I saw the topic what jobs do you admire and as I posted there it's not the jobs that I admire it's the people. So many people put themselves first, but there are others who put their friends, students or strangers first. Here's an example of what I mean, all true, all on the news at some time or other.
Two brothers were walking about 8 and 6. There was really strong wind and a tree fell. One of the boys pushed the other out of the way, saving his life, but dying in the process.
A fireman stayed with a young girl who was trapped in a burning car with a gas leak. He was told to move away, but stayed by her side, promising her that when she got out of it she could ride his horse, because she had always wanted to ride. He saved her life and her spirit by helping her through that, and at the risk of his own life, he had a family.
There are just so many to name, so do you're hero's an honour. Post how they helped you or someone you loved. Whether it was at risk of their lives or something else.
My hero was my best friend. When my highschool discovered I was pagan most wanted to kill me, and so my so called friends put a space between me and them. All but my best friend Tom Peck. He stayed by my side and helped me face going to school. Even after a group grabbed me on my way home and tried to kill me, he stayed right there, right at my side. Oh I loved him so much, he had so much faith in me, that I'ld get through this, and no matter what I'ld never let the kids get him even if they were after me. It's thanks to him I'm still alive. He helped me through depression, suicidal thoughts, no friends, people trying to kill me. I admire him, and his friendship.
Now you're turn.

You know, I was just thinking the other day that there are so few people that I admire, or that I can think of, at least... I feel bad. Everybody should have role models, right?
Let's see... I admire my younger sister, because she's so funny, and so willing to be herself no matter what anyone else thinks.
I admire Chris, the guy I like, extremely, because he' s intelligent, and worldly, and he knows what's going on in the world, and the where's and why's, and he's so much of what I want to be.
I admire Kupo-chan, a close friend, because she's so strong, and funny, and she's always there for me.
But I don't admire anyone for their bravery, or how they changed the world... :( I can't think of anyone who's really touched me with anything like that.

not admiring anyone for changing you're world may actually be a good thing. At least nothing seriously dangerous has happened to you.

Eh, people have changed my world... but not in a good way. Certainly don't admire them for it.
Edited to add: Er, I think I misunderstood your statement, and just got it know. I think. :ahhhh:

yeah I think you did too. What I meant was perhaps it's a good thing nobodies saved your life or other such drastic things. Well at least it would be if you've never needed someone to do it. That's kinda what I mean. Make any more sense?

I admire people like Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Aung San Suukyi, Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa... there are more I know.
They all fought/fight for freedom and justice, without bringing in the bombs and military. They have/had heart... unlike other so called "great men" of our time.

Yeah, and that's what I figured after I'd realized I'd misunderstood it. ;)

Yeah they're great people...at least the few I actually know what they did are. I just think it's a shame only famous people like them get mentioned. I mean while they made our world what it is, I never met any of them, I never knew then and in my still childish way of thinking they never made a difference in my life. So while I look at them with respect, I can't seem to admire those who have made my life able to be, whereas I do admire the little people like I mentioned Tom, Or a teacher who risked her job to help me settle into a new school.
Glad you understood it how I meant it. :smooch:

In my case I admire both famous and infamous persons. The funny thing is though that when the time comes to say who I admire I forget them all,he he:
-First of all my mother!I am so proud that after my dad's death she proved everybody that she could make it and now we have an excellent way of life!Congrats mom!
-My father!
-King Arthur,High King of Britain and a great personality.I really admire this man for who he was,his personality, everything about him.
-Great Alexander-I'm so proud he was Greek!!!He was someone really exceptional. His way of thinking and acting, his strategy and intelligence along with his bravery make him really important for me and all Greeks.
-Hector-prince of Troy.I also admire him for defending his country and his family as well as he could against a greedy army and a semi-god.
-Keira Knightly-I just admire her for many reasons! She was dyslexic in a young age and she fought it.She became famous and left behind all the persons that were moquing her.The girl rocks and she is a great actor!
I can't rememver anyone else right now.......

I admire anyone who gives of themselves without much thought of what they get out of it..peace corps volunteers for example. there are so many selfless people out there doing good things- and we'll never know their names. Despite my views on the current war, I admire those who go and fight for our country.

It's changed a bit for me over the past few months.. I admire several people and hold them in high esteem...
ND, first and foremost, my sis. She has an amazing spirit and fire about her, once you know her for who she is, you can't help but love her. In the few months that I've come to know her, she has grown so much as a person and I not only admire her, but am very proud of her.
My aunt - who despite being a single mom of 3 girls, has managed to overcome the obstacles of losing her job, keeping her children fed and clothed, and taking care of my grandmother, all without complaint. She's undeniably the one force in my life that has always been there, has always supported me in whatever choices I make. Kudos to her.
and two other guys I admire very much, both artists in their own rights and absolutely brilliant. Ya know who ya are :D

so many people...the list can go on for a long time.
one thing they all have in common, if doing what they feel is right regardless of how many 'friends' they are losing over it, and how many people are critisizing their actions.

I admire those people too. I don't really have anyone in my life that have saved...but I've never needed saving.

Actually...I take that back. My dad saved my life when I was a baby and he decided to actually BE my father and take full parental responsibility of me. (though sometimes I think I saved his life too).
