View Full Version : Question, about a Path

Okay, I'm wondering if you can be both Druid and Wiccan at the same too, like mesh the too paths together. From what I've read, Druidism, is very much a Celtic Orientated Path, but at the same time I would like to hold on to some of what Wicca is all about.
I find myself being drawn into Druidism, but not knowing enough about it, and not wanting to give up all that I have grown into over the past year, religion wise.
The reason I'm asking this is because I stumbled across this site: http://wildideas.net/cathbad/druid.html via another thread on MysticWicks, and a lot of it deems true for me.
So I was curious.

I think you can be whatever you want...however I think truly one is what one practises...right now you are curious, so before changing titles perhaps you should just check it out and then see where you go. Perhaps after you look into it, letting go of wicca will be easy...or perhaps you will find out it's not for you and remain wicca.

Well that's the thing, as for practice, I'm still learning the ropes, remember dates, that sort of thing, but I feel really orientated to a Celtic path... so it seems the most logical progression, right now at least.

perhaps then you need a more general title till you are settled or perhaps something that can embrace more ways.

Yeah, the only label I've given myself thus far, is that of an Eclectic Pagan with Welsh (sometimes, Irish) and Faery Influences.
That's all I can label myself as, really. Until I learn more, and become more settled.

I believe you can be a mixture of too..There are no limitations in the Craft and that's the good thing, you believe what you feel drawn to and if it is both Wicca and Druidism then this your path.Of course you can lebel yourself Eclectic Wiccan meaning you are wiccan with druidic influences...

I like the ecclectic pagan(not wiccan) especially if you are still searching....this way you do not have to keep chainging your title...You could even just say pagan.
Sometimes I say I am pagan and other times I say I am witch...but it irks me that people assume that means I am wiccan.
I read about a lot of differnet paths...and sometimes I incorporate a thing or two that feels right.

Yeah I should probably start using, Eclectic Pagan, rather than Wiccan, cause as much as I am Wiccan, I'm not at the same time. But when I did stumble upon Wicca, it felt right, and I've slowly progressed to the stage I'm at now.

 I like that one.
Yeah labelling is so tricky. And actually, I discouraged myself from using 'Pagan' as a label, because it is such a broad term.

Taking the Wheel of the Year as a basis of commonality for both perspectives, it's very possible.
I have a nice "inspirational" book on my shelf called Druidcraft by Philip Carr-Gomm and a foreword by Vivianne Crowley. Philip is the Chief Druid of the OBOD, and Vivienne Crowley is an extemely well-known and respected Wiccan here in Britain (for anyone who hasn't heard of them...not sure how well known they are across the pond). The book is an interesting attempt to draw the common elements of Wicca into Druid practice (mostly magical, from what I recall, but also spiritual and practical/ritual).
If you are interested in exploring this avenue, I would definitely recommend the book; I think it pulls it off really well. And even for those who aren't there are some very good teaching stories about the gods.

Thanks, I'll hunt around and see if I can locate this book.
