Who is your patron Goddess or God? Do you have one? Why did you pick them, or did they pick you?

I don't think I actually have a patron god or goddess... I just call them God and Goddess. If I had to choose a name for them it would be Diana and Pan.... but I don't really know why... I don't attune to them as much as I probably should.
I do have an image in my head of what the goddess looks like, but no one's every shown themselves to me that I'm aware of.

People tend to look at me with a somewhat hardly contained expression of pure misunderstanding when I come out with this stuff but here goes *grin*

I have four gods which I commune well with. There have been others who have "called in for a while" in the past, Persephone, Hecate, Astarte, and Freyr being some of them, but the following are those I feel a real connection with.

1. Brigid - celtic goddess of all kinds of things. I have an online temple here:
http://www.geocities.com/aerinleigh/deity/temples/brigid.html

2. Ganesh - hindu god of knowledge and remover of obstacles. http://www.geocities.com/aerinleigh/deity/temples/ganesh.html

3. Kwan Yin (Quan Yin) - chinese goddess of mercy. http://www.geocities.com/aerinleigh/deity/temples/quanyin.html

4. Jesus - I'm sure you know all about him. But I'm into the REAL Jesus, not the Christianised version.

Brigid I have always been fond of, she called to me even when I was still Catholic, and the fact that she's Irish appeals even more being that the majority of my father's family is from Ireland originally.

Ganesh, he sort of just popped up one night and never went away. I usually call on him when I'm in need of a clear path or a path to be shown to me, I'm also a big fan of elephants, so he of course is great fun!

Kwan Yin I discovered through Magnified Healing, which she is the ascended master teacher of. I have felt a connection with her ever since.

Jesus I have always felt a connection to, but strangely I felt MORE of a bond to him AFTER I left the church then during. Go figure! I have called on him a couple of times in need, once for a self-healing which was very interesting!

Hi all!
I'm really close to Aradia,I think of her as my protectress.I love her story,of being sent to Earth by her mother Diana to teach the Ways to the people. Was she really a historical 14th century person?I don't know and it doesn't really matter,it's the idea of her that draws me.The Witch Queen.
I call to Diana as The Mother, also as The Goddess of the Witches.I see her as the Virgin, not in the Christian chaste sense but as the powerful woman who no man may own.I also see her as the huntress. When I see the full moon,it's her I think of.
Then I have Hecate as the Crone. Her symbol is the torch that lights the unconscious.
These are all Italian Greek in origin.Hecate was absorbed into the Roman pantheon.
I'm recently drawn to the Celtic Deities. So Brigid and Arianhrod are moving in,becoming closer.I also really like Epona.I use an old horse blanket my Granny made on my altar and Epona seems to go with that.
Being a cat lover,I'm drawn to Bast.
For the God.Sometimes Cernunnos.Sometimes it's Apollo. Also The Oak King and The Holly King for waxing and Waning of the year.
As I've said before,I'm very eclectic.Every time I see something new I try to add it.
Peace and love

The Morrigue, I work with them one at a time, or with the triple aspect. Even with all of their capriciousness, and although sometimes the victim of their somewhat skewed sense of humor, I am pleased they have chosen this ol dragon as a worthy champion. I owe a lot to these three dark ladies. Who keep my armor shining! ;)

Isis is my Major deity. I was alway intrigued by her. Many years ago she beckoned me back to her temple at the Metroplitan Museum of Art in NYC, and my belief sytem was born. She appeared to me in a very real, very personal way, answering my prayers in miraculous ways. She even appeared to me at the moment my father died to tell me that he was with her and would know true joy.
Sekhemet is my secondary Goddess. I relate to her strength. The lion has always been my spirit animal. I feel her presence when I need strength. She has seen me through many hard times.
Finally, Shiva, Vishnu, Pavarti, Kali, Ganesh and Hanuman. All touch me in different ways.

I don't have a patron god/dess either. To be honest, I've never put a lot of thought into the matter. I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I haven't ever given either of them a face... I consider different aspects of god/dess, but never by naming. I have a friend who does... she has studied god/desses much more than I have, and is a well of knowledge!

For the most part I have not named the God and Goddess...

But, I have referred frequently to Dionysus and Athena. I identified with the persona of these two Deities.

The most intimate contact I have had was with a being named ANKOAT. And, I dont have much information about this being...except for what It has done for me and my Path.

Remember the movie field of dreams, there was a line, "if you build it they will come" ;) The same goes for deities, don't worry, one or several will reveal themselves. You may even find that you change your choice several times. I'd suggest reading up on some of the many gods/goddesses and learn more about each one. This will help you to find the one you feel most comfortable with. If you need any specific help, you can always private message me, it's the least I can do for a fellow Canadian Dragon, Hee,hee :D

Pan
Pan was the son of the messenger god Hermes. As the Greek god of the mountainside, the pastures of sheep and goats, he was himself goat-horned and goat-legged. Pan was especially associated with Arcadia, the mountainous state in central Peloponnese. He was playful and energetic, but very irritable, especially if disturbed during his afternoon nap. He liked to play on a pipe, which was known as a syrinx after a nymph of that name who turned herself into a reed-bed to avoid his advances. For Pan could also be a frightening god when he blew on his conch. Our word "panic" derives from this aspect of his divinity. His worship spread from Arcadia to Athens immediately after the Athenian and Plataean victory over the Persians at Marathon in 480 BC, because he made the Persians flee in panic. He rendered a similar service for Zeus during the battle against Cronos and the Titans. His conch deeply worried Zeus' opponents.

Anubis:
Egyptian; Guardian of Isis. God of Protection. Call on him to protect both home and person.

Demeter
Demeter is the godess of corn, grain, and the harvest. She is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea. It is Demeter that makes the crops grow each year. The first loaf of bread from the harvest is scarificed to her.
Demeter is intimately associated with the seasons. Her daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades to be his wife in the underworld. In her anger at her daughter's loss Demeter laid a curse on the world that caused plants to wither and die, the land became desolate. Zeus became alarmed and sought Persephone's return. However, because she had eaten while in the underworld Hades had a claim on her. Therefore, it was decreed that Persephone would spend four months each year in the underwold. During these months Demeter greves her daughters absence, and withdraws her gifts from the world, creating winter. Her return brought the spring.
Demeter is also known for founding the Eleusinian Mysteries. These were huge festivels held every five years. They were importaint events for many centuries. Yet, little is known of them as those attending were sworn to secrecy. The central tenant seems to have been that just as grain returns every spring after its harvest and wintery death, so too the human soul could be reborn after the death of the body

Thanatos
Thanatos was the greek god of death. He may be thought of as a personification of death. He plays little role in the myths. He became rather overshadowed by Hades the lord of the sun.

The Graces
They are the daughters of Zeus and Eurynome. There are three Graces: Aglaia (Splendor), Euphrosyne (Mirth), and Thalia (Good Cheer). The are known for singing and dancing for the gods.

