I've always wanted to have my chart read by a human being as opposed to a computerized one..I don't know how to go about finding an astrologer..can any one recommend one? I don't mind paying..just not a huge amount.
Thanks.

Have you checked your local area? You might try some of the local occult shops they may have one or know one.

I usually reckon the best bet is to go along to an astrology group in your area. You don't have to be an expert astrologer to go to a group, beginners are always welcome, the entrance fee is usually very low and makes for a good evening out - and you get to meet lots of astrologers! You'll soon find who you click with and who you don't - and that's often as important as anything else in working out which astrologer is best for you.

You also want to consider what kind of reading you want - a face to face consultation, a written report, a tape-recorded analysis sent to you? There are lots of computer programs out there that churn out reports - so beware astrologers who offer huge printed reports; as you've suggested, you *do* need a human being to integrate everything for you. With the Internet, the astrologer you choose doesn't necessarily have to be local to you.

Occult shops could be a good source - but are they able to tell a good astrologer from a bad one? Astrology is a sort of "lingua franca" of the New Age - everyone interested in anything esoteric will express an *interest* in astrology, but that's very different from actually being an astrologer!

You can't beat a direct recommendation - it doesn't matter what qualifications an astrologer has (most of them may be very valid, but it's difficult to know which qualifications are from a good astrology school, and which aren't), if someone you respect recommends an astrologer, then that's worth its weight in gold!

Also, consider what you're looking for out of a reading, as there are many different types of astrologer. Do you want a psychological profile, a counselling session, the desire to address particular issues such as relationships or childhood issues, predictions, is it just out of curiosity? All of these are very valid, but different astrologers would look at different aspects of what you're looking for.

A good astrologer will always be happy to spend a few minutes on the phone or by e-mail discussing this with you, and be open about whether they are the right astrologer for your needs.

I agree with Fluffmeister... those computerized reading only give out what are called "cookbook" definitions for all the placements in your chart. Hmmm, much like my own class is doing right now! :rollingla And having someone who knows how to put it all together is a very useful thing indeed, since you will find that certain aspects of your chart will seem contradictory at times.

As far as recommendations, I don't know of any astrologers personally that I could recommend, other than Fluff and RedRose right here on MW. :D The Mountain Astrologer magazine has a directory of astrologers with different specialties that you could explore. But don't just look in the back of /any/ magazine; some of those ads can be about as reputable as Miss Cleo.

Exactly. And in this day of email, there's no reason you couldn't type up a short little note detailing what you hope to gain from the chart reading and asking if that is the type of astrology they focus in. :)

As for myself, I was doing readings for awhile but then I started doing a class. But if you have questions about a certain area of your life that's puzzling you (as opposed to having your entire chart done) I could probably find the time to take a look. :)

RedRose has agreed to do it..I really appreciate the offer Kadynas, but I would like my whole chart done..I am taking your class as a matter of fact..I've learned a lot, but having my chart read Is something I have always wanted to do. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Good for you! I'm sure you'll find her to be very thorough and helpful. Everyone should have their whole chart done at least once: it's a great experience. :)

Wot Kadynas said! :D

RedRose has some brilliant insights and you'll get a good reading. And everyone should indeed have their whole chart done - even experienced astrologers should get another astrologer to read their chart from time to time, too!

i go to him once a year. he is quite nontrad in that he is a bit more spiritual/esoteric in his interpretation, which is what i am drawn to. he does distance readings, but im not sure of his method in doing them.

be well!
