad either, but something similar.
Dont know where i read it anymore :/

well even good magick can turn out bad even if the intentions are good. Most of it is kinda in the middle "grey". Everything has its consiquences :hmmmmm:

I think it's pretty much a question of ethics. I don't really believe white or black magick, but there is good intent and ill intent behind it.

But the intent isn't everything... In German there's a saying that goes along the lines of "good is the opposite of well-meant"... And that's where the definition of white and black falls short. Actions have consequences, and there are ethical rules, but there will always be a grey zone in between. Nothing is ever just black or white, so why should magic be?

Plagiarism is ALWAYS bad!
Anyway, I don't personally believe in good and bad forces, just good and bad people.
Verily, there are those who are pagans who are 'bad' and those who are pagans who are 'good.'
As for magick, I don't deal much in magick (as yet), so I can't really answer that.

First, paganism and magic aren't really related besides the fact that a lot of witches are pagans (but not all). Second, magic isn't white or black, it's just magic. You can use it for good, or bad, but even then it doesn't make it anything but magic.

Right-o. I've never ast a spell in my life, and have no plans to start. I have no problem with people who do, it's just something I don't feel a terribly strong call to do.
Paganism and spellwork should not be considered synonymous.

Gah, sorry. I have my @Work skin turned on, it alters the word "pagan" to "People". I like to stop by this site from work while I have a minute or two of downtime, and due to office politics I'd prefer the word "pagan" not appear on my screen.

Oh! You know I was always wondering why it was saying "peopleism" and such. :)

I'm not sure if there is a definite line between "good" and "bad" magic. Intentions can make a difference between it, if you use magic to cause harm to another that is bad. Mostly I think a lot of magic is gray.
If you are asking whether or not bad magic exists, I'd say yes. You can't have light without dark, good without bad. The answer lies within the intent.
