THE OYSTER

The Brothers of A.'.A.'. are one with the Mother of
the Child.(4)
The Many is as adorable to the One as the One is to
the Many. This is the Love of These; creation-
parturition is the Bliss of the One; coition-
dissolution is the Bliss of the Many.
The All, thus interwoven of These, is Bliss.
Naught is beyond Bliss.
The Man delights in uniting with the Woman; the
Woman in parting from the Child.
The Brothers of A.'.A.'. are Women: the Aspirants
to A.'.A.'. are Men.

I can't seem to divine any great meaning from this chapter. I've been trying and trying, coming back over and over again. (Which is why my post has taken so long to get here, not that I lost interest.) Maybe it's that I got too much sleep and my mind only works when it's sleep deprived? **ROFL** I don't think so though...

So anyway, all I can give is a half-arsed interpretation which would be basically that he's ranting on about some Dianic (or near Dianic, or similar beliefed) coven. Sex is good. Women are cool. Women get the divine. Women can be like the divine. Men are lacking. Men at best can only hope to to be like women. Men get their kicks from rutting with women. Women get their kicks from contributing to the world. Something like that anyway.

I don't know if I'd agree with that, but that's about all I can get out of it. **shrug** The worst part is I'm not even sure if I feel like I missed any of it or if he really just was that shallow...

Well, I don't get a whole lot out of this either. I do get the sense that he is referring to women as some what mystical. Perhaps that man is enamerated by the female form in the physical realm, yet also on the whole, "mother, nurturer of us all" plane. Because giving birth is a Magikal experience in which only women can directly participate, men have to watch in awe. The line about men delighting in the uniting with women and the women in parting from the child says to me that men feel closer to God or the divine by witnessing this awesome process.

Sorry to keep bringing up the tarot but it is what I see. This reminds me of The Lovers card. On the picture the two lover's stand naked before an angel. While the woman looks lovingly at the angel, the man looks to the woman. Perhaps he sees the manifestations of the angel most clearly through the woman.

Also Oyster could be symbolic of a woman's vagina, which is where new life springs forth through the magik of childbirth. While this chapter is filled with sexual content, I don't think it is shallow....just giving a hint to the wonder that men see in women, not only on a physical level but also spiritual????

Well, I say shallow because not all men and not all women are like that. To generalize both genders so grossly seems pretty shallow to me. **shrug** I should specify. Perhaps not him in general, but at least this chapter of the book seems shallow to me.

hm.
well
here goes.
the only way i can make any sense of this chapter is reading the male and the female as refering to the traditional qualities attributed to male and female energies. The female is receptive, which in turn leads to the male creation(the child)
is he saying that in order to practice magick properly one must be extremely receptive to energies?
don't know.
as for the first bit there, it seems to be a reference to the interconnections between the whole and its parts, knowledge of these lead to bliss, and can only be found once the aspirant drops thier desire and is capable of accepting the world as is.

hows that for a shallow reading?

this book has always confused the hell out of me, and to be honest, I think the commentaries made it worse...
thanx for doing this mol, this is cool

Hmm, yeah. This chapter does kind of leave one ... wanting for more? Heh heh. I know I can't wait to get home to my wife. :o

And hey, and where's your interpretation Mol?

And if it heavily involves the number 69, we'll all know your mind is on the oyster! ;)