I have stated that Isis has always been my Goddess. Truth be known, she is one of choice. Being rather eclectic though, the God/dess depend on the season and mood and purpose of that particular ritual.

Morrigan is my matron Goddess. Patron is male and so does not apply to a Goddess or female, just a little tec point! But Morrigan and Ceridwin are my matrons.
Arddhu and Arthur my patrons.
All my gods and goddesses are related in that they are all Celtic. It is interesting to see that other people worship and communicate with a wide variety of dieties from different traditions. Does that not cause conflict? All very interesting anyway.

Kaylara

No conflict here unless you decide to call upon deities that have conflicting issues. (Ie. Kali Ma and Kwan Yi.) Or deities that don't like each other.

I think most of us are from mixed backgrounds and cultures. Who knows for sure how old our souls are or what dieties we've worshipped? Who among us were Ancient Egyptians, Atlantians, Druids, etc. I think that is what leads us to the Gods and Goddesses we chose.

I'd be interested to know if your family has always been in the same general area. That may be the reason you match so well with your deities.

ELM

No my family have moved around a lot, on my dad's side they started down south about 600 years ago, e did alot of research! and they slowly moved up north. Even in recent years there's been lots of moveing. As for my mum's side I don't know because she was adopted, her biological parents were Irish and Welsh and thats all I know about them. But I guess my family has always been in the area of these two Islands. Non the less Britain isvery multi-cultural with an option of Saxon, Roman, Nordic as well as Celtic deities. So who knows? Its an interesting point though.

But to me apart from being very devoted to the Celtic deities, it took long enough to study Celtic mythology there's so much to learn it never ends, to me this makes for a good spiritual journey. I can't imagin following more than one tradition, I think it would wear me out!

I can't really say that I have a patron God or Goddess per se, but I would say that Cerridwen and Cernunnos would fit that category. I tend to go outside of my Celtic pantheon for different reasons. Diana, as protectress of my children. Sarasvati, for when I need to get a point across, or need the strength to get the words out in certain situations. Aradia was not necessarily a patron Goddess, but an inspiration to me, and I took her name as my magical name for a time. But back to the Celtic, I have often called upon the Morrigan, for those times when I needed to kick some major butt (figuratively and literally)!

I'm not sure how to describe the patron god that I have. It seems difficult to describe him. Honestly I suspect that there are three. One is Lug (llew, or however you spell his name) who came to me after I was raped to tell me that I would heal and I was safe. The other, I believe, is Odin. I suspect that Odin is watching over me because of the fact that there is always a raven there when I am in a moderately dangerous position, keeping an eye on me, and I've started to actually understand runes. I've also had one or two dreams of the All Father. <shrugs>

The third, I don't know his name, if he has one. I call him simply the Horned One. If you read the second post of mine about the Dark Ones in the Dark Spirituality class, it's a good description of him.

I don't know if I have a patron goddess. I feel a strong affinity towards Brigt, she occasionally guides me in my writing and guides me quite a bit in my education. I also, much to my unease, am finding that the Morrigu are taking intrest in me. That I would need to go into a bit of detail on some interesting situations that have happened to me of late, but I'll do that a bit later.

I'm wondering how can you tell if you have a patron god/dess or if you're simply interested in them?

MoonWolf
March 25th, 2001, 08:23 PM
Okay well I have to say that my patron goddess is Diana. There has been a natural pull to her since I was young. Not just as the swift footed virgin, but also as the goddess of birth and fertility, the wild animals, the moon etc. Sometimes I call her Tana, sometimes Fauna.. she is one in the same. At times I will draw on my deep connection with Hekate, for she plays a very important part in my life as well.

My patron god is Dianus, mostly in his aspect of Kern. The horned god has always drawn the most primitive appeal.. he is strength and virility at it's peak.

I feel my matron goddess is Bast...as I have felt attracted to and protected by her since I was very young. As a patron, I am unsure, I feel the heavy presence of Pan, and used to see him in shadows a lot as a child. But I feel there are many others I have yet to seek and learn from - and also feel certain gods/goddesses are more present at different times and situations. I think it's very interesting what ELM brought up a few posts back...regarding a persons background, as I have a very mixed back ground - part Irish/Scottish and part Algerian/Spanish - I have always had an incredible attraction to the gods/goddesses of the Egyptians and Greeks...but also a strong bond with the Celtic faery's - sometimes I feel very torn...but it is something I feel developing.

Why would that make you uneasy? My patron-Mother is the Morrigan, and she is most definitely NOT the mean, horrible thing people try to twist her into being.

ELM
April 5th, 2001, 04:29 PM
Morrigan is an interesting aspect. I agree lots of people try to twits her into being something horrid, but that is because they are afraid of what they do not understand. Morrigan is a dark Goddess, but that is not to say that there is anything wrong with being dark. It is in the dark places that we discover what is hidden. She can also be very distructive, and indeed she can bring death and war, but these things are part of life and they are feared because our modern Western minds have been taught to understand these things differently than our ancestors understood them.
Morrigan is my guide too, and she can unsettle me, but becoming unsettled is a sign that we must make changes and delve into the unknown which is what we need to do in order to develop and grow. She is a good teacher and a strong aspect and she teaches us to be warriors of our own hearts and fight the good fight. She can indeed be terrifying, but if our path was all sweetness and light, how much would we really learn?! Well thats the way I see things anyway.

It's unsettling and a little frightnig to have recurring dreams of walking through battlefields with the three aspects of the Morrigu there telling you how each person passed on. Especially when they start telling you that you need to face some of the same battles when you don't exactly know what to do.

<bites her lip> She's been telling me that she's going to test me. You know how you get that *feeling* when the Lady is taking an active hand in the way things unfold? Well, it's been happening alot. I'm a bit frightened of the Morrigu because I'm frightened to face what they're showing me. <sighs and looks a little sheepish> It's difficult to listen to some one that terrifies you, even though they don't mean you harm.

I've been having alot of dreams involving the Morrigu over the past year. Strangely enough, I have these dreams at the same time that I'm struggling with the effects of the abusive relationship I was in. Things like flash backs and such. <shrugs> I don't really know why I'm getting ito that, but I hope this helps answer the question some.

Perhaps you could help me to understand them.

Blessings.

Well, walking an Avalonian path, one would think I would look to the Morrigan (sp?), but I find the two names that pop up are Gaea and Cerridwen...and usually when I'm making an exclamation, eg:

"Holy Mother Cerridwen! I can't believe that!"

or

"Oh Good Gaea, they're at it again!"

But seriously, my brother introduced me to Gaea and I've always looked to her and to Cerridwen when I pray for my friends and children.

As for my patron God...I don't really think I have one yet...I just refer to Him as Father God. *shrugs* Cerunnos comes to mind often, though I never actually call Him by that name.

Blessings and light of the Goddess and God...

