Please do NOT respond to the threads. In order to make this project a success, we need to assign everyone to one peer counselor and {Selene} and I are handling that. I know you want to help, and we really appreciate that, however it can get confusing for a person to have 15 different people with 20 different ideas of what to do for their problem!

I think we should ask someone to make this a sticky. I find it very important. People already seem to not be following the rules. :)

Hey, maybe so there's less confusion on what in MW is a counseling thread and what is a rant/worry ramble in JT, maybe we should have the forum have something in the title? You know, like the Circle of Teaching has "CoT" so people know it's a class and might not be open for discussion? Maybe like "PC" or something? *shrugs* I don't know. Just trying to help out. :)

Okay I think I have a solution to this problem. Why not see if Aine_of_the_Fae and {Selene} can get moderator power over(only) this forum? They could lock all of the appropriate posts so that others couldn't reply. I know we could just have some administrator do this but eh I think it'd be quicker and less hassel on the admins.

Not sure Mol would go for that one
Everybody wants to help, and that's great... but... we have to keep this organized so that people don't get overwhelmed :D

Help in anyway. And I'm only talking about the threads in the Peer Counseling forum... If it's anywhere else, then have at it!

no just a concern...
I think one on one counsilling could lead to legal issues...
I think that you do not have the ability to assign a counsillor, should they not choose who they feel they can and should talk with.
I can't help but think this could go all wrong.
I am also remembering there are quite a few people here who should not be counsilling others. I am all for group sharing and then pming with someone you can relate to but...assigning councillors and officially councilling...ahhhhhHHHH I can so see how this can go wrong.
Aine do you really think you are capable of assesing people and assigning them strangers to talk with for real problems.
Oh well sorry if this gets people reved the wrong way.

Not everyone is counseling. This is peer counseling, just someone to talk to. It's not supposed to go deeper than that. If it does, we are building resource lists for people to find local help.
It is not counseling in the traditional sense of "go see a doc..." But counseling is the only word for it. It's just someone to talk to without having to tell 11,000 people your problems, and then getting 50 people with 100 different suggestions trying to tell you how to fix your life, when all you want to do is vent.

The is PEER counseling. Which basically translates to you talking to someone of a like mind about your problems. There are no doctors here and we are not charging for anything. No prescriptions are being written. These people are offering friendly advice...thats it.

Our goal is to bring those who want to talk together with those who want to listen. Many of us want to help but don't want to add an opinion to the 100 already dumped on the speaker, nor PM them for fear that they've already gotten bombarded by 50 people before them. Many of the one's who want to talk don't feel like airing their dirty laundry for the entire internet to read. So, we're offering them and us a way to get together.
I can understand your concerns, but rest assured, we're not here to replace professional help... we're here to offer our time and friendship to those in need. The only difference between this and the rest of the Forum is that we're doing it in a little more structured environment in the hopes of being more help to the Community as a whole.

I think that's a good idea, because it worked really well for COT. :)

Humm...I have just started view these threads trying to figure out what is going on exactly and I understand it is a confusing process. Are the counselors choosing the person he or she would like to work with or is a couselor going to be assigned a person? Again, after viewing these threads a little more I'm sure I will find the answer I am looking for but I am just curious as to what is "exactly" is going on.........;) (lol) If you aren't sure yourself don't worry about replying.

This seems like it's going to develop into a really awesome program.
Let me see if I understand how it's working. First, a person who needs peer counseling can do one of three things. They can post to this forum, and wait until they get assigned a counselor; or until a counselor tells them they have a PM. Or they can PM selene or Aine and ask for a counselor to be assigned to them. Or they can PM or contact a counselor thhemselves. Is this right? If so, then I understand pretty well.
Anyhow, my stuff is up, and I'm going to see if I can get my Yahoo messenger working (darn Yahoo anyhow!) and get ICQ loaded up.

As far as I know, that's how it works!

Yes, OW... that's how it works. I'd only add one thing...
We prefer that counselors NOT take on more than one person to counsel at a time though. I've got over 30 counselors who have yet to be assigned someone, so there is absolutely no reason to take on more than one person -- this way counselors can focus on those they are helping and not get burned out from counseling, hopefully. :)
