I just tripped over Chrissy1's sig, cause it's a quote from Rent, and thanks to Kaylara and Traz, who took me to see it, i've become a semi-fanatic about it...
I was just curious about other people's favorite plays/musicals/dramas. I've been looking into seeing a few shows, now that can afford it (sort of), and i'm interested in what other people have seen and what they thought of it.
Some of my other favorites where Les Miserables (the book and the movie and the play where all great, even if they are slightly different stories in each case), Cats (the book it's based on is cute, but it's really the MUSIC in the show that intregues me, as well as the AWESOME costumes and coreography, cause in all honesty the plot is a bit silly), My Fair Lady (cause i did it in high school and got to wear those awesome costumes), Little Shop of Horrors (man eating plant, what more can you ask for?), and probably Evita, and for drama, i'd have to say death of a salesman. But i can't forget... Dellit took me to see the Rocky Horror Show live on broadway (bless his sweetheart of a soul), and it rocked!!!
okay that's all i'll rant about for now... any other theater people out there? and it doesnt' have to be on stage, although i prefer the state production over the movie versions of stuff, but if you've only seen a movie version that's just as good, mention it anyway! also.. anyone here been in any plays(school/offbroadway/onbroadway/theater troupe/community stuff)?

My favorites are Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, the King and I, and Kismet. Due mostly to the musical scores. I took voice lessons for five years, and sang much of the music from these musicals in them.
I have a fascination, though, specifically with Phantom. I have numerous books, and have seen two versions of plays, two versions of movies about it.
I liked the movie version of Les Mis...with John Malkovich...I thought it was good.
The king and I is one of my faves, because of the sexual chemistry between the lead roles. I think that the ballroom seen is one of the most highly charged moments in all of movie-musical history.
Oh..and I almost forgot..how COULD I? The wizard of Oz!

I think my favourite play has got to be "The Boys Next Door"
Its hilarious, but really sweet too, its about several mentally-challenged young men living in an apartment and it shows their daily life. My school's theatre department put it on and it was their first entirely student-produced and directed play. For a school theatre production the acting was awesome too, and the people playing the different characters really seemed to fit the parts. I don't think this play is commonly performed a lot, but its one of my absolute faves.

Do a surprisingly good job .....at least they are making the effort :> . Dont feel bad though,
There have been TWO Movies made in my little home town and I was not in either of them as an extra ...... although I almost ended up in one by accident LOL but when the director mistook me for an extra in the
RUNAWAY BRIDE..... I uhhh ran away LOL,
so if you see that movie, many times I sat in the chair where Julia Roberts puts the colored gunk all over whats his name's hair .....it wasnt the CURL UP AND DYE in the movies LOL it was just "The Hair Shop" and was in reality an olde barber shoppe .........and the other movie isnt out yet, but they filmed that one here too , its a childrens story about eternal life......they dumped dirt all over the streets to make the downtown area look pre-auto era. Now what is the name of that silly movie ........

Rent, of course. That one is my all time favorite. I have seen it 3 times so far and always ready to go again. I am going to see Tick, Tick, BOOM tonight. It is an auto-biographical , sort of pre-quel to Rent, written by Rent's playwright, Jonathan Larson. I really can't wait. I bet it will be amazing. It is so sad that Jonathan is now dead- the potential for great works by him is gone. :(
I also really liked the Lion King- the stage show/set was fantastic.
The show I want to see next is Aida. I have heard that it is just breathtaking.

My favorite musical is "Damn Yankees"... cool story about it...
When I was in sixth grade, my dad came to school one day and told my teacher I had to leave early for a dentist appointment. So, I packed my stuff up, and my dad and I were walking out. I said, "Hey, Dad, I don't have a dentist appointment today." He said, "Yeah, I know, but there's this really good movie on this afternoon, and I wanted you to watch it with me." The movie was "Damn Yankees". I thought he was soooo cool for coming to my school and taking me out of class just b/c he wanted to watch the movie with someone. ;)

Inherit the Wind,
The Crucible,
The Night Thoreau spent in Jail. ( I reallllllly loved this one, since i really respect thoreau.)
And...Evita...LIVE is amazing. I thought madonna did a great job as Eva Perrone in the movie..but the movie did NOT compare to seeing it performed live!

my favourite was and is the "threepenny opera" particularly the theatre de lys production down on christopher street.
(in a cracked baritone)
"oh the shark has pretty teeth dear,
and he shows them pearly white.
just a jack knife has macheath dear,
and he keeps it out of sight..."
"pirate jenny, sukey tawdry,
polly peacham, lucey brown,
oh the line forms on the right girls,
now that macheath's back in town"

8O it's a little childish, but since I havn't really seen any others, I"d have to vote for Mary Martin's Peter Pan. . . I LOVE that. . . I've seen bits and pieces of the new one, not enough to really judge it. . . but my mind's set on Mary-sama, so. . . I prolly wouldn't like the new one hehe.

Tick Tick BOOM was outstanding. If there are any RentHeads in the NYC area, you *have * to go see this. I had goosebumps the whole time, as the character, Jonathan, talked about giving up his dream and how a rock musical would never make it on Broadway.
It was eeire. And the music was great and it made the Rent experince so much stronger.....
