Scrying

There are many different methods of scrying. Some of which are:

Crystal Gazing (Crystal Ball)
Black Mirror Gazing
Water Gazing
Candle Gazing

Each method is approached in a similart manner - and its best to practice rituals and meditations before using them to attempt scrying.

As with any form of divination, don't get discouraged if you are unable to see anything on your first few attempts. Divination in any form takes patience and perseverance.

Now, when choosing the method of scrying that you wish to try (I will be using the 4 listed above for examples), choose your scrying object carefully.

A crystal ball often works best when clear, and with minimal or no inclusions. However, there are also colored balls that you can buy, and these work just as well for many people as the clear crystal. For beginners, however, I would recommend starting with a clear crystal, and working up to a colored ball.

Colored crystal balls that would be ideal for scrying would be ones made of:

Amethyst (Assists in changing consciousness)
Aventurine (Assists in gaining clearer perception and visionary powers)
Azurite (The "third eye" stone; Assists in gaining insight)
Carnelian (Can be used for gazing into the past)
Emerald (Enhances psychic and clairvoyant abilities)
Flourite (Useful aid in meditation; brings concentration, clarity, and focus)
Garnet (Enhances clairvoyant abilities)
Hematite ("Grounding" stone)
Lapis Lazuli (Increases psychic abilities)
Opal (Second sight and clairvoyance - though it is said that this should only be used by people born between September 23rd & November 21st)
Rhodochrosite (Strengthens the mind and emotions)
Selenite (Advances mental powers)
Sapphire (Promotes psychic awareness/psychic powers)
Sodalite (Said to awaken the "third eye")
Tiger-Eye (Useful in focusing the mind)

While these stones would be more expensive, and more difficult to get ahold of than a clear "crystal" ball - it would be interesting to see what kind of results a person was able to get from one.

Also of note, "crystal" balls most commonly found today are not crystal at all, but glass. While this is true in most cases, these will work just as well for most people as a true crystal ball would.

If choosing to do Water Gazing, you should choose a solid colored bowl, and fill 2/3 or 3/4 of the way with water. Ideal colors would be black or a dark color, as the water is more reflective in a darker toned bowl. Try to avoid patterns as these can distract you from the images that may appear.

Black mirror

To make your own (its very simple!) check out this page:

The "black mirror" is probably one of the easiest scrying tools to acquire that is reusable, as it is very easy to make your own. The black mirror was the first method of scrying that I attempted, and I was very pleased with the results, and how easy it was for me to learn and "see".

Candle Gazing is yet another method of scrying - images are seen in the flame of the candle as it burns.

This method is more flexibe (and often found more difficult!) as there are so many varieties and colors of candles that can be used - it depends on your preference, and what you are scrying for.

Color associations for candles:

General divination: Yellow, white, silver
Courage: Red, yellow, green, brown
Fertility: Green
Happiness: Pink, blue, yellow
Love: Pink, red
Luck: Orange, green, blue
Magickal powers: Purple, yellow
Peace: Pink, blue
Psychic awareness: blue, yellow, silver

Before trying any method of divination, you should cleanse the tools you will be using - if using candles, choose fresh candles that you have not used for another purpose. When using water, bless the water. Cleanse the "crystal" ball or black mirror appropriately. (Don't use cleansing materials that are going to harm the item that you are using.)

I actually bought a small hematite sphere a couple months ago that I was planning on using for scrying. It was actually cheaper than the quartz one.

awesome...I still have to cleanse my hematite sphere...so I'll plan on actually doing that instead of procrastinating.

Ah ... I have a small quartz sphere (crystal ball) but its not clear. But I thought it was unique, and had to snatch it up. But they are reasonably prices so I plan, when I have some money to get some more. But for now I'll stick to candles or water scrying. I have yet to pick up the supplies to make a scrying mirror.

Kalika,

So glad you are back! I am looking forward to working on scrying. I have a hematite, not a sphere, but a large polishsed piece. My son has a crystal ball, and we have lots of mirrors and candles.
