View Full Version : Concerning Aura's and Empaths...

After reading one of the posts in Pagan Warrior's 'Feeling Energy' thread, it was metioned that 'Empaths' can feel other people's (and likely other animals) higher emotions. This is something I can do, and I never thought of it as a big deal or anything. In fact, I still wonder if everyone can do this, at least to a certain extent anyways. What I'm curious about, is that for those of us who don't seem to have any psychic ability in other areas such as pre-cognition (which a lot of these P.S.I tests place a 'big' focus upon), are we still considered psychic with these alternate 'talents'?
Sensing auras are a natural thing for me, which I've gotten used to, and often use to my advantage (such as my kitten, where I move out of the way just before he jumps onto me with his un-trimmed claws!) It's also good at recognizing 'bad' people, and taking extra precautions in those situations. And one of the nicest things is when I see a random couple walking along the street (which looks just like all the others), but knowing 100% that they're in true love!!! :hearthear

I never really thought that much about it, but I have always "read" people. It really throws me off balance when I'm around someone I can't "read". I try to avoid crowds because I get really edgy and distracted--I suspect it's a sort of overload reaction. I tend to think that most people are empathic to some extent. Most people are able to pick up on what's going on emotionally with the people they are in close contact with, especially where strong emotions are involved. I don't exactly "see" auras, but I do sense them.

My experiences are simmilar. I hate being in crowds for the same reason. Emotional overload. I get aggitated and get angry easily. I used to love the mall, now I can't spend more than 3 hours in there without becomming pissed off at the world. I can read some people, and I can get a gist of what others are about. Like I can pretty much tell when people are braging and lying about things that they say they've done. Also, I can tell when people " add on " extra juicy details to their stories to make it more interesting. I don't know if this is empathy, or if it comes from experience in just knowing how people act. Anyone else have simmilar experiences?

Check out the Empathic Bunker in the Just Talk Portal, and please, if you haven't already, take the empathy questionaire. :)

i have similar experiences that are mentioned here. i often seem to feel if someone is exagerating on a story or in what the're feeling or thinking. i dont see auras, but i seem to feel them.

I am not an empath and quite frankly I despise anyone who thinks that they know what I'm feeling...phooey on empaths!
Not only do I say phooey but I also stand firm in the idea that someone who has strong empathic tendencies should examine themselves for any warning signs of psychic vampirism.

Hmmm, I'm glad I read this. I can definitely read people, although I'm not sure if auras have anything to do w/what I do. I have been this way since I can remember, and I nail people right on the head. I wondered why I always get so crabby when in a crowd, but it could be that too much info is coming at me at once. Interesting. :boquet:

I think everyone has the ability to sense people's energies.. Some more than others.. maybe due to open mindedness :whatgives

I think the idea of "auras" is really very simply explained. All people create an electro-magnetic field around themselves. This fluctuates with health, emotion etc etc.
Some people, have particularly sensitive temporal lobes, which pick up fluctuation in electro-magnetic fields.
a+b = empath.
of course i in now way deny that there is also alot more to it than that, you also have to be able to interpret what your brain is telling you, who it is coming from and so on and so forth. Being an empath is a very useful skill to have, you can really help people.