I have three who seem to be involved in my life right now. The first is the Morrigan, I had an odd experience with a menhir on Skye, and the aftermath seemed to indicate Her. The next is Scathach, it was Her Island after all. The most recent is Bridget, this past year I've felt Her influence even though I've been reluctant to admit it. I'm working at developing an understanding and an 'ear' for Her voice right now. The first two appear to be receding into the background now, it appears I have a life lesson or two in progress.......

Dear Cydira.
I understand your being unsettled. It sounds like all you are seeing is very disturbing indeed. But what can I say? It is all to do with having to walk through the darkness in order to be enlightened, to come back to light. Nothing anyone can say will help you feel any better about what you are experiencing right now. But if it helps I have just come through a very dark and frightening spiritual phase and I am now a whole new very happy and very strong person. This is what happens when you confront your fears. But it is not easy, and sometimes it takes a long time. All I can say is, remember that you can do it, and that when you've worked through it you will be so proud of yourself, and so much better off. Hope that offers some comfort.
Blessings to you.

I suppose that it is difficult for me to accept that the dark aspect of the Goddess has an intereest in me. For that matter, I still have a difficult time accepting the fact that the Lady and Lord care for me at all.

What you have said does help, ELM and Mairwen. I'm just very timid right now and trying to work through alot of pain. I guess that's why I am posting so much in this place, because I feel like you folks are very supportive and helpful when I need a little guidance.

ELM
April 10th, 2001, 08:06 AM
Well Morrigu means Great Queen. When with her sisters Badb and Macha they are The Morrigan. Morrigu has the powers of prophecy and magick. A shape shifter she can take the form of a crow or raven, of a cow, of a crown or wild woman, and of a young seductive woman. She appears in all sorts of myths. In 'The Coming of A King', she appears as the Washer at the Ford and tells Merlin that "I see crimson I see red". There are many stories of her in 'Myths and Legends of the Celtic Race' by TW Rolleston. She carries warriors to the land of the dead and protects them. This is probably where the inspiration for the film "The Crow", came from. For at the aftermath of the battle she is the crow who comes for the spirit of the warrior. In the Arthurian legened she is Morgan le Fay. However before the legened was Christianised Morgan le Fay was nothing to do with Arthurs distruction, she was a Priestess, and as well as being Arthurs half sister she is also the Lady of the Lake, and the one who carry's Arthur to the Isle of Avolon. Interestingly in her crown aspect she is associated with fertility. Well I could go on. But really I meant to ask what exactly you wanted to know. So don't know if any of this helps? Maybe we should ask for a class on dark Goddesses or something?

As a teenager, before I started studying Wicca or Witchcraft in general I stumbled across a picture of Poseidon in a magazine. I was drawn to that picture, and although I don't tend to practice plagerism, I copied that magazine picture in as much detail as I could. I ended up with a picture that was about five feet tall and seven feet wide!!!
When I was eighteen there was a huge upheaval in my life that caused me to give away or burn most of my artwork. I regret that decision now, but Poseidon made it through it all. One of my sisters took him and hung him on her bedroom wall.
A few years ago she asked if I wanted him back and although I said no, my husband went and picked up the picture and brought it home and hung it on our living room wall. When we moved we hung it above the headboard in our bedroom.
Since he is so insistant on being a part of my life, I have begun to look at him with respect and fondness.
As for the Goddess aspect, I chose Athena. Warrior goddess. She has several qualities that I possess and wish I possessed. She has the strength that I wish I had the nerve to let show.
But as I am still a quiet little mouse *smile* and am still learning how to be open, strong and in control of myself, my life and my destiny I am content to stay in the shadows.

For some time now I have wondered who my god/dess(s) were. I've been told to meditate on it, but knowone has told me/showed me how to meditate correctly.:( When I was part of a local coven, my high priestess told me to research them and pick one that I liked. Does she realize how many versions there are of the same diety, just using different names from different races/societies/backgrounds?? Besides, how do you know if you have chosen the right one? How do they make themselves known to you (or in this case, me)?

Can anyone help me, either tell me how to meditate on this so that I may be chosen by a god/dess or point me in the direction of a good book, web page, etc... that will give me detailed descriptions and connections between the different names?

I am facinated by the GreenMan (but I have a celtic heritage). Also, an ex-lover of mine gave me a sketch of Diana as huntress with the head of a wolf (she said that it reminded her of me ). The Grey Wolf is my guardian animal, does this mean that Diana is my goddess:confused: :(

Any assistance would be appriciated :) and I'm sorry for the LONG post 8O !

Thanks in advance for the help.

As of late, Kerridwen has been tapping on my shoulder... a God...Taranis....celtic god of passing seasons, storms & thunder, consort to Epona

I think Kerridwen has been doing that to all of us Gwyddons lately. Maybe we need to corner her and find out what's up. Taranis has been around Kentucky in a big way the last two weeks! What wonderful weather we've been having!! :D

There's just so much more to them. Actually, I fear putting names to the Lord and Lady just yet...I am not sure how comfortable I will be with it.
I want to involve the entire Greek Pantheon...but it's sooo hard.
If I had to pick a Goddess...it's without a doubt the beautiful, wise, strong, fair...et cetera....Athena! Ah...what a marvelous diety (sighs, contented with love for her God).
As for a God...well...I'm looking toward Apollo, but I'm not sure just yet.
I want to say I'm a Hellenic Wiccan. Does that trad exist yet? :)

Gods from most other Pantheons make me uncomfortable...yet I have no ties to Greece. Any thoughts?

well, I honor my matron Selene and my patron Pan. Over the course of several nights while walking home from the bus stop, I would gaze lovingly up at the moon and the name 'Selene' would whisper through my mind. I ignored this until the 3rd night when, BAM, I figured out who was calling me on the astral. I went straight to my bookshelf when I got home and there She was. At that time, I noticed that she was a lover of Pans at one time and suddenly I realised that I had a poster of Pan on my wall. Dont ask how I didnt see it before. Seems to me I was chosen. It doesnt come across in writing, but the feeling of knowing was there. PS. my affinity was for the Celtic pantheon and here comes Rome!

