LOL so true. . .
here's one I got in an e-mail once:
Dear White People ,
A Couple things you should know,
When I born, I black
When I grow up, I black
When I go in the sun, I black
When I cold, I black
When I scared, I Black
When I sick, I black
And when I die, I still black
You white fella,
When you born, you pink
When you grow up, you white
When you go in sun, you red
When you cold, you blue
When you scared, you yellow
When you sick, you green
And when you die, you grey.
And you call me colored?

I realize that no insult was intended but in view of the wholesale murders and assaults of white farm families in Zimbabwe and South Africa- as well as the statement on August 15th by Zimbabwe vice president Joseph Msika that "Whites are not human beings"- its not funny at this time and I DO get it. Link for the article where I found the quote is http://www.guardian.co.uk/zimbabwe The article that you would be looking for is "Mugbe is behind this. In Europe, you call this ethnic cleansing."

Most of us are white. I feel terrible about the farmers in Zimbabwe, and have sent several letters to both the UN and U.S. leaders, but...
laughing about stupid comments that white folks say to black folks is, imho, not related nor is it inappropriate. This is about the awkwardness of blacks and whites dealing with eachother in the western world, not the strife of the white farmer trying to overcome the atrocities of a blood thirsty dictator in an African country.
I think we all need to stand up for the farmers in Zimbabwe. Maybe we could all write to Bush, Cheney, Powell, and the head of the UN as a group.

dragonwyfe - That's horrible. I read the article, it simply amazes me just how STUPID human beings can be. . . At times I am embarrassed to be one. If there is a petition passed around, I will HAPPILY sign it.

and maybe its my age- but I stand behind my original post. It is my opinion- as I said no insult was intended , I am sure . I have not changed my mind. I have contacted people in various goverment agencies as well. But today- the joke doesnot sit well with me. I think it is the element of "otherness" that strikes discordant-

 I will keep you posted if I hear anything. I cannot see how anyone expects to make progress so long as the element of "otherness" is allowed to exist. Even scarier is that the UN is holding a human rights conference in one of the countries violating other people's human rights...one thought has gone round and round my head for days and believe it or not, it is from "Silence of the Lambs"- "What she is doing is very very smart- making the kidnapper see her daughter as a person-it makes it harder to tear her apart..." To paraphrase-to remove the element of otherness makes all more like ourselves.
