What kind of mystical pet would YOU chose?

I would have loved a unicorn when I was little.
Now I think a dragon named Spike with a studded collar would be nice. He could roam the yard with the kids- pfft, who'd kidnap them with a great red, Smaug-like dragon Nanny there?

Unicorns are my beloved little token mythical creatures. I collect unicorn stuff- or I used to, and I would like to continue. In school, my lockers are always decorated with Unicorn stuff.

Dragons!I love unicorns but I would LOVE a dragon. Whats not to love? There big, there gorgeous., there intelligent and wise, and they'll keep the school bullies, muggists and rapists running farfar far away. Seriously though, most of those critters just wouldn't fit into my townhouse. Then of course I'd have to think about feeding them. .....I do have a few neighbors that I could let a pet dragon have, and of course there's my mom in law. But the fire department would have fits, I'm sure.

Hyppogryphs and Griffins would still be pretty big. Do they molt? Ug, feathers all over. And aren't the hyppogryphs half horse? Horse poop! NO THANKS!

And what about the phoenix. I've never run into any size specifications, but they couldn't be too large, right? I could keep it in a cage outside over my charcoal grill. ..........Even so, having a bird sponaneously combust every so often would probably scar my children for life, which I'd have to make up for by allowing them to roast marshmallows over his carcass until it was re-born.

Unicorns....there's that proplem with horse poop again.

Manticore......A brief description....
"Physically, the manticore was know as having the body of a red lion, the face and ears of a blue eyed human and a tail ending in a sting like that of a scorpion. Honestly, you'd have to have a fetish for impending and painful death, eased into by answering ancient riddles, in order to have a Manticore as a pet. I also know that if I ever procured one of these freakishly terrifying creatures, someone would call CPS on me!

My conclusion is that mythical creatures do not make good pets. If I ever come across one, I will call my nearest animal rescue agency and turn it it, or alternately, run like heck in the opposite direction.

Oh, DEFINITELY a dragon--loved them most of all since I can remember. My favorite book as a child was called Dragolin by Stephen Crosgrove. (He also wrote the Leo the Lop series.) It was the story of a baby dragon who could not make fire. And a dragon was not considered a dragon until he could light the ceremonial flame. It was a really cute story, and seeing that baby dragon contorting his face just to try to burn a pathetic little bug was hilarious beyond words. Besides, dragon is my most powerful totem.