I heard a hym to the Morrigan once. Wish I could remember all of it.
"Oh Morrigan, we call your name
Across the dusty years
You speak to us of Love and Death
You show us all our fears
You try a warriors courage sure
Of holy power you have no dearth
Without the touch of your black wing
We cannot know re-birth"

I've encountered several Deities and worked with them a bit. My first vision of a Goddess was Yemoya, the Ocean mother. Though it wasn't until about 12 years later that I learned who it was. She has a special place in my heart. Others who are special to me are Odin, who I admire for his courage and his uncompromising quest for wisdom, though he does ah....interesting things in your life if he decides he likes you. Freyja, mistress of seidhr (Norse Shamanic practice) and all things that continue Life. Thor, simply because he is very likeable. I like his gentleness (He's like one of those big, burly bikers that loves fuzzy little kittens, flowers, and poetry) and his wonderful sense of humor and practical wisdom. I have worked a lot with Tezcatlipoca, a Toltec Deity of magic, music, vision, joy, and creative chaos. Quetzalcoatl, I have seen in dreams and I recieved my Lifepath Vision from Him. I have deep respect for him but beyond the stories about him (And in the original stories he is not blond and bearded...that was made up later by his devotees so that the Spanish priests would think he was Jesus and not persecute his followers.) I don't know much about him.
Does anyone know anything about a Pacific Island Deity called Mi-oku (Mee-oh-koo)? He's associated with volcanos and protection. I heard about him in a dream, but am not even certain if there is a people who honor him, or if it was just a dream

I've worked with Diana, Pan, Herne, Zeus, Artemis, Athena, Anubis, Inanna, and Mielikki and Tapio. But I'd consider my patron Goddess to be Hecate, who has been very prevalent lately. One day I was just drawn to research about her and found that she isn't just the crone or a Goddess of darkness, as some people think. She's also a protectress of children, a light-bearer, a guide, and a gatekeeper, among other things, and is also considered a triple Goddess.

I think more or less she chose me, as it's my time to come into myself, veer off the path a bit, and explore the darker aspects of life. She says lto me leave those things behind you no longer need, including those friends who do not support you, be strong and confident and powerful.

If I were in a coven I'd think it's time for initiation into the second circle (after 3 or 4 years of studying) but I'm not so maybe I'll just have to initiate myself.

Isis (or Aset as many call her) is my Goddess. No male deity has revealed himself to me yet, but I haven't been actively seeking one, as I had a bad experience with the Christian God and am mistrustful of male deities. I realize this is a shortcoming but I am not quite ready to face it yet. It's odd, because I am a guy, but I don't necessarily feel drawn toward any male deities at all.

I started out in a strange way. After I fell out of Christianity (with many bruises and bumps) I ran across a copy of Circle Network News and read it, and realized there were people who were worshipping Goddess.

I had, ever since I was a kid ,wanted to worship a Goddess, who I thought would be much more understanding than Jehovah, who seemed to understand nothing about humans. But I was raised in Christianity, and I knew that Goddesses were forbidden. Still, I read the Greek and Roman myths and envied them their goddesses - wise Athena, grave and beautiful Hera in particular.

But when I read Circle News, I understood suddenly that I could worship the Goddess, and that many people were calling to her - and She was answering. My heart opened to that. I began to feel Her there when I prayed to Her. I didn't use a name at first.

After a while I began using the name of Athena, because when I read the Odyssey I really identified with Odysseus, and Athena helped him out a lot. Eventually I learned more and passed out of the Athena phase, because it didn't seem quite the right Name for the One I felt smiling on me as I was praying.

Kuan Yin was the name I began using after a time when I had learned more, because my girlfriend (now wife) had a statue of her, and I was in love, and Kuan Yin is the goddess of love and compassion. But that didn't seem the right name either.

So after a while I prayed to Her and told Her, "OK, I know you love me, but I really want a Name to put with you. And if it's not too much to ask, I want to see You, if that's possible."

That year I went to an open Samhain circle and the priestess drew down the Goddess onto herself. I had met the priestess before the ritual started. When she came to me during the ritual I knew immediately that this was NOT the same person I had met before the ritual. She had well and truly drawn down and The Goddess was present and alive in her. She spoke directly to me, to my inner Self, and said things that I am not at liberty to discuss, but they convinced me that indeed I was speaking with Her. But I didn't ask her name, there seemed no need to at the time.

Later I was reading a section of Apuleius' "Golden Ass," where he talks about when Isis made Her appearance before him, and his description of the compassion and being of Isis exactly fit the Lady I had encountered. I was very puzzled though because Samhain is a dark festival and the Lady I encountered was definitely a dark goddess.

This cleared up when I read about Nephthys (Nebet-Het), who was Isis' "sister," and also Isis' "dark self." I realized that Isis had appeared to me as Nebet-Het, because it was appropriate for the ritual and because I needed to accept the darkness as well as the light - I had been focusing on the bright goddess Kuan Yin and needed to accept the shadow side of things. I came to understand that Isis was the one who had appeared to me, and since then I have had several experiences where Isis has spoken to me in my dreams, or come to me in meditation. Sometimes she just comes by to visit with me and a warmth in the room or a sensation of Her Presence is there, usually when I am quiet and still.

I feel very close to Isis. If I had to specify my path I would say that it was Isian-Wiccan, although it isn't exactly like what other Isian Wiccans practice from what I have read. But I am absolutely convinced that She chose me and that She listens to me and loves me.

Was that too much information? ;)

Very cool story. Hope you find all you are looking for.
By the by, I was weary of a male diety at first...and still sorta am...however, the more you realize that dieties throughout the years have been twisted to fit the existing condition...the more you realize that they can't all be bad.
A lot of images we gave to the Gods were just projections of the hangups that people had at that time.
It's no surprise that today's images of God, or a God often seem vengeful and woman hating.....but then again, people of the time were not really into equal rights themselves.
More ancient Gods often are a little less biased in that way....but also biased in others ways...as you may come to find when workign with them. However, they are mostly very personal...like humans, and have flaws (if you can call them that), and also very beautiful things about them...
I just went on and on...don't mind me. Anyhow, don't give up on the male dieties...however, don't feel pressured to find one either. Often a good pair for Isis is Osirus, but that doesn't work for everyone.
Be Well and Good Luck

But I've also called Cerridwen, Diana, Herne, Cernunnos, Brighid, Morrigan, and Badb.

I mostly try to stick to the Celtic, Welsh, and Anglo-Saxon pantheons. I just don't feel connected to most of the Greek, Roman, or Egyptian or Sumerian pantheons.

Elohim -- male and female co-creators/parents --

In 777, Crowley remarks that "The word Elohim is a plural formed from the feminine singular ALH, Eloh, by adding IM to the word. But inasmuch as IM is usually a termination of the masculine plural and is here added to a feminine noun, it gives to the word Elohim the sense of feminine potency united to a masculine idea, and therby capable of producing an offpring" ...
Page 7 in GEMATRIA.

I would paraphrase a part of that qoute to read that:

Elohim is a Feminine God (--goddess--) united to a Male God, together capable of producing offspring.

Don't be afraid of the Morrigan. Respect Her, yes, but only Her enemies should fear her. True, she is a "dark" Goddess, but she is also a fierce warrior and protectress. She may be urging you to talk to her because you have battles in your life you need to fight, and she can help you.

You may even want to start a new thread in this part of mysticwicks (Gods & Goddesses) asking people if they might want to share what they know about the Morrigan.

Or you can sit down in a quiet space, and in a meditative state, start to talk to Her. She may even answer you.

Good luck in your adventure.:)

My god is the almighty dollar.

He has been with me since I was very young. From the time I was small, I heard the magical chiming of the Singing Truck, and I would beg my mother for a dollar that I may partake of its sweet gifts. She would bestow the blessing upon me, and off I would run, to offer up my worship at the Shrine of the Singing Truck. Is there anything sweeter than the blessed creamsicle?

