Ok-
I let Vivi have a binkie because she sucks everything- her hands, her onsies (don't ask me how she does that) and her tounge (which is funny)... so I figure that I can boil a binkie and not worry about her sucking on it. Well- I dropped Vivi off at my SIL's house because I needed some "Mommy Time". When I got back, the SIL had THROWN AWAY all the binkies because she doesn't believe in them. And Vivi is there wailing away because she just wanted a binkie (I may be a new mommy, but I know the "I only want a binkie" cry) I was so upset!!!! I had to go buy all new ones!!!! I am so torqued!!! I just wanted to rant y'all... I feel so much better now.

That you get me very mad. It is so wrong to change what a parent is doing. I would be paking her pay for the replacements.
Heck it dont matter what she believes, its not her kid!!!!!
You sure got everyright to be mad!!!!

Oooh I hate it when people do that!!!! My family disagreed with me on everything about the way I've raised my son. Now I just tell them do it my way or they don't get to have him at all.

You have a right to be upset, there is nothing wrong with binkies, Shannon used one for a while and then she weaned herself off. MAKE her pay for them, and explain that she has no right to trash other people's property, you break it you buy it in my family. She can keep her own damn kids off binkies, just because this is her neice, doesn't mean she has the same right.

Who does she think she is? Pushing her parental views on you! I would say to make her pay for them too & then have a nice chat about crossing the line.

:flamer: That happened to me when I was young. My mom would drop me off at daycare and they wouldn't let me have my pacifiers. Since I had to have SOMETHING in my mouth I eventually started sucking my thumb. It took a while to break that habit. If your SIL can't abide by your guidelines then she should decline watching your child.

*Sigh* if I deny her the ability to babysit her neice, it will cause a major conflict in my hubby's familiy. His mom used to be religiously anti-binkie, but has gotten over it since she noticed the way Vivi jsut sucks on everything. Hehe- she's pops that thing in Vivi's mouth as soon as she gets that "Give me a binkie or my had will spin" look (I swear, she has one)
I talked to the SIL and told her she should pay to replace them, and she gave me this long story about how since she can't work because of her surgery she can't pay for new binkies and I told her that if she is going to insist on throwing them away, I will insisit that she replace them. And since she can't afford to replace them, she shouldn't throw them away in the first place. And then I asked if she enjoyed listening to a child scream, and she said she'll cry it out eventually. Now, I believe in Crying it Out, but only at night when Vivi gets older and just wants Mommy to come in the room. NOT when she just wants a binkie to suck on.
BTW- the SIL torqued the doctor at the hospital. It was kinda funny. She came in, and the nursery had given Vivi one of those standard issue hospital binkies because she was trying to eat her shirt they had put on her and on the blanket, and you can't have her naked. Well, the SIL pulled the binkie out of her mouth and proceeded to pinch Vivi's feet to make her cry because she needed to "Stretch her lungs" just as I was about to say something (couldn't get up and smack her cause I was still in major pain from giving birth, the stitches and my danged hemrroid) when the doctor walked in, almost smacked her and kicked her out of the room. I should have seen right there that the SIL was kinda off her rocker... but I wanted to give her another chance. Not again people... If she wants to see her, it will be with me or the hubby around.

Vivi's THAT young? I briefly remember reading a thread about you having her! Congrats AGAIN!
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS WOMAN? :hairred:
I strongly suggest what you said, one of you with Vivi if the SIL is around. Gods only know what she is capable of.

She did what? I'm sorry but first off you can buy a three pack of binkies at the dollar store! Make that woman pay for Vivi's binkies! I don't care if you have to hold her up at gun-point and walk to her a to a cheap store! (Actually please don't no matter how tempted you may be) They don't cost alot! Its not like she's replacing a binkie made or pure gold and studded with rubies! At the most you can get one for what three bucks, she's so poor that she can't scrounge three bucks to buy a binkie or two or a couple of dollars so she can buy a three paxk at a dollar store!

If she can't be responsible enough to pay the consequences of her actions, then she has a *lot* of growing up to do. She has no right to throw away something that isn't hers to begin with. That is a lesson that we teach our children at a young age.

How rude and uncaring of your SIL. I wonder how she would feel if someone did that to her. (the foot pinching) Does she smoke (evil thoughts running through my mind) if she does maybe you should snatch her cigarette and give her an indian burn, tell her it will be good for her lungs.
I remember the binkie or not to binkie issue in the hospital, the nurses said they were cool the lactation consultants where super anti binkie and there I was as WW3 broke out in my room when the lactation consultant found the hidden binkie that the nurse had left in garreth's crib for me.
You do whatever feels right to you sweetie and make her pay for that everloving binkie or revoke her babysitting privliges!

To be honest, I'm starting to think the throwing the binkie out thing is the least of your problems with this women. I'm sorry, but she was PINCHING a child?? I'd have kicked her butt out too!