As I grew older, I learned the value of a dollar. I began to appreciate its power. I could use it to fuel my car, to purchase food, to bribe friends... its power is infinite, and of the greatest scope.

Even today, when I earn many many thousands of these dollars each passing year, do I bow my head in reverence to this almighty god that has blessed our world. Even though I no longer deal much in with the direct physical form (I have a mac card, a checkbook, and auto-deposit set up from work), my reverence for this icon is no less.

It's symbols - the All-Seeing Eye of the Illuminati atop the great pyramid, and the image of Adam Weishaupt emblazoned upon the front, these give me the source of strength I need to buy the beer that nourishes uplifts me.

I know exactly how you feel. A couple months ago I felt the same about Hecate. She too is a dark Goddess, and is often compared to the Morrigan and Lilith, etc. If hell does break loose, you will come to understand that it was the best thing for you at the time. For me, bad relationships ended, my beliefs changed, and I became a more powerful person. I don't think the Morrigan will change anything that doesn't need to be changed; and even though it might be chaotic you will probably emerge from it realizing what happened was the best thing and needed to happen.

I find myself looking to her for guidance when I become angry, and I find her helping me find the right way as well as wreaking vengeance on those involved. She also has a habit of pushing things - when I don't realize it's time for an ending she forces the matter. Isis has been the one since I was a child. I've always had this pull toward Egypt. Lately, I've been doing a lot of reading about Isis, Osiris, Horus, and so on and it feels right.

Why Isis? A deep feeling of love and protection all my life. She cares and listens. When I ask for anything, I try to avoid specifics, and give Her the general idea and put myself into Her hands and trust Her wisdom to do whats appropriate for me.

Most of the gods and goddesses seem kind of remote and "Godlike" Isis has been where I've been, She's known love, joy, separation, grief, worry, and so much more, I feel She understands and Her compassion is infinite, She knows. She is my Mother, friend, and more. There has never been any doubt in my mind even in the darkest times that I am loved.

Gods... I feel a certain affinity with Lugh as I was born on His day, and certain aspects of Lugh fit well, we have some things in common, and when I pray to a god, its Him. But I have had experiences with others.

I was doing a protection for a friend who was being severely physically abused, to the point of needing doctors care. I called to Isis to protect her and unexpectedly, I saw the Eye of Horus looking at me. I didn't know that much about Horus at the time, but found that protection was his specialty. I can only think that Isis thought it called for Him. I have found a growing liking for Horus, and as Isis is my Mother, Horus is my Brother.

One thing about Isis, is that She has many aspects, light and dark, She has been many things, but above all, She is a survivor. So am I.
Blessed Be

I suppose the male diety I find msyelf msot drawn to and most often in contact with in Dionysos--particularly in his aspect as god of ecstasy--there's something truly magical about the ability to feel one's ego dissolve into the great undifferentiated mass of energy that pervades the world--in these moments I am not myself, but rather part of a great mass of energy and emotion that pervades and supercedes my own fragile sense of self. Furthermore, as a theatre scholar, Dionysos seems immanently suited to by professional calling as the first theatres were dedicated to him and he is the god of masks and illusions. I also feel that he is teaching me about sexual liberation and how sexuality is positive and life-affirming, rather than negative and destructive (as I had been taught growing up and had experienced it for quite some time--although that was probably more than you needed to know, anyways). Although I am still trying to grapple with how a god of such love, positive energy and mirth can also be a force of destruction--learning to embrace the dark side can be hard, I guess.

On the female side, I generally find myself calling upon a "Great Mother" although I often use the name Isis in this respect. Which I syuppose is fitting since a certain scholarship considers her consort Osiris and Dionysos to be identical--in any case, I idnetify her with the land. In Egypt I believe that she had an identification with the Nile and its life-giving fertility in the land. She was venerated as the Eternal Mother, which is the aspect of Isis with which I most identify.

Although lately the name Innana keeps popping up when I am chanting, particularly in connection with Dionysos. I don't know much about this goddess, so I believe some research on my part is in order to try to figure out what is what. Anyways, sorry to babble on so long.

Brightest Blessings,
Dann

Lilith. Because she is strong. To me, Lilith represents the strength of the feminine - in all aspects, even in the darkness there is powerful strength. I have always admired Lilith. She is, one of very few Goddesses that was actually actually mentioned in the bible (even tho she was vilified, she was at least mentioned - there again that darkness afforded some power and strength).
I think there is a time for Lilith in every woman's life and it was time for that in my life when I found my Pagan path.

Lilith, I might have wondered what you meant about darkness, as many people ( I suspect) equate dark aspects with things like black magick or something negative. But reading The Mysteries of Isis ( deTraci Regula) She talks about the dark aspects of Isis, dealing with survival, self preservation and those sorts of aspects of Her.

The enlightened achievements of the quest toward the light are possible unless first built on a solid survival instinct. I'm a solo parent of three under 10s, on a very limited income. Sometimes its a real struggle to make ends meet, and still have some kind of life for us all. You just have to grit your teeth and determine that you are going to make it. What you said makes lots of sense. Life isn't all cotton candy, and fluffy bunnies. I hope things are better for you now.

They have both called out to me and fascinated me since i was very young

I actually don't even believe in many Gods. The name of the "God/dess" (to me) is just a short word for the multiple types of energies I wish to incorporate into my magick or self. It's difficult to put into words. Maybe an aspect of an ever/all present energy that has no form, but is everything.
I can conceive of it, but not explain it.

I don't know about this... but the thing is, I've always been attracted to Hecate, but I can't get a clear picture of her in my mind. Perhaps it's because my impression of her is one who is all knowing but keeps silent, one who dares and one who listens, and yet one who is cold and perceiving. really, I can't get a proper image of any of the Goddesses at all, but when I picture the Goddess as <i>the</i> Goddess, I can... a little. Would there be any goddess associated with the Tarot? Because I drew the High Priestess three nights in a row... and I've always reagrded that particular card as the "Goddess". I know Hecate is also a goddess of the Tarot, but I'm wondering if there are any others. Also, I like Brighid-- her qualities, virtues and talents sometimes-- if I may be so bold as to assume thus pompous fact-- reminds me of some of my own "hobbies". Also, Isis has always fascinated me ever since I first read about her-- but the more I find out, the further She seems to retreat from me. Sigh.

When i worked with Isis i found also that the more i learned about her the futher she drew back

What i found in the end is .. that u should not research her ... let her into your life and let her teach you about her
I'm not saying don't research her at all by all means learn enough to be able to draw er to u but in the end give yourself to her and she will teach you about herself

What is improper about that "image" of Hekate? Some have a belief that you may not get a "proper image" of other energies until you work more with them. Maybe this is the type of "calling" that others refer to when they speak of a diety calling to them.
I only work with Hekate because that's what works best with me. Sorry I'm not really any help.:ack:

I think she was referring to images of any of the Goddess, not just Hekate.

Some people aren't comfortable working with Her at all. *shrugs* If no deity is grabbing at you don't feel the need to pick one. You can work with God and Goddess, Lord and Lady, etc. until you find someone who really speaks to you.

That's why I added: "Some have a belief that you may not get a "proper image" of other energies until you work more with them." <--(referring to Brighid or maybe even Isis or Hekate or others) I agree that God, Goddess, Lord, Lady,,, work wonderfully for people. It's all very personal.

Raindancer
October 16th, 2001, 06:24 AM
I agree with Aveena, whats more important than a name is the essence of Lord and Lady. I think its a mistake to think that maybe its somehow required that you pick a/some historical Gods and Goddesses, and go with that, or somehow you aren't "Doing it Right".

I pray and commune with Isis, because its always been Isis, in this life and before. Its an emotional loyalty and a bonding with Isis. I trust in Her and She takes care of me. But it may be different with you.

deTraci Regula, in "The Mysteries of Isis" says She was known as "Isis Myrionymous" Isis of myriad names... Goddess of Ten Thousand Names. The name She was known by differed from culture to culture, but She was Herself nevertheless.

I consider this: Each of Her names had a time before. There was a time before She was known by all those names, when all there was, was Her essence, and one day someone realised this essence, and gave it a name. Naming is what we humans do so we can begin to understand something.

Rather than worry about names and stories and attributes that accompany those names, that perhaps are an uncomfortable fit, perhaps what you may want to do, is what our ancestors did: feel the essence. Take it in, know it, make it part of you and you part of it. Know what that is and then if you feel right about it, if there is an existing name, be it Isis, Hekate, Ishtar, Innana, Venus, or whatever, and if it fits try it and see how it goes.

But if you find that the aspects and essence of deity you see are different and unique to you, I think that you shouldn't feel at all wierd should you choose to give that essence your own personal name that calls up that essence for you. You can be the first to call Her/Him by the name that expresses the attributes and being that speaks to you. After all, there was a time before Isis was known as Isis, someone was the first.

Or you may feel that its something unknowable and un-nameable, and shouldn't have a name, but a symbol, or just a thought or an image in your mind that says it all. Its your life, your spirit, and your path, its purely up to you what you do with it.

My feeling is that as you find that essence, work with it, bond with it, and in the process find out about yourself, everything will fall into place. Just open up to it and make it part of you, it will tell you who it is.

As Shakespeare said: A Rose by any other name would be as sweet.

Blessed Be

Thanks everybody. I'll try what you suggested. :)

LunarMist, I may have chosen the wrong words with which to phrase my question. What I actually meant was that I can't quite picture them-- their faces, their characters e.t.c. Generally I can't even feel their presence at all. But when I simply address the Moon by the name of Goddess-- it is true, I can feel something-- someone-- a certain form of faceless energy, yet benign and possibly even cruel.

Phew. I thought I was the only one who was --rejected?-- by Isis. I know, bad choice of words again, but it's the closest I can come.

Love and light, everyone,
Keron

Maybe what I should do is that... um, is it aspecting? Something like that.

Anyway, do you actually feel closer to the Goddess or the God? I am never able to feel the same "presence" when I... kind of like, "speak" to the God, as I do with the Goddess.

She's been mine for awhile. Be prepared to be strong, opinionated, and independent - friends that weren't treating me well got dropped or were forced away from me, I started saying what I think without being apologetic.. also beware because some of the people around you may not be able to handle your energies. Thanks for the advice Myst, I'll keep it in mind. Thus far, you've been right about becoming more bold and more open to voicing my own opinions w/o apology. This has been a recent change in me, I thought that I was just becoming more impatient, but I guess that it could be attributed to Hecate's guidance. My Patron is Aphrodite. I didn't choose Her. She chose me. She visited me in a dream that was so real and so intense that I can't even explain the feelings and sensations involved. She said one word**Aphrodite!**and She disappeared. I was left totally overwhelmed. When I could finally think again, I realized that it had to have been a dream because I was in a different room. I was also confused. Why Aphrodite? I hadn't even been studying Her.
At first I wondered what my dream meant. I tried to dismiss it as a subconcious aberration, but the feelings had been too strong and too overpowering to fade away. I can still recall every detail
of that dream, and I can honestly say that I've never felt that way, ever, before or since then. I finally began researching Aphrodite and realized that She is much more than just a Love Goddess. Aphrodite is one of the names for the ancient Great Mother Goddess, and I am deeply honored that She gifted me with that dream and allowed me to glimpse just a tiny portion of Her awesome power and presence.

I'm not one of Odin's followers, but one thing I can relate to with Odin, is His thirst for knowledge. I would guess that something about Odin resonates with something within you. There is some kind of affinity there.

But we are all many faceted and perhaps Apollo and Artemis have something to offer also. I don't think you need fear the wrath of Odin, He would appreciate anyone who will go to wherever the knowledge is to be found. The spiritual explorer.

I really don't think that it makes a lot of difference whether you are male or female when it comes to which God or Goddess you resonate with. I think its more to do with our spirits, our inner being which aren't particularly either, or rather are push comes to shove, both. Its soul to soul, and we go to those we really connect with, we go to what we need. I'm male and I feel such a closeness to Isis. I can't explain it easily, its just part of me.

Place yourself in Their hands, and learn what They have to teach and while you are doing that, learn what you have to teach yourself. Pay attention.

Very recently i did a meditation, and guess who dropped in.... Morgana le Fey! She rose up out of a small pool in a cave, draped in water plants, and carrying an owl mask. That's the last i thought of her:( There has been so many unsavoury things happening in my life, that I haven't even noticed if she's been there or not, or maybe I'm shutting her out, to many bad memories associated with "the higher ups"

I had no idea she was one and the same with Morrigu....and the thought comes to me, should I let her help? There's already enough chaos in my life as is:(

Well met everyone and Brightest blessings!

My matron deities are Aphrodite, Oshun, Athena and Kwan Yin.

Aphrodite claimed me as a child of 6 or 7, and I have loved her all these years. A lot of people shy away from her love goddess aspect, but that is the part of Her I embrace fully. Her love of beauty, harmony and grace enables me to likewise fill my life and the lives of others with those same gifts.

Oshun came to me during a course of studying the African Traditional Religion of Yoruba, and she has also stuck with me, giving Aphrodite cultural face I can claim as my own. She is a bit wilder and more free than Aphrodite, and Oshun and I have the best rituals together! I consider Aphrodite and Oshun to be two different faces of the same Goddess.

Kwan Yin made herself known to me earlier last year, and it was such a blessing...I am a very compassionate person by nature, always being accussed of being *too nice* (what IS too nice?). I was trying to fight against this aspect of myself to no avail and just making myself very unhappy in the process. Kwan Yin made herself known to me through meditations, and helped me to understand my true coimpasisonate nature, to accept honor, nuture and celebrate it. She has brought me much peace.

Athena also makes her presence known to me at so many times in my life where I need strength emotionally and mentally, and She gifted me with my animal spirit guide, the owl

My patron deity is Apollo. His presence in my life has given me a very positive view of male energy and has been a constant source of creative inspiration and expression for me.

I'd say I feel closest to Persephone myself... maybe it's just the things I'm going through in my life right now...having to live at home with my family and only being able to see my love for short visits every month...

But I haven't really chosen a patron God or Goddess yet, per se...Sometimes I just call them God/Goddess, or even Sol/Luna (Sun and Moon)... I have this image in my head of the God and Goddess as the first great lovers, the first true soulmates, and I'm having trouble finding a couple of deities to fit that image... I feel close to Eros, but I don't even know if Psyche was a Goddess or just a nymph of some sort. December 30th, 2001, 07:25 PM
i have known for a long time who my god was. it was one of 2.. pan or hermes. i decided to stick with them both, but i dedicated myself to pan.

why pan? well.. his carefree spirit, his lusty attitude toward life. seize the moment by the hair, he says. but there is a serious side to pan that many overlook.. contemplative.. he's rather musical. he is harsh when he needs to be, and he is very much a fatherly figure in my eyes. fresh, yes, but fatherly sometimes.

why hermes? ever since i was little, my brother, sister, and i would choose a god and/or goddess to "have" so to speak. i chose hermes. no one else could have him. he was *mine*. lol and i keep him to this day. 8O

my goddess... i've never really felt close to the goddess aspect before. and then i read about the celtic deity. none of the greek really called to me. i dunno why, but none ever did. while reading about the celts, i came across Airmed, celtic goddess of herblore and herbcraft. she tended the herbs on her brother's grave, who in turn gave her the knowledge to heal and to hurt. when i found her.. i about died. she was exactly what i was looking for! the has the power to help, yet to punish. the power to love and to hate. she is my mother in some ways.. but in others, just a friend. she is my goddess.

no other goddess really ever called to me. just airmed, strangely.

At the moment, Freya and Odin. Thanks in part to Rick, who got me thinking about runes and Norse myth, and then I was doing tarot readings with Magestya and Freya came up and big cats kept coming up. So Freya. She represents ultimate feminine power tempered with love and wisdom. And I'm big on cats, very big. My fiance's a cougar, my friend is a panther, and I'm a lion (atm).

Then Odin comes with her, partially because he's a big Norse guy, and also because some people sense a connection between Od (Freya's husband) and Odin. It just "feels right".

Rhiannon came up recently too, tho I've never been into Welsh or Celtic deities. She's more of a messenger right now tho, not a lifetime matron, but maybe a matron for this time of my life.

Initially, I thought I had to pick a Goddess and God. I did a lot of reading and research and although I found several that I liked and could identify with, I didn't really feel a closeness with them. Through better understanding of myself, the elements I needed to work with, issues I needed to work on and people who I encountered on my path, I recently found that Freyja and Thor are currently my patrons. I feel a bond with them that is almost like a parent/child relationship. I expect this to change (or not) as my spiritual development progresses.

my matron is DURGA; the first time i really met her, she rode me and we've been together ever since. she's the only goddess i will ever call Mother.

my patron is Odhinn. ive been working with the runes for two years now and this Yule got a tat and corresponding initiation. . . since then he's taken over as my "divine father figure" or something, when i can keep up with him. and Frigga comes along with him (which is very nice)

i doubt they will change, honestly. . . DURGA is just my mom and ive been drawn to Odhinn since i can remember, but haven't been ready till now

i've never really gone with the idea of a 'patron' deity, but there are certainly some energies that i connect with more than others.
one would be Hekate, and i say this without reservation.
i've had very intense encounters with Her, and i can't say they were all nice. but they were all beautiful, and i've NEVER known a more intense learning experience.
and this year i've formed a very rematkable connection to Anubis.
now, these aren't the first Deities i would have chosen to be close to, but then 'Meatball' doesn't work that way!

mine is guadalupe. She works for me she was the first goddess to ever come through during meditation (which I confused with Mary  she didnt mind though, it is the spirit that matters not the name) and the one that really draws me. I didnt really know her until I started in with my own path but before that it was "Guadalupe, ya I would like to see that one day." Now its all "Guadalupe, oh ya I am almost out of her candles." I need roses though! I want to grow some 'wild' or minerature roses but I have to wait :wah: spring is so far away... They come in these really cool kits... I have learned a language for her (well two but the second was to better understand the first so it was for me...) and I have no problem conection with her as what she is to me (if not to millions of catholics round the world), I found the virgin births that she is credited with and none of them were the Jesus that the church wants every one to believe, rather four hundred and one boys and one girl (ouch!). The last kid is the equivalent of Jesus as he was prophezised to be, a warrior for his people some one who took the reigns of power by force and thrust his empire on the world (which is remakably simmilar to events in recent history...). The youngest of the 403 killed the other 402 and lived alone as the sole surviving son of the goddess, but he put his sisters head in the sky (but there are about three dozen myths as to the origin and god/dess of the moon...) the others are supposed to be the stars. In my pantheon she fits in as Great Woman or Goddess of 'man', eminition of Earth Mother amoungst other things, sister to the Bear(/s, divine duality) Squirl Cougar Elephant, and all other Great Spirits. Again she found me, I was looking for a nice quiet meditation and she came right in and made herself comfortable. My first incounter with her myth was also a supprise, I was surfing on Goddesses and found a Mary page looked in found that there were tons of marys! So I went to a name that looked fun and boom there she was the Goddess from my meditation. I then went out to the local occult book store and found a book that was never in stock and always hard to find so bought it right there (a rash move for a poor kid as fifteen bucks could be a weeks worth of food...) and it was all about Guadalupe. A good book not a 'how to' book but a good fun read if you like Guadalupe, or witchcraft cults in general. The Magic of Mexico by Mary Devine.

My patron god is the green man. One night when I was ten I looked out into the night with a pair of brand new binoculars and there he was. I have felt him always and have a funky thing with wild plants (potted not so much...) and I always loved to see that vines that would trip other people left me alone, or even caught me when I was about to fall... it was so fun to play with the green man, I looked for a name for him for ever and a day (sence I first saw him) and am just now finding some that feel close to right... from there it is only a small task to find or come to it. I love to do art with the green man image in it... I love art on the green man.

My matron goddess is Kybele, the Phrygian Great Mother Goddess who was later adopted by Rome. She is at once both loving mother and fierce protector and is often depicted with two lions by her side.

The other goddess I relate strongly to is Sekhmet, lion-headed Egyptian goddess of vengance.

You didn't mention your goddess' name. You said you can't find anything on her. Maybe one of us can help. There is very little written about my goddess also. I did find out that one person wrote a whole book on her, but it's out of print.

The goddess whom I feel close to is not really a major goddess, but instead a muse. I feel a deep connection to Clio, the muse of history. I give great respect to all the muses, since they nurse our creativity and inspire us to attempt our intellectual endeavors. Although Clio is my favorite muse, I must confess that I love all eight of her sisters. Perhaps I chose Mnemosyne as my name on this site, because she is the mother of the muses. She is associated with memory. Having a good memory is extremely important in my opinion, so I also feel deeply close to Clio's mother, Mnemosyne.
In my opinion, Clio chose me. She has allowed me to embark on a path of studying histories and has showed me the beauty in the arts. If it weren't for her, I would probably be doing something totally different with my life.

Okay, so I'm joining the thread a little bit late, but....

My patron Goddess is Artemis. I'm very much like her -- a hunter in nature, if not in reality. I prefer solitude, running through nature as opposed to large groups. I prefer animals to people. And, also like her, I can have a nurturing side. She's been known to help women in labor and children. Kids -- little kids -- are one of the few things that can soften me noticably.

One of the stranger influences in my life is my fiance's patron god -- Loki. The trickster, the god of luck, both good and bad. That god has a strange place in our lives, believe me.

*laughs* its funny. . . Odhinn and i were connecting very well, and then BOOM! gone. but i think he was more a preparation for Exu, who has a lot of Odhinn aspects but is MUCH more in line with who i am. he's an umbanda orixa. . . black and red. . . mm.

I am not sure if my Goddess chose me or just accepted me.
I was standing in my backyard just before the start of Winter Break. Standing by the fence and underneath the lightpost, I had been thinking of which patheon to follow for awhile, but could not make up my mind. I turned to look to the North, and there in the cloudless blue sky, was a very dark object coming toward me. To my utter surprise, a large Raven landed on top of the lightpost. Not sure of what to do, I simply said,"Hecate, what do you want me to know?" "Hecate, please protect all those who dwell in this house." At which time the raven flew over to land on the roof of my house. I stood there for awhile, then went back inside. I had to go back to school to do some testing in the research project I am involved with. That night when I went to bed, I said a simple prayer to Hecate. I explained that I was not very good at flowery prose, and all I could offer her was the love I have in my heart, but if that was enough for her, she would be my Goddess.
The next morning as I was sitting in what is supposed to be my sun room, I looked out of the door, and coming out of the cemetary just above the fence surrounding my back yard, came a big, black dog. The dog stopped at the top of the embankment, looked directly at me, walked down to the road that runs in frpnt of my house, turned around and went back into the cemetary.
I hoped this was Hecate's way of saying she heard my prayer and everything was okay.
So, either way, whether she chose me or just accepted me, she is my Goddess.

Just curious why you saw a raven and immediately spoke to Hekate... why not Morrigan, Cathubodva, etc. ?

I really do not know. She, or rather her name, just came out of my mouth. Until that moment, I was leaning toward either Aradia or Diana, without any real comittment to any in particular.

Who's my patron God/dess??

Boy, I wish I knew!! :p

I'm still trying to figure it out. I know he's a male...just dunno who he is at the moment...

He came to me in a dream once during one of my "hard times" and pretty much just let me know that everything was ok, and that everything would be allright...still I dunno who he is. At the moment he's just "God". I didn't really see what he looked like other than that he was wearing earthy colors and such...

Still dunno though :p

I've always felt that my patron god was Mercury (maybe it's because I'm a virgo).

I've also felt drawn to Isis, ever since I was a little girl. More recently, I've been drawn to Anubis, Athena and Dionysis too.

I have strong connections to Odin.......

Also known as Odhinn, Woden, Wodan, and Woutan. He is the supreme god and oldest of all in Norse mythology, god of wisdom, poetry, magic, runes, occult, and war.

Mostly honor him as I am a writer and a poet so I guess that is why I feel close to him and thankful for those gifts...

Holda- The Provider

She cares for children who have died, and, with Odin, leads the Wild Hunt during the Yule season. She is considered a patron of Witches, and is described as kind with a helpful disposition, except when she notices disorder in the household affairs. She helps to make sure spinners finish their spinning before the end of Yule. She also gave flax to mankind, allowing them to weave, and she taught them how to hunt.

and ...

Norns, The- Wyrd Sisters
Divine beings who shape the fate of each person and god, though they do not create it. They weave the web of Wyrd, and are sometimes known as the "Wyrd Sisters". The goddesses of these destinies are the three sisters called Urd (the eldest), the goddess of the past (fate), Verdandi (the middle sister), the goddess of the present (necessity) and Skuld (the youngest), the goddess of the future (being).

and .....

Sif- The Ever Golden
Sif is the golden-haired wife of Thor, by whom she bore Thrud, and the goddess of crops and fertility.

LOL

I Love Odin more for the creative side rather than the war side ...

Holda ~ The Provider ~ Well that is a part of me that is not something I like but have come to accept ~ She was the one who cared for the children that died ~ Both my choldren died ~ So I feel very close in that respect ....

now you ask why then Sif- The Ever Golden Sif is the golden-haired wife of Thor, by whom she bore Thrud, and the goddess of crops and fertility .....

Well I have long flaxen flwing gold and there is a saying for those that can't do, help others or somethign along that line ~ Since I have been given the fate of Guenivere ( barren womb ) then I feel at peace at least doing all I can to help others in that area ...

why then you ask the Norns, The- Wyrd Sisters ~ Well I am very close to the #3 ~ I was born in march ( 13 day ) on the 3rd day of the week ( wednesday ) ~ very conected to the maiden / mother / crone aspect / rule of 3 / 3 stages of life ( birth / living / death ) ~ so naturally I feel close here too

I'm fairly new to the Norse aspects. I began my journey into this specific path about 15 months ago. For the first year, I was unable to find a god/goddess that I could identify with. I called on specific deities for specific needs, but never felt a kinship with any of them. In September, I was invited to participate in a Norse ritual. We have a woman in our community who is from Sweden and was raised in this tradition, such a blessing to have her. We learned a chant in old Norse and drummed in Circle. A friend made a hammer for me, and I can not tell you the power that I felt when I picked it up to seal the circle. In the month or so previous to this, Freyja was courting me. Last summer, Uruz appeared to me in a vision and I continue to receive runes. I recognized and welcomed her during the ritual, the experience was so powerful, an initiation of sorts.

I still have a lot to learn, especially about Odin. I recently began a rune class led by someone who is seriously into Asatru and very knoweldgeable. He has provided a lot of information and painted a far more positive picture of Odin. Of course, Thor was easy to love right from the beginning. I'm studying the lore and there is little info on Freyja. I am attracted to both her mother and warrior aspects, and I feel that since she is connected with Frey, she also has a male aspect. I had to be both mother and father to my sons, and I am still single 14 years after my divorce, so these energies appeal to me.

I don't know exactly who my patron god/dess is, but I think Aphrodite might be. Whenever I think of a goddess, or begin a spell, her name is always the first one that comes to mind.
